Tom Brady has a penchant for destroying electronics, and the NFL doesn’t like it.

Brady’s toss of a Microsoft Surface during the 9-0 loss to the Saints in Week 15 went viral and became a popular GIF. It also drew the attention — and apparently annoyance — of the NFL, which has had a multi-million-dollar sponsorship deal with Mircrosoft since 2013.

“I did get a warning from the NFL,” Brady said with a chuckle on his “Let’s Go!” podcast with Jim Gray on SiriusXM. “I can’t throw another Surface or else I get fined. Imagine that. Imagine that.”

Brady apologized for destroying the device, which occurred out of frustration after an interception.

“I won’t throw another Surface,” Brady said. “Although I think it was pretty good marketing for the Surface at the end of the day. I think it worked out pretty well for them.”

Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson tweeted, and then deleted, a humorous response after the third shutout of Brady’s career: “Hey @Microsoft @surface, can y’all send me a new Surface Tablet? I need to give it to a friend who broke his. Thank you and Merry Christmas.”

Microsoft Support responded: “We’ve reviewed the tape and while we don’t recommend throwing your @surface (even if your friend holds the NFL record for career completions), here are some tips on caring for your Surface.”

    Funny stuff!!

  2. Hope Brady threw his tablet again after he got the warning. Whether one is a fan of Brady or not, it’s clear the NFL police are ruining the sport by taking the fun out of it.

  3. They don’t call him Baby Brady for nothing. He’s a two-year old in an old man’s body.

If he loses, he takes his ball and goes home without congratulating the victors. So sad.

  4. John Madden’s passing should stay the top story throughout the week.

I’m not trying to tell you how to run your very successful site. But I think a lot of us wouldn’t be here without John Madden.

  5. I won’t throw another Surface,” Brady said. “Although I think it was pretty good marketing for the Surface at the end of the day. I think it worked out pretty well for them.” what a ego maniac response hes a total diva.

  6. Note to Brady–most people that get a tablet from work, if they smash it, they actually get in trouble or get fired

I don’t know why we accept coaches, players or anyone in sports to make an emotional outburst and smash technology. Lots of people likely would want a tablet that like and can’t afford it.

If Brady offered to donate money to some group that gives tech to perhaps underserved communities, that would be a bit more pleasant than him openly mocking the NFL for threatening to fine him.

Also, Brady throws a pick–tries to make tackle, Barnett comes to block and the official throws himself in front of Barnett to protect Brady, during that play Bucs Vs Eagles!

Brady throws pick vs Saints, runs over to their sideline and curses them out–no flag

Cassius Marsh stares at Steelers sideline after a huge sack, gets 15 yard penalty.

Rules just don’t apply to Brady, do they?

  7. I guess Golden Boy won’t get suspended either for cursing out the Saints Defensive coach on the sideline. Fining Brady would be a joke with his income. He did show the world what a poor sport he is when he is LOSING! The Saints never even scored a touchdown, and beat the mighty Brady with 3 field goals by holding him to ZERO points. Did you hear me? I said ZERO points.

  8. “Hey Tom, we loved what you did. We knew millions of people would see it, because we make sure that you are recorded every moment you are on the sideline. This can be a money maker for all of us if we pretend to be mad. Is it ok if we send out a press release?” Signed, Roger and the NFL.

  9. He’s not wrong.
Him throwing that tablet was better advertising for Microsoft than all the commercials they run.

  10. What was he trying to hide when he destroyed the tablet? Need a full-fledged investigation of this incident by Ted Wells!!

  11. Gardner-Johnson – Brady has 7 super bowl rings, you will be watching the playoffs on your couch this year.

  12. I do the same thing when I lose another football bet. I now have something in common with Tom. So I have that going for me, which is nice.

  13. It was not on the field of play. It was not NFL property. I do not see why the NFL needed to give Brady a warning. What is next fining players for wasting Gatorade?

  14. If it was some poor Jags or Lions receiver who slipped in to the nearby trash can or to the bench – they wouldve penalized him for $20,000.

  15. The Saints players and coaches talk a lot more than they win. It’s why they couldn’t even beat the Dolphins, Giants, Falcons or Eagles. Now, they have a super bowl hangover after sweeping the Bucs.

  16. “Pretty good marketing for them”? Even Tom is starting to believe everything he touches turns to gold. Just goes to show that outstanding work ethic and passion for the game can overshadow the absence of elite talent. Look at where this got Tommy Boy, he’s like a YouTuber on steroids. Don’t forget to subscribe.

  17. It would have been good marketing for Microsoft if the Surface had survived Brady’s rant without any damage. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be how things turned out.

  18. Personally, I find this hilarious and a good way to end the year. But I still don’t want/need a Surface.

  19. Yeah, Tom proved in his display of frustration that he actually is human, not just super-human. Alas, he has emotions. The NFL should thank him actually, for he proved the NFL is not merely trotting well-oiled machines and perfect robots out onto the field. NFL players like Tom Brady are actually real people with amazing skills and talent.

  20. Hohohooo, to be wealthy and have a chuckle about destroying work equipment. I’ll reach that level the day before my death.

  21. Temper tantrum Tommy promises he won’t throw another Surface. Or threaten to take his ball and go home.

  22. I guess he did learn something from Belichick after all. I wonder if BB got a warning after he threw his a few years ago during a Bills game.

  23. Really!!!??? This is an issue now? He wasn’t upset or denigrating the product. So if he throws a New Era hat or Gatorade bottle down in frustration he would get a warning too? This is getting so ridiculous!!!!

  24. Surface already has those ads with players using the surface on the sideline. I expect we’ll see another one featuring the Brady clip soon.

  25. I think the term “bad optics” applies here.
The NFL cares more about Microsoft surface than it does about its own players lol

  26. All he would have to is say he’ll retire effective immediately if they fine him and they’ll reconsider on the spot. Would he do it? Doesn’t matter, the NFL wants no part of that game of chicken for destroying electronics. They can simply fine the team if they are so concerned, and the team would pay the fine without even thinking about it. Whoever dreamed up a fine is clueless. They have zero leverage.

  27. Not sure why the Saints defensive back deleted the tweet….it was good natured light hearted ribbing. Maybe he figured poking the big lion in the chest would come back to bite him in the behind when they meet again, ha.

  28. Regardless if you like Brady or not, does review on the bench what went wrong or right on the previous offensive series …..rarely do you see him JUST sitting on the bench doing nothing.

  29. I can’t help but wonder how this season would have gone with a healthy Saints team. That includes Thomas. Looking forward to the draft. We need a lot of help offensively. Starting with WR. Geaux Saints, Happy 2022 and good luck to the teams in the SB.

  30. Montana never did anything like this. Neither did Peyton Manning. Neither did Drew Brees. Or Bledsoe for that matter.

Those guys are classy. Tantrum Tammy who was famously suspended for cheating isn’t. Got quite the ego on him too judging by those comments.

One of many reasons why I’m not a fan anymore.

As a lifetime Cowboys fan I wish Dak Prescott was as much about winning as Tom Brady is.
    ——
That has nothing to do with winning. That’s a 44 year old egomaniac having a temper tantrum cause a Taysom Hill team was kicking his butt.

Nothing to admire or emulate there.

  32. Knowing the NFL the warning was probably “If you throw another tablet we’re going to warn you again!”

A shutout is what happens when refs don’t gift him calls all day.

    ——
So, he just got lucky in his previous 255 starts when they didn’t get shut out and helped his teams win at a higher % than anyone in the history of the game.

    Seems accurate. And sane.

  34. Wow the NFL isnt playing around. They are taking the kid gloves off and sending Tom to timeout for 5 minutes if he does it again.

  35. TB is just a fierce competitor who was frustrated. That’s why he’s a champion and such a good teammate, they say.

When a wide receiver or cornerback does something like this he’s selfish and a cancer in the locker room who needs to be cut from the team, they say.

    Funny.

  36. A fine wouldn’t do jack to the uber rich Brady. Now a suspension for cursing out the Saints Defensive coach might get his attention.

  37. “Although I think it was pretty good marketing for the Surface at the end of the day. I think it worked out pretty well for them.”

The arrogance of this guy is staggering. I think Bill Gates and Microsoft has done just fine without Tom Brady in the picture. News Flash: Technology will continue to advance regardless of you cheating your way to title and throwing tantrums on the sidelines.
