As the Panthers stress a need to fix their offensive line, they’ll have a new coach for the unit in 2022.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Carolina has fired offensive line coach Pat Meyer, defensive line coach Frank Okam, and special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn.

Meyer came to the Panthers after three seasons as the Chargers’ offensive line coach/run game coordinator. He also has spent time with the Bears and Bills.

Blackburn was a holdover from Ron Rivera’s previous staff with Carolina, as he was the assistant special teams coach from 2016-2017 before ascending to special teams coordinator in 2018. Blackburn played for the Panthers for two years after spending much of his playing career with the Giants.

Okam came from Rhule’s staff at Baylor where he was the defensive line coach from 2018-2019. He was the assistant DL coach in 2020 before being promoted in 2021.

  1. Think that can sometimes get lost in the shuffle of coaching changes. Assistants get replaced frequently and one of the guys followed Rhule from Baylor. Has to be kind of tough to fire a friend. But it’s a production business.

  2. When you come to the NFL from college, it’s almost impossible to put together the perfect staff the first year. It’s not like you can just pluck all the perfect coaches away from their current jobs, and most assistant coaches are under contract.

  3. Like this will fix the fact Matt Rhule is in way over his head. Since he got there they have gotten worse. Fire Rhule if you want to improve and don’t give the next coach a seven year deal.

  4. Who is he going to get to fill those positions? He’s firing everyone else to try to save his own neck. That doesn’t generate trust from assistants. Besides, Rhule will be fired next year and they’ll clean house. Stay away from that job. They might be better off taking $15/hour to coach with the Bears.

  5. When is the NFL going to learn? The media darling head coaches rarely work out. But they’re going to hire 5 media darling head coaches this year who all will be fired in 2-3 years.

  6. in the past two years Matt Rhule has become a 9th degree black belt in convincing the Panthers Org, it’s everyone’s fault but his.

  7. Sure that will solve not having a legit QB. Rhule found some fall guys I guess he cant fire himself right??

  8. The blow nard head coach needs to look in the mirror and say your fired, the owner is just not smart.

  9. Matt Rhule should be fired right along with them. He is a terrible coach and should not have been retained. Panthers fans will boycott this team due to Tepper’s lack of any clue on how to run an NFL franchise.
