Lamar Jackson officially out Sunday, Josh Johnson set to start

It looks like the Ravens will be starting Josh Johnson at quarterback in Cincinnati on Sunday.

The team announced that Lamar Jackson did not travel with the team on Saturday, which leaves Johnson as the only quarterback currently available to play against the Bengals because Tyler Huntley was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on Saturday.

Johnson signed with the Ravens last week to give them a backup to Huntley as Jackson tried to work his way back from the ankle injury. There is no quarterback on the Baltimore practice squad with Chris Streveler going on the practice squad COVID reserve list this week, so it’s unclear who would be the next man up should something happen to Johnson on Sunday.

None of it makes for an ideal situation for a team battling for its playoff life, but it is the one the Ravens will have to navigate this weekend.

  1. So this should be be a cake walk for the Bengals. The Ravens may be lucky to make the playoffs.

  2. Josh Johnson keeps getting called up. God Bless him hopefully he can eke out a few more game checks and keep the gravy train rolling

  3. Any player on any team can be out at a moments notice, unlucky for Baltimore it has happened to such an important position with their starter already out.

  4. I’m a Bengals fan, but I wish the Ravens had their team healthy. Winning a game against an opponent decimated with injuries offers neither bragging rights nor a true test of your team’s abilities.

  5. This is why most teams keep3 QBs on the roster. Having your RB pretend to be a QB isn’t going to help you in situations like this, especially if that RB is nursing a sprain on his throwing ankle.

  6. I think we’ve found a back up QB in Josh Johnson that has played for more teams than Ryan Fitzpatrick. Didn’t think it was possible.

  7. Seems Cincinnati needs to stop the run with 10 people in box, and make Johnson beat you with his arm.

  8. The Ravens must rue the day they let Trace McSorley go to the Cardinals! Oh well, hopefully next year they aren’t decimated by injuries!
    Mock draft time!
