Ben Roethlisberger showed up to work today recognizing that it was likely going to be the last game of his NFL career. Thanks to the Steelers’ win and some lucky breaks around the league, it almost certainly won’t be.

Unless tonight’s Chargers-Raiders game ends in a tie, the Steelers are in the playoffs and Roethlisberger will play at least one more game, next week. Roethlisberger said after the game that he was thrilled by the way the team played.

“So many people got involved. So many people helped make this happen. Offense, defense, [kicker Chris Boswell] — there was never a doubt Bos was going to make it,” Roethlisberger said. “This is a group that we just wanted to try to get in.”

They will get in, barring the most unlikely result tonight, and Roethlisberger’s long and impressive postseason career will have one more chapter.

  1. Chiefs defense is suspect and the offense seems to go in spurts. Fortunately for the Chiefs, Ben can’t throw more than 8 yards. And I think the Chiefs offense can do enough against the Steelers defense to put this one away by halftime.

  2. He should also be praising the open-field tackling abilities of Patrick Queen and Jimmy Smith. Or lack thereof, which have allowed soft 3rd and long conversions all season long.

As a Ravens fan I am thrilled that this season has been put out of its misery.

  3. Guess we’re in the same boat rewenayshin, make the playoffs just to lose. Why do we wish for disappointment? The Pat’s and Steeler’s are going nowhere in the postseason but we’re happy they are there. Guess it’s like the lottery, living on a prayer

  4. I thought the redskins getting into the playoffs last year was the worst team ever in the playoffs, yet this mediocre Steelers real with a broken Big Ben clock will be playing next weekend.

Sheesh that will be almost unwatchable, Chiefs will torch them

  5. Steelers are just have that culture of winning. So even when you don’t have that talented of a team, the culture and heart land you in the playoffs.

  6. The Steeler Revenge Tour starts this Sunday. After putting a dagger in the season for the Browns and Ravens and already beating the top 2 AFC seeds (the Titans and Bills) the Steelers will extract revenge on the Chiefs, Patriots and Bengals before topping the Packers in Super Bowl 56. GO STEELERS!
