Saints quarterback Taysom Hill remained in Thursday night’s loss to the Cowboys after injuring the middle finger on his right hand, but he’s reportedly not a sure thing to be back in the lineup in the weeks to come.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Hill is believed to have a torn tendon in the finger. More tests are being done on the injury and he may need to have surgery to correct the issue.

The injury, which is known as mallet finger, is one of the injuries that caused Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to miss time earlier this season.

There’s no word on when the Saints will have a better idea about Hill’s outlook and when he might be able to return if he is injured, but it seems like a good bet that Trevor Siemian is going to be seeing some more time at quarterback in New Orleans.

  1. Watching this guy last night taught me several things:
    1. He’s not the greatest passer.
    2. He’s fast as lightning!
    3. He is wrought iron tough.

    I’m a fan.

  2. Thank God. Now the apologists have something to blame other than the fact that Taysom Hill is simply NOT an NFL quarterback.

  3. Great to see my Boys come away with the win. But damn Taysome, yes I am going to say it, he sure reminded me a lot of Kaepernick. Arm only questionable when misses are so bad and then when he’s on it like “ok kid” but the running just demoralizes the defense and he did that to us several times. But just a real observation, no cap.

He’s not at all, but he’s a damn good football player. I think he’d be dangerous as a slot receiver.

  5. He’s the Anti-Aaron Rodgers. Seems like a good guy, but can’t play QB worth a spit.

How are people disagreeing with this statement???

  7. Even with the injury he can still probably do all of his other roles for the rest of the season, just not QB (and maybe not catching the ball either). Then he can get surgery after the season.

  8. We’re applauding this novelty act for being tough? $21.5 million guaranteed should be more than enough to tough it out. Sean Payton stood by and did nothing while Hill embarrassed himself. I don’t know what the heck is going on over there in New Orleans, but it sure isn’t working.

  9. Pretty courageous to go out there with a defective finger… Throwing passes to the other team shouldn’t exclude him from receiving a participation trophy.

  10. The NFL is 2021 is a game of attrition — rosters reduced to rubble by injuries. That is NO WAY to play this game.

  11. You have to give Taysom Hill some credit here. Yes, he threw 4 picks, but it takes some real toughness to play through what has to be an extremely painful injury. He may not be a quarterback, but he is a great athlete.

  12. I don’t understand why people are so hard on Hill.

His arm isn’t great, but it’s adequate.

He played hurt on Thursday with both starting tackles and Kamara out. They went 3-1 with him as a starter when Brees was out last year. He might not be Tom Brady, but I think he can play.

  13. “It’s really too bad that I injured my finger. I really think I could have slipped in a fifth and maybe even a sixth interception if I could have kept it healthy. That’s on me.” – Taysom Hill

  14. Hill had some really nice passes last night. There was a play where it looked like he didn’t get hit but he was shaking his hand. Maybe he whacked it on someones helmet.

  15. Hill is not the answer for the Saints at QB. He’s a gifted athlete, but he’s a better RB/FB/slot receiver than he is a QB.

  16. Hill is a tough kid. You can’t even grip a football with an injury like his. I don’t know why they didn’t put in Siemian, unless he was injured, too. I guess you can grip the ball, but making an accurate throw is pretty much impossible.

How Loomis is still employed is anyone’s guess.

Hmmm….try 7 division titles, 9 playoff appearances, a Lombardi, hiring a coach with no previous HC experience that now has the second longest current tenure with one team, with a +.600 winning percentage, and sellouts every year. But keep guessing…
