The Steelers could get an unexpected boost at receiver for a playoff run.

Pittsburgh announced that JuJu Smith-Schuster has been designated to return from injured reserve and will practice on Thursday.

Smith-Schuster was expected to miss the rest of the 2021 season after undergoing shoulder surgery in October. The receiver admitted he cried all night after learning how long he was to be out.

But now Smith-Schuster has recovered enough to be back on the field. He signed a one-year, $8 million deal to return to Pittsburgh in the 2021 offseason after spending his first four years with the club. Smith-Schuster caught 15 passes for 129 yards in five games before suffering the shoulder injury against the Broncos on Oct. 10.

The Steelers have 21 days to activate Smith-Schuster off of IR if they continue to advance.

Pittsburgh has also activated receiver James Washington off the COVID-19 list after he missed the regular-season finale against Baltimore.

  1. In related news, they have activated Hines Ward to single handedly block all of the Chief’s linebackers and safeties.

  2. I hope he doesn’t re-injure the shoulder when he spins the ball after a 6 yard pickup on 2nd&10.

  3. He is one of Ben’s favorite targets for the 4 yard slants that Ben has relied on lately. JuJu can turn those into 15yds. Could be somethjng of an X-factor assuming he can take a hit. Also, I’m sure he wants to show he is healthy so he can get a better contract as a FA

  4. Seems like someone is jealous of JuJu’s fame…..eh? Would love to see him in a second playoff game…..but not holding out for that.

  5. Not sure his shoulder is really fake ready but good news overall for him personally.

Do you insert him and upset any chemistry the other guys have had in the last month, I dunno? He wasn’t setting the world on fire in 2021 anyhow, 5 games…15 catches….129 yds 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d rather see the other guys play.

  6. Screen pass/dump off game for Ben. Chiefs front line and LB’s are going to make his last game hell.

  7. Thought we’d seen the last of him in three-color hypocycloid logo helmets of the Steelers.

Hope he has a great game and raises his UFA stock. He rolled the dice on signing a one year deal for 2021 and, crap, he came up craps.

  8. If he is healthy enough to play, he should get a helmet and play. He’s still the Steelers best overall receiver. He plays every position and runs every route. He gets extra yards like a tight end. He has by far the best hands on the team. It’s as much a condemnation of the other receivers than any statement about Juju’s greatness, but he would immediately help this offense.

  9. I hope he does play and plays well. Will it tip the scale? Eh. KC still runs away with it.
