The Bears are continuing to add names to their list of head coaching candidates Tuesday and three popular names in this hiring cycle have joined the group.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that they have requested an interview with Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that they have also requested an interview with Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Pelissero also reports that they want to interview Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

All three men have also been linked to the Jaguars’ head coaching vacancy. Leftwich spoke to the team last week while Hackett is set to speak to them this week. The Broncos have also requested an interview with Hackett. Eberflus passed on an interview during the regular season, but Pelissero reports he’s got a Saturday interview scheduled.

Leftwich’s colleague in Tampa Todd Bowles has also gotten an interview request from Chicago. Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier are also on the list of candidates.

  1. Wouldn’t it make more sense to hire a GM first and let them be involved in the hiring of the coach? Seems like they’re asking for a power struggle a year or two from now

  2. Wouldnt it make more sense to have this hiring barrage to start after the Super Bowl? Players cant even interact until after the draft or whatnot per the CBA.

  3. “Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that they have requested an interview with Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that they have also requested an interview with Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.”

Is this considered tampering since those two candidates are still coaching in the playoffs? Or is that only if a proper interview is actually conducted? I can’t keep up with the NFL’s explanations of anything anymore.

  4. Why do they keep recycling these guys. If he failed with one team why do these owners think he’ll be successful with another? Their ego, thats why. I can’t believe Old Jim Caldwell is still in the mix with some of these teams after two previous failures.

Bellichek and Pete Carroll failed miserably at their first HC jobs. Then, turned it around.

  6. That old saw about the acorn not falling far from the mighty oak?
Totally disproved by the McCaskey family.

  7. To those that mention “recycling” old coaches, I agree one the one’s that have bounced around five times in different coaching roles….at some point, get some new people in there!
