Dalvin Cook rushed for 89 yards on 28 carries and Kirk Cousins tossed two touchdowns as the Minnesota Vikings picked up a 17-9 victory on the road over the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

In a game that was far from an offensive clinic for either team, the Vikings did just enough and made fewer mistakes.

The Bears fumbled four times with three being recovered by Minnesota. Justin Fields, Damiere Byrd and David Montgomery all lost fumbled for the Bears while Fields had a second fumble that he managed to recover to maintain possession.

Justin Jefferson gave the Vikings the lead on a 12-yard pass from Cousins on Minnesota’s second drive of the night. Fields’ lost fumble led to more points as Greg Joseph converted a 37-yard field goal to make it a 10-0 game.

The Bears survived Montgomery’s lost fumble without allowing points and Cairo Santos got the Bears on the board with a 34-yard field goal to make it 10-3 late in the second quarter.

Minnesota marched 77 yards in 12 plays with the help of 20 yards in penalties from the Bears as Ihmir Smith-Marsette caught a 7-yard touchdown, the first of his career, to extend the Vikings lead to 17-3.

Cousins threw for just 87 yards on the night, completing 12-of-24 passes with the two scores and a an interception.

The Vikings went three-and-out on four consecutive drives in the second half and managed just 193 yards of total offense on the night to continually give Chicago chances to get back in the game. However, they were unable to do so.

The Bears turned it over on downs on three straight fourth quarter drives with all three possessions ending deep in Minnesota territory.

Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks was ejected after hitting a sliding Fields in the head midway through the fourth quarter.

Fields scrambled for a first down and slid in an upright position. Kendricks hit Fields helmet-to-helmet and led to his disqualification from the rest of the game for the personal foul.

The penalty gave the Bears a first-and-goal at the Minnesota 7-yard line. However, tight end Jimmy Graham was unable to secure a third down pass in the end zone and wide receiver Darnell Mooney was unable to catch a fourth down pass and stay in bounds to keep the Bears off the board.

Byrd dropped a pass that would have resulted in a fourth down conversion on Chicago’s next possession.

A last-second 19-yard touchdown pass from Fields to Jesper Horsted closed the final deficit to 17-9. The extra point was not attempted because it didn’t matter to the result of the game.

Fields finished the night with 285 yards and a touchdown on 26-of-39 passing. Montgomery led the way on the ground with 60 yards on 18 carries. Cole Kmet had six catches for 71 yards.

The Bears were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

  1. Yay! You did it!!!
I knew you could, I just knew it!
I told everybody, but they just wouldn’t listen. Idiots!
I knew this Viking team would claw their way back, all the way back to .500!
I’m so proud of you. 🤣

In other news, I’m absolutely thrilled I decided to finish my Christmas shopping tonight, rather than watch that hot garbage of a game.
It was obviously time better spent. 🎁 🌲 🎉

  2. The NFL needs to do something about that ridiculous air raid siren, which blared so mindlessly it even sounded AFTER the Bears muffed a punt and turned the ball over.

The Bears made that game so wretched on multiple levels it was nearly unwatchable. They have an all-World defensive line, an insane coach and are like the undead with the discipline to match. Wretched. There is no way the Jets are worse than this?

  3. FIELDS APPEARS TO BE THE KEY BUIDLING BLOCK FOR A BEARS TOP 3 DRAFT POSITION IN 2023. WHAT A MESS TONIGHT WAS FOR CHICAGO. This is a move up from Trubisky?

  4. This was a battle for the ages for the coveted 2nd place position in the NFC North.

    And they saved Zimmer’s job!

  5. It’s almost unbelievable how horrible the Bears are… it’s really a feat.
I don’t know how Nagy has a job after breakfast tomorrow. To his credit, the team hasn’t quit on him. But what’s the difference at this point?

  6. Everybody said its hard to play QB for the Chicago Bears. Its an uphill battle from the start. That said I dont know whats so great about Fields thats makes him any better than his predecessors Just saying I dont see it. They will likely have a new HC maybe GM too, but if Fields ever becomes something as an NFL QB it probably wont be in Chicago.

  7. The Vikings line had no answer for Quinn + Hicks + Goldman. Had Mack also been on the field Cousins would be a corpse right now.

  8. Great officiating! Will Cousins go 1-1-1 to finish the season to maintain his perfect .500 record?

  9. That by far was the swan song of Matt Nagy. Goodbye and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  10. When did the league start overturning the calls on the field with no explanation? On the field, there was no flag thrown for roughing the passer when Fields took a knee… but then 30 or 40 seconds later someone decided to call a penalty on it? And when Cousins was given a first down on the field, someone overturned it to being short without a challenge from Nagy? Is there some unknown person in a booth somewhere that just calls whatever they want with no explanation?

  11. Any speculations on the size of Kendricks’ fine? Griese said it was a vicious hit. I agree. If the NFL really wants to get rid of these kind of hits, I’m thinking it has to be at least $100K, probably double. Gotta send a message to these guys.

  12. A lot of Bears fans sounding down on their team-perhaps with good reason-but as a neutral observer what I saw tonight made me much more concerned about the Packers facing the Bears next season as opposed to the Packers facing the Vikings next season, or this season. Or any season.
The Bears were by far the better team tonight talent wise. But man were they bad.

  13. “EARN” is a generous word to describe how the Vikings got that win. A couple of nice catches by JJ as usual…otherwise both Offenses should be ashamed of themselves.

  14. I’m a Vikings fan, but saying that the Vikes “earned” a win tonight is really stretching it.

  15. My favorite game every year is minnesota at Chicago. Watching bear fans in the stands, so fun, so classy. And Montgomery is a great back. Easily one the nfl’s best

  16. If Matt Nagy is still the head coach by their next game then the McCaskeys truly don’t give a damn. The Bears have had 5 primetime games this season and have looked progressively worse in every one. How can you own a charter franchise and be OK with that kind of embarrassment? Two side notes: 1) The defense looked the best it has all year. Typical Bears, not bringing their best effort till it no longer matters. 2) all those saying the Bears are a plum gig because of Fields… not so sure. He’s athletic and has arm talent but can’t read defenses, doesn’t see the field well and is way too careless with the ball. There are tools to work with but he needs a TON of coaching up and probably won’t be playing to his potential until the end of next season if he ever does. Big changes are needed in Halas Hall and I’m not sure why the holdup other than the McCaskeys have already checked out for the holidays.

  17. It was a poorly officiated game and the Bears were undisciplined as well. Unfortunately, the Bears lost and Nagy will be gone at year’s end. On the bright side, Vikings won and Zimmer will be retained. To bad Packer fans can’t have it both ways and they retain both coaches!

  18. This game was an embarrassment for Bears fans. The team showed it has talent, outplaying the Vikings at every level, but managed to Keystone Kops it to a truly humiliating defeat. That’s on the coaching, starting from the top.

  19. Zimmer didn’t like his player kicked out of the game .. did he actually see it? That was a cheap shot for sure on the qb … unnecessary no doubt and should be a fine coming too.

  20. Everyone who watched that game saw what we’ve been saying for years: the Vikings get more help from the refs than every other team (except for maybe whoever Tom Brady plays for).

Take the points off given to them by the refs, and the Bears kick field goals instead of trying to force TDs. That happens, bears win 12-10.

  21. The Bears played, and Nagy coached like this was their Super Bowl. Emotionally charged players (and the coach) committing stupid penalties after plays, and the coach constantly going for it on 4th down within FG position. The Bears could have won that game easily by racking up points, but they can’t get out of their own way.

    Akiem Hicks is a monster.

    I’m glad we hung on.

  22. I would’ve titled it: “Vikings couldn’t even throw the game away to the bears” Even with some clueless plays on both sides, Bears couldn’t capitalize. I honestly think that both teams didn’t look great yesterday and the Bears defense was good but committing too many dumb penalties and horrible playcalling. (Do the bears trust Fields to throw more than 10 yards down the field? Seemed like check-down throws for 90%+ of the plan for him).

  23. These are our favorite games to watch each season because we know we have a better chance of beating the Bears than the Packers.

So you’re not a Packer fan or you don’t watch Packer games? After last nights game now I know how good it feels being a Packer fan with the ref being the 12th man all season.

  25. You mean Chicago who put a whopping 28 points on the Packers? Well, they only put 3 only the Vikings defense. That last second play was not even close to a td.

  26. Pardon my ignorance, I’ve only been watching football religiously for 42 years but, isn’t the Bears offense suppossed to use people who know what football is and maybe even played it before?

  27. Isn’t the rule they have to kick the PAT or go for something even if the clock is at 0? Some of us might have had the +7 Chicago was laying.

  28. Great win for the Vikings! Keeps those playoff hopes alive and hopefully gets the brain trust another extension. Let’s keep making that beautiful music for the next ten years.

  29. Our Vikings held the Bears to fewer points than the Packers did . . . that means we win the division, right? Right???

  30. When did they stop going for the extra point at the end of the game if it didn’t affect the final score? I thought the guy bobbled it and got full possession outside of the end zone anyway. And who put that extra second on the clock?

    —————————————————————————————————————-
Mack would’ve been good for about two tackles and a sack. That been his average this season. He’s been a shadow of his self. The last time Mack was in a game against Cousins, Mack had one assisted tackle. Nothing else.

  32. Things have never looked brighter for the Bears owners. T.V. money going higher every year, Soldier Field filled with fans, what’s not to like?

Ummmm…the Vikings also beat your Packers this season already.

Refs help Vikings “earn” a win on MNF. Fixed it for you.

The Bears lost their heads. What would you have the ref do when, right in front of him, a Bears player punches a Vikings player in the head? Should the refs do nothing, like they did when the Bears CB tackled JJ on the Cousins Int?

  36. Justin Jefferson getting tackled on the route that led to the easiest interception in HISTORY. Ridiculous non-call. Or when Hicks goes helmet to helmet with Cousins in the pocket and doesn’t get flagged, much less ejected like Kendricks did. Refs were plain bad all around.

I also learned that apparently if you spike the red flag hard enough, they’ll just change the call and you don’t even have to use a challenge.

So is Kendricks supposed to injure himself by trying to jump completely over Fields upright body? Griese even mentions how he slides completely wrong by being upright, how is that fair to the defenders trying to avoid contact?

  38. Not really sure because I don’t have a spreadsheet of actual Bear player salaries but I think as of now the top 5 or 6 salaries on the Bears have played in less than 50% of the 14 games this year.

  39. Mack would’ve been good for about two tackles and a sack. That been his average this season. He’s been a shadow of his self.
    ______

You know that projects to a 17 sack season, right?

  40. I’m not sure which of last night’s games was more ugly or boring, but it definitely wasn’t the NFL’s best representation. Ugh.

  41. Looking forward to our next super bowl meeting coming up in Green Bay. Could our Vikes win two championships in one season??

  42. Welcome back, Ariani. We knew you’d join us after our Vikings won a game. We missed you on Saturday and Sunday.

  43. UGLY game, our defense made stops when needed though!! Nagy has lost team and players celebrating as if was Super Bowl. Bears belong in CFL, what a disgrace!! I really think it will come down to team that gets hot now, like Tampa last year. Watch out for INDY in AFC also!!
