When it comes to the pandemic, the NFL and NFL Players Association have one overriding objective. To get the games in.

In that regard, the league and the union received a belated Christmas gift on Monday. The CDC has reduced the isolation time for individuals who have tested positive from 10 days to five. Per multiple reports, the NFL and NFLPA could soon implement that change in its own protocols.

This would mean, based on the current protocols, that unvaccinated persons who test positive will be gone for five days, not 10. It also would mean that vaccinated players who test positive can return after five days, even if they don’t test negative.

That’s a huge boost for the league as management and labor try to get all games in, through the end of the postseason. By getting players back sooner, it’s more likely that games will be played.

  1. I love this. We’re getting too soft. Get these games in. Get the super bowl in. If players or coaches die the day after the season ends, next man up.

  2. Isn’t one of the caveats for the 5 day quarantine that the individual be asymptomatic? Hmmm… “Hey (insert name), are you suffering from any of the following symptoms?” I wonder how that’s going to go…

  3. Oh wow! This is great news for the browns….4 weeks ago! Gotta replay like 4 browns games to make this right,

  4. Colts fan here. I’m sure I’m not the only one hoping this gets done…like by tonight.

  5. Um, they didn’t do it for the NFL, but for employers in general that want their people to be able to work.

  6. No need to blast the league for this. It’s CDC recommendation. Isn’t that the whole point of their existence?

  7. An isolation period of less than 7 days would actually create an incentive to test the heck out of the entire team right after the game. Its great if players can practice, but much more important not to miss key players during the actual games, and if a positive test tuesday means missing the game, it would make sense to test everyone sunday and monday so if they test positive they only miss practice.

Waaaaah waaaah. The games were played with the same rules everyone else had to follow. It’s no different than a speed limit being changed they don’t say all the previous tickets are voided.
