PFT’s Week 14 2021 power rankings

1. Cardinals (10-2, last week No. 1): It doesn’t matter that they went 2-1 without him; if the Cardinals get the No. 1 seed in the NFC , Kyler Murray is the MVP.

2. Patriots (9-4, No. 2):  Whatever it takes. Wherever it happens. Whoever is available. Whichever way the wind is blowing.

3. Packers (9-3, No. 3): The NFC North is in the bag. The real question is whether they’ll be the No. 1 seed.

4. Buccaneers (9-3, No. 4): The Bucs will cut Antonio Brown only if Tom Brady lets them. In other words, they won’t be cutting him.

5. Chiefs (8-4, No. 6): The defense will carry them to the playoffs. The offense will have to carry them to a championship, if it can.

6. Rams (8-4, No. 7): Beating the Jaguars doesn’t mean anything. If the Rams want to change minds, they need to beat the Cardinals on Monday night.

7. Cowboys (8-4, No. 8): The division title that was in the bag is back out of the bag, thanks to Washington climbing off the mat.

8. Ravens (8-4, No. 5): It feels like they’re limping toward the finish line. If they get to the playoffs, what will they have left?

9. Titans (8-4, No. 10): Their bye came at a perfect time. They now need to get back to winning.

10. Colts (7-6, No. 12): They maybe should have saved a few of those points for future games.

11. Bills (7-5, No. 9): They waited too long to throw caution, and footballs, to the wind.

12. Chargers (7-5, No. 17): This rollercoaster likely has a few more ups and downs left.

13. Bengals (7-5, No. 11): This rollercoaster likely has a few more ups and downs left.

14. 49ers (6-6, No. 13): The Seahawks are 2-0 against the 49ers and 2-8 against the rest of the league. Those two losses to Seattle could keep San Francisco home after Week 18.

15. Steelers (6-5-1, No. 18): Without T.J. Watt, they might be winless.

16. Washington (6-6, No. 20): The David vs. Goliath vibe they’ve created seems a little weird when they’re not playing Goliath.

17. Dolphins (6-7, No. 23): TuAnon > DeshaunAnon.

18. Raiders (6-6, No. 14): Well, Mark Davis should be able to start looking for a new coach soon.

19. Browns (6-6, No. 19): Coach Kevin Stefanki is considering using both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt at the same time. Some Browns fans approve of the approach, especially if one of them will be playing quarterback.

20. Eagles (6-7, No. 25): Jalen Hurts will be the starter when healthy. And he’ll be “healthy” when Minshew Mania 2.0 subsides.

21. Broncos (6-6, No. 16): Owner, coach, quarterback and more. It may be easier to list the key positions that won’t change hands after the season.

22. Vikings (5-7, No. 15): Purple Purgatory quickly is becoming Lavender Hell.

23. Falcons (5-7, No. 21): In this nuttiest of years, they’re still alive. It’s hard to imagine that lasting for long.

24. Saints (5-7, No. 22): Too many injuries. Too little time.

25. Panthers (5-7, No. 24): There’s surely an interesting store behind the firing of Joe Brady. Hopefully, we’ll hear it before the next major change is made.

26. Seahawks (4-8, No. 29): Now watch them run the table and make the playoffs.

27. Giants (4-8, No. 26): Can they get Eli Manning back for the rest of the season?

28. Bears (4-8, No. 27): Why did the team from Arizona look like the team built to play in Chicago in winter?

29. Jets (3-9, No. 28): Will it be Joe Douglas or someone else as the G.M. for those two high draft picks they’ll have?

30. Lions (1-10-1, No. 32): Is the dam getting ready to break? Or at least crack a little?

31. Texans (2-10, No. 30): Even at 2-10, they’re doing better than many thought they would.

32. Jaguars (2-10, No. 31): Would the former Ohio State coach draft the Michigan pass rusher with the top pick, if the Jags are in position to take him?

  1. Daboll is horrendous. His play calling has been like Cody Ford pretending to be an NFL Guard.

  2. Why do you keep the Ravens so high? They are in a free-fall right now and their QB is dragging them down. Until Lamar learns how to handle blitzes and pressure, they are going only one direction. It’s sad given they have plenty of offensive weapons for him. Harbaugh’s arrogance might actually have caught up with him. Stupid decision at the end of the Steelers game, although Andrews could not have been any more wide open for Lamar to hit… and instead of just zipping him the ball he held it too long. Again.

  3. I use to think the Chiefs were one of the few teams that didn’t have a bad loss but now I’m reconsidering it. They lost to the Bills.

  4. I don’t trust the Cardinals no matter how many games they win. They will be a quick out in the playoff.

  5. 1. Cardinals (10-2, last week No. 1): It doesn’t matter that they went 2-1 without him; if the Cardinals get the No. 1 seed in the NFC , Kyler Murray is the MVP.>>>

Nice to see the football media accepting reality. These ain’t your daddy’s Arizona Cardinals anymore.

  6. There’s only one first round bye. For the Rams to have any kind of shot at it, we have to beat the Cardinals on Monday night. That’s a really big game. During the off season I saw the Cardinals making moves. I expected them to have a good team this year, but I didn’t expect them to keep winning when two of their stars were out. They’re the real deal.

  7. Who is the most complete team? Pats have the roster to go ANYWHERE and win. Defense and running game. Trent Dilfer did it so why can’t Jones? And one very important expect is coaching. Pats can be a scary team

  8. As SF found out, The Seahawks are going to be a tough out for their remaining games. Tanking isn’t an option as they have no first round draft pick. Many of the “2022 free agents” are going to want to a good contract next season. The team will get a win against the Texans and look to try & run the table. Getting into the playoffs will only be possible if they stay hot and do that. Don’t rule them out. Go Hawks.

  9. I’d put Cards and Bucs above my Pats.

I genuinely thought the Pats would struggle to win 5 games this season so it’s already exceeded my expectations.

Also, in the AFC, the Chiefs look like they’re going to be the team to avoid in the playoffs.

  10. What a stunning turn for the Patriots. Most of the football world expected them to be a mediocre team at best. Not BB. He knew what he built and he just preached patience. Who really thought they would be back on top, much less than back on top this fast? Season is far from over, with tough games remaining. So impressed with this team right now

  11. When you elevated the Pats to #2 a couple of rankings ago there was a lot of pushback. Not so much pushback now.

  12. Craziest thing about the season is that if the dolphins went 2-5 instead of 0-7 during games 2-8 they’d be one game out of the #1 seed in the AFC.

  13. 8. Ravens (8-4, No. 5): It feels like they’re limping toward the finish line. If they get to the playoffs, what will they have left?

    —–

limping because Harbaugh shot themselves in the foot Sunday night. self inflicted wound.

  14. The Bears should only be ahead of the Lions. Chicago hasn’t been relevant since 1986. Even when they went to the SB in 2006 they were a joke that only got there because they had maybe the best return man in NFL history and a great D. I used to say that the Browns and Bears were the worst franchises in the NFL, but the Browns still kinda matter.

  15. If the Packers had Aaron Rodgers when they played the Chiefs, they’d have won that game and would be the #1 seed.
It doesn’t matter who is rated where. When playoff time comes around the teams which are the healthiest and have solid QB play, a good running game, and can play defense will get to the Super Bowl.

  16. Bills, Ravens, and Titans are ranked too high.
They played better earlier in the season, but given injuries and just how awful they’ve played lately, all three look like bad teams with increasingly poor outlooks for success in the playoffs.
Or possibly even making the playoffs…

  17. As a Lions fan, the worst thing they can do is win another 2 or 3 games and squander their 1st overall pick to another garbage team like the Jags, or Texans

  18. Pats and Bucs in Super Bowl
    ==========

Good thing the Winter Olympics would be on so there would be something good to watch.

  19. Trent Dilfer did it so why can’t Jones?
    ==========

That is an insult to Jones.

Dilfer threw for a massive 136 yards per game, 12 tds, 11 ints. The Ravens won in spite of him.

    Jones is playing very well.

  20. The reason the Vikings won’t make the playoffs is because of key injuries at every major position, except QB. The reason they lost to the Lions is because of Mike Zimmer. Fire Zimmer!

  21. Also, in the AFC, the Chiefs look like they’re going to be the team to avoid in the playoffs.
    ==========

Cincy, Indy, Buffalo… I don’t think any of the AFC teams will be happy with their road draw this year.

  22. Yeah, it’s injuries holding our Vikings back. No other team has to deal with that.

  23. 49ers (6-6, No. 13): The Seahawks are 2-0 against the 49ers and 2-8 against the rest of the league. Those two losses to Seattle could keep San Francisco home after Week 18.
    —————
    Don’t worry.
The 49ers will be watching the playoffs on TV.

Too bad AZ & GB don’t play so we can se who should be ranked higher!

There – fixed it for you.

    _________________________________________________________________

You guys always say ranked too high. Who the heck you gonna rank ahead of them? Chargers, Bengals, 49ers? Ah, no.

  26. Congrats to Trent Baalke and Urban Meyer for taking the least talented team in the league and making them worse

  27. The defense will carry them to the playoffs. The offense will have to carry them to a championship, if it can. You say this about the Chiefs, but it absolutely applies to the Patriots as well.

  28. Dallas and Ravens, on the list every year only to lose in round 1 or not even make it.

Zeke is washed up, Dak is back to average, and Lamar is a running back.

Rogers ego will cost his team, and the Patriots will come back down to earth.

  29. Love my Chiefs but about every other game their WR’s disappear and seemingly don’t run basic routes…. How do they have games where they don’t throw the ball 25 yards in the air 5 times, let alone once…. Makes zero sense. I get the check downs, but that offense looks clumsy and mismanaged. Add the drops and bad throws, it’s hard to watch.

  30. NFC clearly superior this season with 5 of top teams on PFT list. Pats may dominate AFC for another decade but maybe a year away from winning it all.

Meanwhile, at a time when most teams are banged up at best or decimated by injuries at worst, GB can look forward to the return of two pro-bowlers (David Bakhtiari and Jaire Alexander) plus their best pass rusher (Za’Darius Smith). There’s your juggernaut, even if AZ does not stumble with their tougher schedule and the Pack has to travel to AZ to beat them. Again.

If you thought last off-season in GB was a soap opera, imagine if the Pack wins the SB and the front office has to swallow their pride to keep AR at all costs due to fan pressure. The drama knob will have to be turned up to 11.

  31. Just read the Ravens are considering paying Lamar $45mm. That is hillarious. He’s terrible right now, regressing year over year, and you still have money to pay players in skilled positions! And he still can’t throw or read defenses or figure out what to do under pressure. When you pay him, and you can’t pay any skilled players and lose 3-5 of your key guys, then what? Who’s to blame then? Why not just pay Lamar the entire salary cap and play just with him? Because that’s basically what you’ve done with this team. You built a gimmick offense around a running back who occassionally throws and can hit receivers who are only wide open and when he has no pressure. Sweet!

  32. If you thought last off-season in GB was a soap opera, imagine if the Pack wins the SB and the front office has to swallow their pride to keep AR at all costs due to fan pressure. The drama knob will have to be turned up to 11.

LaFleur and Rodgers seem to have a great relationship
Murphy gets another year with a Packer icon, huge appeal for tickets and selling gear

Gutekunst is the only potential loser in your scenario. At some point they have to find out what they have in Jordan Love. But if the Packers kept Rodgers beyond 2021, I would assume that would mean keeping him for the duration of his career.

2 more years with Rodgers? Maybe 3 or 4? Icon. HOFr. Still capable of career-type years..
or facing a future with an unproven guy who didn’t look very good last month?

I know which I’d rather choke down.

  33. The Patriots have certainly exceeded expectations but they lack a deep threat passing attack. Now that the Chiefs defense is playing much better than before they are the most complete AFC team.

  34. This season is kind of a mess – parity is making 2/3 of the league “pretty good” and no one great. Every team has looked awful at times.

I have to think that experience and good coaching will make the difference in the playoffs. That means, talent won’t get teams like Arizona past teams with savvier coaches and battle-tested rosters.

I could see any of about 10 teams winning it all this year. And if they did the playoffs twice, it would probably look totally different. It’s that kind of year.

  35. Also, in the AFC, the Chiefs look like they’re going to be the team to avoid in the playoffs.
    ==========

As long as they keep playing teams that are severely lacking a defense such as the Raiders or teams that don’t have a decent QB such as Denver. Playoff teams are generally very good at both of those aspects.

  36. Hey Missin’ Again, we are kinda on the same page but I don’t see Gutie as a fall guy, even if he has to eat crow when AR wins his 2nd SB. MM will protect his protege and he will be around long after AR hangs it up after 3 or 4 more years, retiring as a Packer. They will build a truce, and Gutie will get credit for building a championship defense. AR’s next contract in the off-season will break the bank (read new stock share sales) and buy his loyalty as a Packer For Life. Remember you read it here first!

  37. As I have said all along the AFC will come into focus after the dust settles from the December 19th Titans at Steelers showdown. It could be a Super Bowl preview!

  38. I agree with every rating here. Bills hype is just that. All the while Bill B was plotting Pats ressurection from the dirt that the nay sayers threw on them. And I’m definitely not a Pats fan. Bill B is just the wile-e-est coach in the room.

Washington is about to beat Dallas twice. Mark my words.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Noted.

  40. Packers at 3 seems about right for now. Should change soon when they win out and the Cardinals lose at least one more.
