49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans’ week isn’t going to be solely devoted to preparing for Saturday night’s game in Green Bay.

Albert Breer of SI.com reports that Ryans will interview with the Vikings for their head coaching job on Wednesday. The interview will take place remotely.

Ryans spent three years as the 49ers’ inside linebackers coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator after Robert Saleh left to become the Jets’ head coach last year. The 49ers ranked ninth in points allowed and third in yards allowed with Ryans at the helm this season.

The Vikings have interviewed Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and are scheduled to interview Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles this week. The team is also searching for a new General Manager and interviewing candidates for that position.

  1. I’ve heard Ryans is a great leader so I’m interested in him but the important thing is that he isn’t distracted from beating the Packers.

  2. Did not even know DeMeco was still in the NFL… Roll Tide!
Best of luck to him in the future!

Ugh. Completely wrong way of thinking. The season is 17 games long. It would be just fine to go 15-2 and lose to the Packers twice every year.

  4. I am surprisingly encouraged by the number of good candidates they are interviewing. Honestly don’t know who my choice would be. But I do think they should go with an offense minded coach. I was all in on Pederson & Daboll, but Hackett is looking better and better the more I read up on him.

  5. This is good. Always seems like the hot coordinator candidates don’t pan out and its the ones that are on the fringes that hit it big.

Give me Ryans, McDaniels or evem Thomas Brown from the Rams over Kellen Moore, Leftwhich or any of the retreads.

  6. The Vikings modus operandi has always been to copy whatever the Packers are doing, but they try very hard to disguise their efforts so they never have to say aloud they’re copying the Packers.

  7. I’m just glad the Vikings leave no stone unturned approach distracts the attention of the Packer playoff opponent’s DC.
