Rams receiver Odell Beckham‘s much-hyped signing arrival did not live up to the hype in his first game on Monday night.

Beckham managed just two catches for 18 yards as the Rams played their worst game of the season in a 31-10 loss to the 49ers.

“They played better than us in all phases of the game,” Beckham said afterward. “They just out-played us. . . . It just wasn’t our night. There’s no way around it, it just wasn’t our night. All three phases of the game.”

Beckham said he knows he has a lot of work to do with the Rams now on their bye week, and the next game against the Packers.

“Lick your wounds and get ready for one of the best teams in the NFL, Green Bay at Lambeau,” Beckham said.

The Rams will hope Beckham can produce a lot more than two catches for 18 yards in that game.

  1. When will GMs learn that forcing a dream team together never works…washed up has beens are team & coach killers.

  2. Ha, it ain’t gonna be your year, either, selfish tool. Most sports fans love nothing more than when these “superteams” implode and end up with nothing. It will be super fun to watch.

  3. OBJ definitely hampered their offense, he slowed them down because he didn’t know all the plays. This isn’t necessarily his fault, but Mcvay shouldn’t of played him last night. This is where there is pressure to put someone in. This move will be part of what brings the Rams down.

you would think, if you’re joining a new team, and your rep is that you freelance too much, that you’d run full speed in your first game instead of quitting with your purple hair? This led to the 1st INT, I bet Stafford is thrilled about the new awkwardness of the team dynamic now. This will ruin their complete offensive chemistry!

  4. lol, who cares what OBJ thinks, the dude has been on the team for all of five seconds. Why are they not interviewing cupp to find out what he thinks of his new team mate that gives up running routes.

  5. This is NOT how you build a team – adding misceants and cancers from other teams. The Lambs are going to implode. This is not a team – it just has clowns dressed similarly but they have no heart, no guts, and no passion. Lots of big egos that don’t play well with each other. I hope they fail.

  6. Imagine going all in on winning this year, wrecking your next few drafts, and then ending up with this level of play.
It’s not that they don’t have a chance, but none of their competitors in the NFC have hamstrung themselves as badly as the Rams have for next season and beyond, all to be not even measuring up to the other contenders in the conference.

Every fan in every NFL city wishes their team sold out the way the Rams did.

Maybe it won’t work, but if you’re going to go down, go down in flames.

  8. Compare BBs teambuilds to Snead and McVay’s approach.

One is strategic, patient and smart. The other is arrogant, fast and dumb.

One gets bashed, the other lauded.

    What a country.

Bill spent how much on free agents this year?

One is strategic, patient and smart. The other is arrogant, fast and dumb.

.. oh, nevermind. That doesn’t fit your narrative, does it?!

  10. Apparently all the guys who wouldn’t be able to flip a burger correctly on their first day at McDonald’s have logged in to talk about OBJ’s first game back

  11. Nothing about OBJ looks special accept his hair. Why he multiple NFL suitors is beyond me. It’s a shame when us armchair guys can see he is a below average receiver and NFL execs and fan boys cannot. Let the past go…

  12. I think that with Beckham’s reputation, he can only upset the chemistry in that locker room, which translates onto the playing field. Acquiring a spoiled diva was a very bad idea, as the Rams will probably find out.

  13. After all the build up all week about him and the Rams big weapons add in general this was quite an anticlimax.

  14. Now the Rams know how the Packers felt after getting blown out against the Saints first game of season.its very tough when you know you have the better team but dont play like it.

  15. Wait till the rams fans (not that they have any) see obj over the middle with his little t-rex arms. Guy is meant for flag football. Best pregame WR ever.

  16. Big Rams fan here. Mcvay gets out coached by a better coach again. He always does. His in game adjustments are terrible. He’s an OC in way over his head

  17. They should not have gotten Beckham. He’s a cancer. Stafford seems to still think he’s on the Lions. Can’t handle winning. Super teams never work in football.

If the Rams don’t adjust and fix A LOT of things during their bye week, their game with Green Bay will not be pretty. A warm weather team coming off of a blow out at freezing cold Lambeau? I don’t like the Ram’s chances at the moment. Green Bay has a great defense and has figured some things out. They’re dangerous.

  19. I’m a Browns fan, and I’m glad to see OBJ go, and I don’t know why we traded for him in the first place when he made it plain he didn’t want to be there from the start. Plus the way he screwed the Browns out the door – just a bad look and an unnecessary way to end his stay in Cleveland.

I don’t root against anyone, but I’d hate to see OBJ rewarded for the way he conducts himself.

  20. Why did McVay even put OBJ in the game? It made no sense and it led directly to the first rams turnover. It must have been really tense in the Rams locker room after the game.

  21. When OBJ broke off that route in the first quarter, I thought to myself- “welcome Rams fans everywhere to the OBJ experience”.

  22. When has it ever been his night? He’s never won anything. Anything!

Each of his three years at LSU, he disappeared in their bowl games, with almost no production. They lost their first two, and they won the third but OBJ had zero catches in it.

In the NFL, his contribution to a team that had won the Super Bowl twice in the preceding 5 years was to once again fail to show up when it counts, managing only one playoff appearance, a loss, where he contributed only 28 yards of receiving.

The Browns had more success when he wasn’t on the field, and now he’s started sabotaging the Rams’ success right from the first drive.

What is anyone hoping for at this point? He’s never won anything or elevated any team.

  23. Don’t judge him on the 2 catches for 18 yards. He’ll eventually work his way up to his peak of 4 catches for 38 yards.

  24. OBJ’s first practice was Saturday I don’t get the criticism. He did as expected on such a short week of preparation for a team he doesn’t know the playbook. Limited snaps and limited production.

  25. When one of the reasons the deal was taking so long was which jersey number the guy is going to wear…expect to have problems. That is a minor detail in the scheme of things.
