Mike Zimmer says Dalvin Cook is day-to-day, didn’t tear his labrum

A report on Monday said that Vikings running back Dalvin Cook was diagnosed with a torn labrum and a dislocated shoulder after getting hurt in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers, but Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said that was inaccurate later in the day.

Zimmer said “no” when asked if Cook tore his labrum during his press conference and that he was “not going to say” whether Cook dislocated it. Zimmer was also asked if Cook has a chance of playing against the Lions this week.

“I don’t know. It’s day-to-day. That’s what they’re telling me,” Zimmer said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

That’s a more promising outlook than the multiple week absence that was part of the report about the nature of the injury, but Zimmer’s initial comments about injuries and reality haven’t always lined up in the past. He repeatedly called a neck injury defensive end Danielle Hunter suffered in training camp last year a tweak and Hunter wound up missing the entire season.

The Vikings will be hoping for a better outcome for Cook after their playoff hopes took a blow on Sunday.

  1. Could you imagine if Cousins is still the QB and Zimmer still the HC in Minnesota next year?

Death, Taxes, and the Vikings being average.

  2. Cook is day-to-day when he is “healthy” so technically correct, Zim, you sly devil, you below average coach you.

  3. If Dalvin Cook doesn’t play, the officials might have to make five horrible calls in favor of the Vikings instead the usual four.

  4. Zimmer thinks he is being slick making Detroit wonder if Dalvin will play or not.

The Lions and everyone else knows that Dalvin is hurt and will not play Sunday. Nice try though Zimmy.

  5. This might be a reoccuring injury … I think Cook injured both shoulders during his college career – or at least had two labrum injuries.

  6. He’ll be fine until his next turnover and then he will have another injury all of a sudden.

  7. I believe Cook has been hurt all along with the ankle and is toughing it out. He doesn’t seem to have the same burst and aggressive style of play. This shoulder injury futher compounds the problem. He’s banged up and is banged up on a regular basis.

  8. Has any player in the history of sports been carted off and then been day-to-day. That’s pretty weak.

    Paul Pierce of the Celtics?

  10. I hope he is out for this game or the whole year. I don’t see what is so great about a back that gets stuffed up the middle for 3 yards 90% of his runs?? I hope Mattison plays..hes been over 100 yards every game hes started this year and is a much tougher back. They need to dump Cook in the off season, he’s just average and always hurt!

  11. Everyone is reporting a multiweek injury. The only person Zimmer is outsmarting is himself and ownership. How this coach remains employed is beyond me.

He was leading the NFC in rushing before the weekend, but you don’t see “what is so great” about him?

  14. I mean Dalvin was a willing understudy at Xavier Rhodes’ school of faking injury, but this one was more of an immediate reaction. 3 weeks off would be smart.

  15. I hope he recovers and can play soon. I’m a Packers fan but I hate to see injuries and the games are better when the stars are playing.

  16. I’m trying to figure out if Zimmer is calling the team doctors dumb or Cook a big baby?

  17. It’s very unfortunate that he got injured.
Whether it’s day to day or long term, I just hope he spends his downtime more wisely than he has in the past.

Please, no more supplying unbalanced teammates with firearms.
That was an extremely scary situation last week and it was easily avoidable had Everson had the right kind of support around him.

And, by all means, check your questionable anger issues with the young ladies in your life.
You have an obvious checkered past in this area and it needs to be addressed.
