Jonathan Gannon is only in his first season as a defensive coordinator, but his work with the Eagles has landed him on the Broncos’ list of head coaching candidates.

Gannon confirmed that the Broncos have requested an interview with him for the vacancy created by Vic Fangio’s firing over the weekend. He also said, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, that his “sole focus is on Tampa Bay” this week.

It’s the first interest any team has shown in Gannon this hiring cycle.

Broncos General Manager George Paton worked for the Vikings before coming to Denver ahead of the 2021 season and he worked with Gannon while in Minnesota. Gannon was an assistant defensive backs coach with the team for four years before moving on to the Colts in 2018.

The Eagles defense had a rocky start to the season, but looked much better as the team made a run to the postseason over the second half of the year.

  1. Ok Eagles fan here….defense is OK but not worthy of the Jonathan being ready for a HC job

  2. Definitely not ready – that defense is not as good as we are told – but then again, that team desperately needs an NFL caliber QB instead one that runs so much – just another gutless running back wearing a QB halloween costume.

  3. As an Eagles fan, this surprises me. The Eagles defense was horrible against quality quarterbacks. They are the only team in NFL HISTORY to allow 4 different quarterbacks to complete over 80 percent of their passes in a single season. And they did that by week 9!

Overall, they allowed a league high 69% completion percentage and it’s only that low because they got to play against quarterbacks named Jake Fromm, Mike Glennon, Garrett Gilbert, Trevor Siemian & Daniel Jones!

  4. As an eagles fan, the defense looks good when the QB is a covid reserve player. Otherwise it’s been pretty bad. D line was okay, LB and secondary were terrible to watch.

  5. I think if you are willing to hire Gannon for a head coaching position, you obviously have head problems already.

Let me rephrase this actually. Any GM even thinking of hiring Gannon should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT PAUSE.

The man started like 7 games in the prevent defense and stayed with it all 4 quarters as we lost the games
