Bucs favored by 3 over Rams, all four home teams favored in divisional round

After the Rams beat the Cardinals on Monday night, they opened as underdogs for Sunday’s divisional round game at Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers initially opened as 2.5-point favorites and quickly moved to 3-point favorites over the Rams at most sports books. Bettors are showing faith in the Bucs even though the Rams won 34-24 when the teams met in the regular season.

The NFC No. 1 seed Packers are the biggest favorites next weekend, with a line of 5.5 over the 49ers on Saturday at Lambeau Field.

The AFC No. 1 seed Titans are 3.5-point favorites over the Bengals. That’s the smallest point spread the No. 1 seed has had in its divisional round game since the 2017 Eagles were 2.5-point favorites — and that was because the Eagles had lost their starting quarterback, Carson Wentz, and few expected Nick Foles to lead them to the Super Bowl.

In the final game of the divisional round, the Chiefs are 2.5-point favorites over the Bills, despite the Bills winning 38-20 at Kansas City when the teams met in the regular season.

All four home teams are favored in the divisional round.

  1. Bucs by 17, the GOAT will get his revenge in the game that matters, and at home this time I think Tampa takes it

  2. I would’ve preferred the Rams vs Bucs been the Sunday night prime time game but whatever, now I get to see the long suffering student (Stafford) try to defeat his master (Brady) a few hours earlier.

    Should be an instant classic.

  3. Here’s hoping for some more competitive and entertaining playoff games this weekend.
Out of six last weekend there was one good game.

  4. I am just happy that the teams which had no business being in the playoffs — the Pats, the Eagles, the Cowboys, and the Cards — are all gone.
Adding more wild card games is another wrong move by the NFL. Anyone who stayed past half time in any of those games those teams were involved in is a glutton for punishment. The only reason the Cowboys were in their game at the end is because the Niners tried to hand them the game.
Let’s hope next weekend’s games are better than those games were.
And btw — if anyone is interested, the Vikings players will be playing golf this weekend.

  5. Whether it be the Rams, the Bucs, The Bengals, The Titans, etc. favored doesn’t mean zilch. Teams going in as an underdog tend to play a lot harder, and that’s a fact.

  6. I don’t gamble on football simply b/c the poor quality of the officiating makes gambling on the NFL the equivalent of driving down the street and throwing your cash out the window, but (for recreational purposes only!)I think the closest thing to a lock this weekend is Cincy over the Titans -the Titans D is ok, but Tennessee can’t score a lot of points, and if the Bengals can protect Burrow he is going to light it up vs Tennessee

  7. Bills are a better team now than when they beat the Chiefs in the regular season…and so aren’t the Chiefs. Should be a barn burner!

  8. Seems like the Niners will be written off by most for the divisional round but I think it’ll be a lot better game than people expect. Niners are playing much better football than they were the first time the two teams played early in the season. I know Rodgers is having an MVP type year. We’ll see what happens.

  9. Why wouldn’t they be? They’re at home, and will have two extra days of rest over the Rams (played 1.5 days earlier) and don’t have to travel. The NFL again put ratings above fairness amongst teams.

  10. Everyone knows Brady can’t win without an elite kicker, elite coaching, elite defensive play, the other team messing up, or cheating.

Rams by at least two scores.

  11. Rams offense looked sloppy at times. Good thing AZ stunk the place up. The Bucs will be ready. If the Rams pass d can get to Brady, then they have a good chance, this isnt as good a defense as last year.

  12. Packers have everyone back now, no excuses for the 9ers running them over and passing into wide open spaces. The pack have the worst pass defense in football and will be done for the year after Saturday. Rodgers will have to assess if he wants to come back to this fiasco again and get embarassed.

  13. I know who I’d bet on if Aaron Donald is matched up against a backup center, and Von Miller can tee off on a backup tackle.

  14. I could see both NFC home teams getting upset, especially if the Rams play like they did last night.

  15. I have to agree the SUPER wild card matchup was a ANYTHING but. Get rid of those 7 seeds.

  16. Even with all the Bucs injuries? The Rams already beat the Bucs when the Bucs were healthier and Brady with his weapons. Now the Bucs are depleted. Hopefully the Bucs can conjure a game plan that will at least protect Brady. He can’t throw if he’s planted on the ground.

  17. We saw what Mahomes looked like in the Super Bowl with injuries up front.

And now Cheatin’ Tom has to face Aaron Donald and Von Miller with injuries up front.

    Good luck with that.

  18. With that pitiful defense, the Packers don’t stand a chance. 49r’s 38, Packers 10.

  19. Let’s see how the refs/NFL set it up for Pretty Boy Brady to advance again when they shouldn’t.

  20. I do think the 49’s have a chance because GB defense isn’t that good and their special teams are sure to screw something up.

  21. The pack have the worst pass defense in football and will be done for the year after Saturday.

    ????

They’re 10th in passing yards, 6th in INTs, middle of the road in sacks and yards/pass.

I agree with this. Go back to 6 playoff teams per conference and put the bye back for the 2 seed. Neither 7 seed game was competitive. The Patriots weren’t competitive either but at least they would have made it under the old format.

Sadly we’ll probably go to an NBA format soon with 8 teams per conference and the top seed losing their bye because $$$$

  23. All I know is that the Board of Directors for State Farm are doing whatever can be done to influence the fates to get a Chiefs v Packers SB.

  24. Not much respect for the Titans. I get it – Bengals are sexy, and everyone suffers from recency bias. I hear the Bengals and Joey B are high-powered and the Titans are low-scoring. Both things seem true, yet the Bengals have only averaged 2 points a game more than the Titans.

Titans D has gone from historically bad to pretty good. All of the remaining teams are good, and any team could win any game, but I thought I would share a few nuggets about the Titans.

Titans defeated more teams with winning records than any team in NFL history.
Titans have a 3-0 record against the remaining playoff field (beat KC, Buffalo, SF)
Titans are the healthiest they have been all year.
First time healthy Henry, AJ, and Julio have played together. (Julio was only right for about 10 minutes during the season and Henry missed half of it).
    Return of the King

I predict that Titans will come out throwing.

And yes, either team could win this game, but gosh, could we get just a little respect around here?

Tannehill’s results and rating are better than his reputation

  25. So many here writing the Chiefs off, but that’s ok. BTW, you do realize that they haven’t lost a home playoff game since 2018, right? Dismiss them at your peril.

  26. Yep I see a rams win. The saints defence that owns them is very similar to the Rams. The fronts of both are similar. The back half is not the same but neither are Brady’s weapons.

Pressure up the middle kills Brady.

Just gotta work on that Stafford turnover thing.

I am not predicting the game, however, saying the Packers have the worst pass defense in football is an indication that you are not paying attention to reality. How did they get the 1 seed if they had ‘the worst pass defense’? Asking for a friend.

I’m laughing at this. The Packers have the 2nd best track record in the NFL since 1992 and you’re saying they are a “fiasco”. There are 31 other teams who wish their track record was as good as the Packers’ has been.
As for your comment about the Packers secondary being the worst in football — that’s another laughable comment. They played all year without their best pass rusher (Za’Darius Smith) and their best cornerback (Zaire Alexander) and still had a very good secondary. Those two guys are back now and the secondary will only be better because they are.
Here’s a fact. This Packers team is better than the one which went to the NFC Championship game the last two years. The reasons are A.J. Dillon, De’Vondre Campbell, Joe Barry (their defensive coordinator) and way more depth than they’ve had in quite a while. They had 4 back up offensive linemen playing most of the year and their #3 left tackle because David Bahktiari (one of the best LT’s in the game) was out all year. But guess what? He’s back now, too. So is their starting center and a few other guys.
I hope the Bucs, Rams, and 49’ers are all dismissing the Packers as you are. If they are, it will be a big mistake.

  29. Boggles my mind so many people keep doubting the 49ers. They are have the best offensive and defensive line out of all the playoff teams and a top 3 defense.

  30. People complaining about the 7th seed fiasco. The Cards were a 5th seed… The bigger problem is giving a bye to one team in each conference. Those byes, BTW, go to the first place team in the weakest division in each conference. An NFC West team has no hope of earning a round 1 bye in the near future. That will be going to the Packers until Aaron Rogers leaves.

  31. The cold is overrated. It’s more about which team is playing their best football at that time. Several teams have went into Green Bay in recent years and won when its cold. This includes the Bucs (2020), 49ers (2013), Giants (2007), Vikings (2004) and Falcons (2002).

If anything, I think the cold would hurt the Packers and their passing game. You are more likely to see a grind it out type of game running the ball.

  32. The greatest advantage the Buccaneers have and what might be driving the line higher is that the Rams don’t have any safeties. Oh, sure, they’ll put two players in the safeties’ positions, but one they just coaxed out of retirement and the other is a second-stringer. This will create a giant, exploitable hole in the middle of the field. Tom Brady is salivating.

Yea, it was the refs/NFL that decided to do a QB draw with 14 seconds left and zero time outs.

It was the ref/NFL that didn’t know you can’t give the ball to your center and have him spot it.

When the QB fails blame someone else

  34. I mean who in their right minds would even consider putting any money on any team the way officiating is these days?!?!?

  35. I hope everyone bets against Brady and the Bucs again this season. Even with all the injuries they have, when they repeat with their current roster, what will your excuses be then? No competition? The refs? Rodgers choking? What will it be?

  36. I’m a Bucs fan and if I was a gambler I would take the Rams, especially if Tristan plays banged up or doesn’t play, Rams DL is nasty.

  37. Who I’d like to see win: Bucs, 49ers, Bills, Bengals. Who I think will win: Bucs, Packers, Titans, Chiefs.

  38. If anything, I think the cold would hurt the Packers and their passing game. You are more likely to see a grind it out type of game running the ball.

The Rams had the same safeties in the week 3 meeting when the Rams were beating them 34-17 until the Bucs got a garbage time touchdown with a minute left. If Brady is going to focus on the Bucs safeties and ignore Donald, Miller, Young, etc. then it’s going to be a long day. Gronk will be left to help the o-line block, which means that the only viable pass catcher for Brady will be Evans, who will be covered by Ramsey.

  40. Remember that home team gets that -3 points. So when home team is only 2.5, or 3 they are underdogs or even. Hell, even 3.5 is the slightest of favourite. I wouldn’t touch these games unless there was a gun to my head.

As a Patriots’ fan I don’t wish that at all. The Packers have gone to and win 2 SBs in that timeframe. The Pats have gone to 11 and won 6.

From where I stand, the Packers have been pretty mediocre

  42. “I am just happy that the teams which had no business being in the playoffs — the Pats, the Eagles, the Cowboys, and the Cards — are all gone.”

Even if we went back to the 12-team playoff system, only Pittsburgh and Philly would have missed the playoffs. The Pats, Cowboys and Cards would still have been in it to stink up the joint.

  43. “This Packers team is better than the one which went to the NFC Championship game the last two years.”

They better be better since they lost both of those NFC Championships.

  44. Bucs are at home. They are 8-1 at home. That week 3 game was away and defensive secondary was depleted. The Bucs are a different team at home. Brady has won 36 playoff games, Stafford has won one. Rams also traveling across country on a short week.

The Bucs have some injury issues on offense to deal with, but the defense is finally healthy for the first time all year.

Also, the Bucs are not the Cardinals. I guarantee you this game will be FAR more competitive than last night. Cards we’re on a downward slide losing 4 of their last 5. Tampa is not on a slide.

  45. The Rams DL is built to attack QBs. That’s why Kyler Murray was not able to take advantage of our depleted secondary last night. Hitting Brady is how you minimize his ability to control a game.

The Packers should not take the Niners for granted. The 12th man in that game will be the cold.

I like the Bills over the Chiefs and the Titans over the Bengals.

  46. The 49ers will take it easily, with a great power-running offense and great defense, keys to winning cold-weather games. You heard it here.

  47. Dear L.A. Rams,
PLEASE let Tom Brady win this weekend! I have a Wi-Fi, and two little calculators at home!
    Sincerely,
    Microsoft Tablet

  48. Stafford is going to get worked, the guy will throw INTs and fumble the ball under pressure.

    just wait, it’s coming….

  49. While all home teams may be favored, all games are basically a toss up! And a pick em!!

Looking forward to a very good competitive close football games unlike this weekend where most of the games were decided way early into the game…..

  50. The Rams DL is built to attack QBs. That’s why Kyler Murray was not able to take advantage of our depleted secondary last night. Hitting Brady is how you minimize his ability to control a game……………..Agreed but so is the Bucs D Line and supposedly the Eagles had the best rushing attack in the NFL and Hurts is a better runner than Stafford…..Brady at home in the Playoffs………I wouldn’t bet against him….

Ok, so the previous comment should have been 30 teams and not 31 but one of the two SB wins was against the Patriots.. Packers are consistently in the playoffs, which at least gives them a chance at the LOMBARDI trophy. Obviously, one could argue they should have won more but mediocre is a stretch.

Rams are on the road. They are 7-2 on the road.

  54. Bet on best QB to win… Burrow leads Bengals, Brady leads Bucs, Rodgers leads Packers and in the closest one, Mahomes leads Chiefs

  55. If you think the Rams pass rush will show up, then I’d take the under. Brady has historically not done great when he’s pressured by a good pass rush.

  56. The Rams have a great QB. Great pass rush. Great receievers, great coaching, great run game. Plus, the Rams a LOT of players on their team who have been deep in the playoffs, even winning Super Bowls.

So do the Bucs. Bucs 34, Rams 31. Long flight back to LA.

  57. Sure the Rams beat the Bucs in Game 2 in LA, but really didn’t beat another winning team during the regular season other than the Cards once and the Colts, right? Yeah, they wallped the Bears, Texans, Jags, Lions, etc. Looks to me like they won their division because the Cardinals wanted it less. So sure, take a good game on the 3,000 mile flight to Tampa on a short week. They can even bring Donald if he’s not in a much-deserved “time out.” Brady is the master, and the Bucs D will likely feast on Stafford (JPP, Suh, Vea, Tryon, Barrett…even Nelson, Goulston, and Nacho).

  58. The Rams had the same safeties in the week 3 meeting when the Rams were beating them 34-17 until the Bucs got a garbage time touchdown with a minute left. Incorrect, please know what you are talking about before posting a comment!! It’s embarrassing!! Weddle did not play against Tampa in week 3! And who cares what happened in week 3? I seem to recall Tampa getting beat badly by kc last year in the regular season,!!!! And remind me again who won when they met in the super bowl???
