The Giants won’t get to work on hiring their next head coach until they’ve hired their next general manager.

Giants owner John Mara said in a statement that the process will begin with finding a new G.M. to replace the “retired” Dave Gettleman, and then the G.M. will be in charge over finding the next head coach to replace the fired Joe Judge.

“We will hire a general manager and that person will lead the effort to hire a new head coach,” Mara said.

Mara acknowledged in his announcement of Judge’s firing that the franchise his family has run since 1925 is not heading in the right direction.

“I said before the season started that I wanted to feel good about the direction we were headed when we played our last game of the season. Unfortunately, I cannot make that statement, which is why we have made this decision,” Mara said.

The Giants haven’t had a reason to feel good about the direction of the franchise in a long time. The next G.M. and coach will be tasked with changing that.

  1. Translation: “We couldn’t find a GM candidate that wanted to work with Joe Judge”

  2. It will be interesting to see if they bring in a GM that holds no ties to the organization or if they hire from within. If they hire from within you can expect another coaching search in two years. If they bring in an external set of eye’s and allow that individual to run the show we might be talking about hidden gems and talent that is currently on the roster.

  3. Start by getting some good players that are available on game day. Even Lombardi would have had a losing season with this collection of players. Now take a tough guy clown like Judge and you have something real special.

  4. The Giants keep on hiring old school disciplinarians. That was okay when it was Parcells, but it doesn’t work in today’s NFL.

talk about a clown show. the nightmara syndicate should be forced to sell by the league

Actually, clown shows do have a purpose. They are entertainment and wins for other teams.

  6. So which coaching tree are the Giants going to pick from this time. The Chiefs? The Packer? The Bucs?

  7. They’ve requested a ton of interviews and they’re all under 50 I believe. This alone makes me cautiously optimistic.
