Another head coach has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Saints announced Sean Payton tested positive for the virus on Friday and was immediately isolated. New Orleans’ release noted Payton is fully vaccinated.

Payton missed Wednesday’s practice because he was feeling ill, participating in meetings virtually. But at that point, he tested negative for COVID-19.

Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will serve as the team’s acting head coach for Sunday’s matchup against the Buccaneers. Payton is slated to return for the club’s Dec. 27 matchup against the Dolphins.

Allen was the Raiders’ head coach from 2012-2014.

Payton also contracted the virus as it was emerging back in March 2020.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, though he has a chance to test out of the league’s protocols to coach Saturday’s game against the Raiders. All three of the Bears coordinators also tested positive for the virus this week.

  1. Prayers for a speedy recovery, Coach. This is the second time he has actually gotten sick from the virus (not just tested positive).

On a larger level, it is a concern about the testing effectiveness if someone is feeling the effects before actually testing positive.

  2. Previously infected, fully vaccinated, still tests positive and is only mildly ill.

Stop thinking this can be halted. It can’t.

Good news is Payton is gonna be fine. No amount of testing, masking, distancing, postponements or anything is going to stop this.

Those who are sick should sit. Those who are positive but are well… let’s go. Move on.

  3. Those who are infected should isolate so as not to spread it to others.

    Did Payton get the vaccination?

If not, then he made a poor decision.

  4. Dr Vin Gupta recently stated on record that vaccinated peoole will test positive: So why even test for it if we know people will test positive. None of this makes any sense. It’s just makes money for those invested.

  5. “Fully vaccinated” over 8 months ago without getting a booster = Not vaccinated. Chances are good that he’s only mildly ill because he was previously vaccinated.

  6. If all the “rebels” would’ve gotten vaxxed at the start, this would be over by now.
Unfortunately, they think they know what they’re talking about and it’s messing everything up for everyone else.

The virus can be slowed. It already has been. Nobody is claiming it can be stopped. As a matter of fact, scientists are telling us we will be living with it for a long time. However, your idea to just let infected people play guarantees that it will rage out of control for a much longer time period.

  8. It’s time to move on. This is getting to becoming a joke. If they’re not sick play and coach. These test are a joke When will they realize it. Sad thing is the NFL knows this, but they keep on going with the agenda.

  9. Isn’t it amazing that stuff like this always happens to Brady’s opponents right before the match up? Serious question here. Has any Tampa player tested positive whatsoever since COVID began with Brady there? If you don’t find that suspicious then you need to get a clue. Brady’s dad Goodell would let Brady play through all positive tests period.

  10. Natural immunity for COVID declines over time but never completely goes away. Hopefully that helps Sean Payton from getting seriously ill. This virus is relentless.

Do you really believe what you wrote? If so, you took, hook, line and sinker. Get a clue!

  12. Not to worry Saints fans, I hear that Kevin James is going to be making his coaching debut Sunday!

  13. “Fully vaccinated” over 8 months ago without getting a booster = Not vaccinated

Flash ahead to the statement we will hear next December…

“Fully vaccinated” over 1 year and 8 months ago without getting your 7th booster = Not vaccinated.
