Bengals have gone 31 years without a playoff win, longer than any other NFL team

If the Bengals beat the Raiders today, they’ll end the NFL’s longest drought without a postseason win.

The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since they beat the Houston Oilers 41-14 on January 6, 1991. Boomer Esiason threw for two touchdowns and Ickey Woods ran for a touchdown. That was just over 31 years ago. That’s the longest active drought without a playoff win in the league.

A week after beating the Oilers, the Bengals lost to the Raiders in a game best remembered as the last football game Bo Jackson ever played. The Bengals have played in seven playoff games since then but have lost them all.

If the Bengals win today, the Lions will hold the distinction of having the longest drought without a playoff win. The Lions’ last postseason win was over the Cowboys on January 5, 1992.

  1. Funny what a QB can do. Prior to last year it had been 18 years since Tampa Bay was in the playoffs.

  2. And if the Bengals win today my Dolphins will have the second longest playoff drought dating back to 2000.
    Thanks Mr Ross!

  3. What’s wild is that same team– with the same QB and head coach and with mostly the same personnel– went 3-13 the next season.

  4. As long as the raiders have waited at least they came off of a super bowl loss. I’m sorry Vegas, it’s the Bengals time. You’ve had a good season and played great the past month but this streak ends today. Who Dey!!

  5. Funny what a QB can do. Prior to last year it had been 18 years since Tampa Bay was in the playoffs.
    —————–
last was 2008 and they were knocked off by the giants

  6. Nobody has ever gotten a text message about a Bengals playoff win. Last win 1991, first text message 1992.

  7. No one in the world has ever sent a text message on their cell phone about the Bengals winning a playoff game. The first text message ever sent was on December 3rd, 1992. Last time Bengals won a playoff game was January 6th, 1991.

  8. So, the Bengals have averaged around one playoff appearance every four and a half years since the last time they won a playoff game. Those are some loyal fans!

  9. Mark Davis can’t wait to hire Jim Harbaugh. I wonder how much he even wants to win today.

  10. I don’t think a lot of people so confident in a Bengals win actually watched the first game. Mind you, this is right after Ruggs nearly completely derailed their season, but it was a three point game going into the fourth quarter, and they shut that offense down. The playoffs are about match-ups. It’s already hard enough to beat one team twice, let alone when the other team is your equal. Zac Taylor also is not a very good coach. Raiders will win this game going away.

  11. You just gotta love Joe he’s so talented and a great young man everything a MVP should be .
