Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott went for an MRI on his injured knee after last Thursday’s win over the Saints and he told reporters on Wednesday that it brought back some good news.

Elliott said that it showed his knee is “healing up and going in the right direction” as he continues to play through the injury. Elliott has been steadfast about preferring to stay on the field and he said Wednesday that “playing on it is not making it worse.”

“It’s football, you’re never going to be 100 percent; might be 100 percent the first day of camp,” Elliott said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “It’s a tough game. But, yeah, I take a lot of pride in being out there. You are going have to drag me off the field.”

Elliott hasn’t topped 51 rushing yards in a game since the Week Seven bye and the Cowboys would welcome the same kind of progress on the field that the MRI found inside of Elliott’s knee.

  1. Pollard is the better RB. Zeke hasn’t “lit it up” in a long time. And the knee issue is just an excuse. He’s either healthy enough to play or he should be sitting out.

  2. After watching that last game, I’d wouldn’t call Eliot a running back. More like a “lumbering back”.

  3. Freshly drafted running backs should get their own rookie pay scale, or something… their shelf life is so short. Find some way to get them more money early on… not talking about Zeke here; he got paid.

  4. Elliot is washed up and it’s pretty sad because dude was only drafted 5 year’s ago with the 4th overall pick in the 2016 draft. And now his best days are behind him. This is why NO MATTER how good they are stop using 1st round picks on RBs especially top 5-10 draft picks. Elliot is only going to get worse not better but he could still be an excellent #2 back if you limit his carry’s however given what Jones is paying him (another mistake) he’s pretty much stuck with him as a top running back. I’d still make him the number 2 keeping Elliot around until it becomes financially palatable to eat what’s left on his deal and let him walk.

  6. I don’t need to be a doctor to know that if you keep playing the professional sport of football, where you constantly take hits, make cuts and put stress on your knee, then an injured knee is not going to get worse. That’s one of the most moronic things I’ve ever heard. I don’t understand why they just won’t sit him for a week or two. The offense will be more than fine.

  7. As a long time Cowboys fan it’s tough to watch. Love Zeke, but clearly not healthy and a giving all you got player no matter what requires coaches willing to see the big picture. We don’t need a give all you got limping Zeke not having enough to legitimately fight for first downs. We need a rested Zeke after a couple of games who is healed up enough to make it to and thru playoffs. Pollard has proved he’s more than capable to carry load would remove him from return duties and put Zeke in garage for a few weeks and pray he doesn’t come out looking like Luka Doncic.

  8. If you wanna say Zeke is over paid, fine… But if you question his football instincts and value – tjen you don’t know football.
