49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has a tough job of stopping quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense on Saturday. But he also is a candidate for a new role in a couple of places.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ryans is slated to interview with the Vikings on Sunday and the Raiders plan to interview him as well.

Ryans was reportedly slated to meet with the Vikings earlier in the week. But Minnesota did not announce that the organization had completed an interview with him.

He is the third known candidate for the Raiders’ job, joining Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.

After playing in the league from 2006-2015, Ryans joined the 49ers staff as a defensive quality control coach in 2017. He was the team’s inside linebackers coach from 2018-2020 and became the defensive coordinator in 2021.

  1. Can we seriously stop having all of these playoff coaches poached on DURING the playoffs? It’s not their teams fault that these other teams are incompetent and don’t hire the right people year after year.

  2. I wonder how many teams that are looking for a coach will wanted to talk to him after Saturday night. After AR AND PACKERS put up 45 points on his defensive.

  3. Hiring interim head coaches to be permanent head coaches almost never works out. Just because a team responded to him mid season doesn’t forecast future success. I don’t even know if you want to maintain continuity with what the Raiders got going on. It’s not like they have been perennial championship contenders and you don’t want someone to come in there and rock the boat, No, that team needs some straightening’

  4. Why is McCown a joke of a HC candidate when he served, essentially, as a QB coach but Mayo is considered a serious candidate when he has served as a position coach (ILBs) as well? I’m not saying that McCown should be a serious candidate so much as wondering why Mayo is when both men have been position coaches instead of coordinators. Ryans, in contrast, is a DC and has shown that he can run an entire unit which seems to be the main prerequisite for being the HC overseeing all 3 units.

  5. the Texans need to interview DeMeco…he was a 2nd round pick (1st in the 2nd round IIRC) out of Bama by the Texans…was a great player for them until an achilles derailed his playing career. In college DeMeco became the first football player to ever earn the prestigious award (name escapes me now) for athleticism, academics and altruism…he’s a smart guy, a first class guy, knows the game, is a leader…no reason the Texans shouldn’t be interviewing this guy.
