Kevin Stefanski won’t rule out Browns changing kickers after another Chase McLaughlin miss

Browns kicker Chase McLaughlin missed another field goal in Monday’s loss to the Raiders, making him just 2-for-6 on field goals over the last four games. And that could lead to him losing his job.

Asked about making a change today, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t rule it out, saying only that he didn’t want to get into what roster moves the Browns might make. And Stefanski says McLaughlin has to make his kicks.

“Chase understands that he has to make those kicks. He puts as much pressure on himself as anybody else. So he wants to come through and we’re counting on him,” Stefanski said.

The Browns probably have to win out to make the playoffs, and they can’t afford to keep missing field goals. With their next game in just four days, however, it may be tough to find a new kicker in time, and so they may feel they have little choice but to stick with McLaughlin.

  1. Time for Mr. Phil Dawson to dust off the old cleats and come out of retirement to save the Season for the Browns. 2 games were lost due to poor special teams. Week 1 vs. Chiefs on a botched punt and this Raiders game. The Scottish Hammer should be working on updating his resume as well.

  2. How many times does a time out actually bother the kicker?

Dude choked after the time out. Carlson sent his dead center to win the game.

  3. These is only one Justin Tucker and unfortunately for the Browns he’s employed by the Ravens.

Maybe I’m thinking about this too simplistically, and I’m admittedly far from an expert on kicking. But how much time does a kicker need? I get he has to be in sync with the holder, but if McLaughlin is just 2 of 6 in his last 4 games, obviously whatever he’s doing isn’t working anyways and he’s in sync with the holder and long snapper.

  5. The reason the Browns took the lead late in that game was because the kicker MISSED the field goal in the first half. If he makes it, the score would have been 13-10. So later, when they go for it on fourth down and score a td, that would never have happened. The Browns would have most definitely kicked the field goal to tie it up. Not making an excuse for the kicker, but to say the Browns would of won is BALOGNA!
