Mike Vrabel on Ryan Tannehill’s performance: “It’s never gonna be about one person”

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw three interceptions in Saturday’s loss to the Bengals. After the game, coach Mike Vrabel was asked about Tannehill’s performance.

“Well I don’t think Ryan or myself of anybody did enough to win the game,” Vrabel told reporters after the 19-16 loss. “That’s how it goes. It’s never gonna be about one person, not as long as I’m the head coach. Which will be a while.”

Vrabel may be the coach for a while. But Tannehill may not be the quarterback, not if he keeps playing like he did tonight. If he doesn’t throw three interceptions, the Titans not the Bengals would be advancing to the AFC Championship.

  1. Tanahill will not get you to the promise land in Tennessee. He is above avg but not elite. I feel bad for the Tennessee fans.

  2. Two of the picks were tipped passes off receivers hands but sure it’s all on Tannehill

  3. Sure hope KC learned something from this game. DON’T bench your hot RB just because your #1 says he’s healthy. Henry was a non-factor, they would have been better off leaving him on IR.

  4. People trying to defend Tannehill because of “tipped passes”, he threw that last INT into double coverage. It was a bad pass that should have never been thrown. The fact it was tipped is irrelevant.

  5. To be running the ball the way the Titans were in the second half, there’s no excuse for the way Tannehill played. Literally he a game manager. Take the throws they are there. Don’t turn it over. If you run for 140 yards and get 9 sacks and lose, your qb flat out sucks

  6. A Tennessee team that lost King Henry for 10 games, Julio Jones for 8 games, and AJ Brown for 4 games while breaking in a new OC earned the #1 seed largely because Tannehill kept the offense from collapsing.

Titan fans want to get rid of this guy after 15 years of Vince Young, Kerry Collins, and old version of Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Locker, Zach Mettenberger, Clipboard Jesus, and the regression of Marcus Mariota.

Didn’t play well today obviously, but geez. Tough crowd.

  7. Titans should have taken a 3 points lead instead of trying that 4 and 1 late in Q4. Their defensive line were killing the Bengals so why not trust the defense to hold the lead? Tannehill choked with interceptions on his 1st and last pass attempt; in the end, the Titans won as many playoffs games as the rest of the AFC South teams combined: zero.

  8. Hated the last Titans play. Forced it. Can’t get intercepted at 50yd line with 20s to go and game tied.

  9. Tannehill should not have thrown that last pass into double coverage. In Miami, he always used to get his ball tipped at the line of scrimmage. He’s not the QB that will take any team to the super bowl, not even when he has been supplied the talent to win.

  10. That’s the Tannehill we know. Tippe balls, take sacks, and interceptions. We have seen this before.

  11. A little Tannehill bashing going on here you put the ball in the receivers hands and it get’s intercepted that’s not on him.

  12. Except it has been for you and undeserved millions upon millions for no real reason other than mediocrity.

It was ALWAYS about Henry making you look good. And then, when he’s not there, you can’t function.

    FACT

As a Jets fan, I am surprised you can see this. And, Mac Jones doesn’t need an All World RB and doesn’t cost 35 million per year.

Enjoy, Zach Wilson and his boy body and many injuries to come.

  14. The Titans lost this game when they couldn’t get one yard with Derek Henry in the backfield

  15. Tannehill is himself. Just been hiding behind a good running back. Jones is way past done. Henry was not full go. Yet they didn’t pull him for a more productive game plan. The D played huge. This definitely is about one person. Coach I’m looking at you.

  16. Tennessee had a great year. Can’t blame Tannehill on all 3 picks (1 for sure, maybe 2) any more than Burrow can be blamed for his pick. 3rd down conversions is where the game was lost. Play calling or execution?

  17. There is no way the Titans’ head coach should be coach of the year – this game proves his team was all hype.

  18. Vrabel deserves the most blame. Kick the extra point and don’t turtle on 3rd and 1,then 4th and 1. 2 of those picks bounced off receivers.

  20. Did anyone really think TN was the #1 team in the AFC? Everyone is on KC and Buff but Cinci is still in the party, and looking to crash everyone’s expectations.

It’s just too bad another BB defense hung Mac out to dry. 7 positions and 7 straight TDs? Yikes….they were putrid

  22. If the ball touches both hands of the receiver, it’s not the QBs fault at all if it’s intercepted!

  23. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Obviously TN could have one thins game, but screwed up a lot of small things and capped it off with an unforgivable INT at the end.

  24. It wasn’t just the interceptions. Tennehill was off target quite a bit right from the start. He was throwing behind the receiver and the play calling was atrocious

  25. Hey Pats fans: Mac Jones>Tannehill but….. <Burrow,Jackson,Herbert,Carr,Watson, maybe Tua, and Lawrence. And that's only the AFC. Good luck w/ your savior.

  26. Tannehill’s play was horrible and the most visible issue. However, I didn’t like the play calling in general and thought that the Titans should have used Foreman as the starter and Henry (who was coming off injury) in spot situations.

Tannehill was throwing into coverage and had made some pretty poor decisions. Still, I don’t think he is going anywhere, unless the Titans can land a veteran QB with a proven track record.

Mac Jones has only played one season and has been pretty much game managed. I think it is too soon to tell how good he will be. He doesn't have the strongest arm, but perhaps that will improve over time.

Tannehill has all of the tools to play QB, but his decision making process is lacking.

  28. How about this for QB evaluation? Mac Davis< Allen,Herbert,Carr,Mahomes,Burrow,Jackson,TLawrence, maybe even Tua.

And that's only the AFC. Good luck w/ being the savior, Mac.
