The Broncos honored the memory of their late wide receiver Demaryius Thomas when the offense took the field today in Denver.

After the opening kickoff, the Broncos’ offense took the field and lined up with only 10 players, a nod to one Broncos great who is no longer with us. Thomas died last week at the age of 33.

The Broncos did not run a play, instead taking a delay of game penalty. The Lions, in a classy gesture from head coach Dan Campbell, declined the penalty.

This is not the first time a team has lined up with 10 players to honor a fallen teammate. After the death of Sean Taylor, Washington had only 10 defensive players on the field for the first play of the next game.

Once the game started, the Broncos’ offense looked great, marching 75 yards over 11 plays for a touchdown and taking a 7-0 lead.

  1. Classy gesture. Classy response from the Lions. Such a lovely way to remember a great man and a great player. Sleep well, Demariyus.

  2. I continue to be impressed with the character of those in charge of my Lions. Last weeks response after the Oxford shooting, and this awareness of what matters is NOT 5 yards it was to make the gesture by Denver have no repercussions on the competition. I was put off by Campbells rah rah talk initially, I’ve been proven wrong. Get more talent of course is a mantra for any team in any sport but the people running things matter as does their Character when real life interjects. Happy we have people who aren’t lost in the clouds, the playbook, or their own ego to where they don’t act in a manner we can cheer for, be proud of. So good luck to Denver after today, same with my Lions. Both teams conducted themselves with respect and class before they tried to defeat the other today. RIP to Mr Thomas, and condolences to his loved ones for a life lived to briefly and then gone.

  3. id say do it in you victory formation at the end of the game…
