Kelly Stafford: Ndamukong Suh really dislikes Matthew, and we don’t know why

Former Lions teammates Ndamukong Suh and Matthew Stafford were involved in an altercation on Sunday when Suh was flagged for taunting Stafford after accusing Stafford of kicking him. Now Stafford’s wife has weighed in on the matter and said that Suh is the only player in the NFL who has a problem with Stafford.

“I feel like he’s the only player in this league who really dislikes Matthew and we don’t know why. We legit don’t know why,” Kelly Stafford said on her podcast, via the Detroit Free Press. “Now he can actually dislike him for a fricking reason. I thoroughly enjoyed it and that’s all I’m gonna say. I wish Suh the best, I really do. His family is always so kind. But come on dude, ya’ll were teammates at one point. That really bothered me. . . . I just don’t get it, it disappoints me in a way with Suh. Maybe we’ll figure out, maybe there’s a reason and he’ll let us know, but Matthew doesn’t really seem to care. Just me, of course.”

Stafford got the last laugh when he threw the last pass of the game to Cooper Kupp to get the Rams into field goal range to beat the Buccanners on the final play. Suh was rushing and hit Stafford just as Stafford threw the pass. Kelly Stafford gave her thoughts on the taunting penalty and the final pass.

“I realize it’s Suh and I’m like ‘huh, this is interesting.’ And he’s in Matthew’s face saying, ‘I’m gonna [expletive] you up, I’m gonna [expletive] you up.’ Those were his words. And to be honest, if I was Matthew, I’d be like ‘I’m [expletive] terrified ’cause you are a monster and you could really do some harm,'” Kelly Stafford said. “Obviously, when I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh F you Suh. Like what is wrong, relax dude, it’s football.’ And I have no idea what just triggered that. So then I asked Matthew last night and he was like, ‘honestly, I don’t really know what happened. I didn’t really know who tackled me. But I remember getting put to the ground and someone on me and got him off me to try to get to the next play, and then Suh was in my face telling me he was going to [expletive] me up.'”

Kelly Stafford was pleased to see the Rams get the win.

“I’m trying to give some grace here and not get very upset about the massive man threatening my husband,” she said. “But at the same time, are you kidding? What are you doing? . . . It’s water under the bridge now, Matthew could care less. But I just want to point out one thing: The best way to say ‘F you’ to someone without having to actually say it is to throw a dime right in their face at a zero all-out blitz right as he’s coming for you. And you throw it right as he hits you and it hits Cooper right in the hands, and your kicker kicks a game-winning field goal. . . . Matthew has done very good against an all-out blitz all year, so it was a very interesting call. So he saw it coming and just waited until Suh got as close as he could and just launched it right in his face. . . . Sometimes, you gotta shut them up with your play. You don’t have to say anything. You don’t have to do anything. . . . Matthew could care less, but I loved, I loved watching him throw that ball right in Suh’s face.”

Suh and Stafford were teammates on the Lions for five seasons.

  1. I feel like Kelly Stafford sure likes to share her opinion a lot. I don’t hear too many other players wives chiming in nearly as often as she does.

  2. Suh can be such a good player. HoF potential, that said, he seems to have a mean streak that is not just about winning the game.
I like Suh, just don’t understand it.

  3. I don’t always agree with her takes (particularly during the pre-vaccine phase of the pandemic), but she’s spot on about winning being the best revenge.

  4. Maybe it because your husband likes to kick defensive linemen? I think you should start with that reason.

  5. Look at the play, Stafford tried to cleat Suh in the private parts. Clear as day. What was he suppose to do and or say to him? Suh’s reaction is what 99% of all NFL defensive would do. Can you imagine Aaron Donald or John Bosa reaction? The same…

  6. I’m with her on this from everything I saw in the game. I wish my wife defended me the way she does her husband!

  7. I believe there’s a perception that Matthew didn’t give it everything he’s got in his early years with the Lions.
To a guy like Suh that would be a hard pill to swallow, as he is relentless in his approach to preparation.

  8. Whether or intentional or not, it looked like Matt Stafford’s foot ended up hitting Suh in the crotch on that play. So, I think it’s dumb to say “we legit don’t know why…” I’d be hot if someone kicked me in the crotch.

I just hope the irony isn’t lost on Suh, considering he’s such a dirty player…

  9. I wonder what might cause him to “care less” since he “could”.

Everyone has their right to their opinion.
Suddenly in a world of my body my choice, or lying about being vaxxed, we have an issue with a person stating her opinion.

  11. I think Suh on the football field does not like anyone…heck…he would probably destroy Brady in practice if they let him!

So it’s not really personal Kelly… it’s called Football!

I’m sure Aaron Donald when he was throwing Brady to the ground like a ragdoll wasn’t exactly ushering sweet words into his hears!

    Unreal…

  12. For Stafford to throw that game winning dime with Suh about to hit him couldn’t have been any sweeter. Happy for Stafford to help win the game. Maybe Suh is an a-hole.

  13. Suh plays with anger and aggression towards ALL opposing QBs, so I’m not sure this was anything special towards Stafford other than maybe knowing how to get into his head. The Bucs D rallied and kept their offense in the game until the late catch given up to Kupp, so whatever headgames Suh played worked for most of the game.

  14. I feel like Suh looks for motivation wherever he can and uses it to get himself wound up way beyond the norm. Even for a D-Lineman. I’m sure he felt like it would be a huge advantage for him to get into Matthew’s head. So he took a shot. It didn’t really work out but this is the NFL. Players look for every little advantage they can get. Kelly probably needs to take Aaron Burr’s advice and talk less, smile more.

  15. Suh is a bully who isn’t the player he used to be. Good for Stafford to win vs this clown. The only thing Suh is “gonna (expletive) up” is his bank acct when he’s broke by the time he’s 40 & showing up on TMZ.

  16. Players like Ndamukong Suh should not be allowed to play. We all know his past just like many others still playing. Guys running around saying I am going to F you up. Then next time they meet and someone is seriously injured, oh wow it is just football we will give them their 15th chance. Then again what kind of message is this sending to the children who looks up to these players.

  17. Mrs Stafford left out the part where her husband kicked Suh in the nuts. She conveniently left that part out. That’s why Suh said he was going to F him up.

  18. I’m just glad Stafford beat Brady. If Suh goes down the drain with Brady, that’s just frosting on the cake.

  19. Win or lose, Matthew Stafford was always a class act while in Detroit. I don’t know if it is his long hours of practice and preparation or travel away from family, but clearly Kelly Stafford isn’t getting enough attention at home. With her constantly running her mouth, it must make even the most ardent fans wonder if there’s a way to root for Matthew Stafford and root against Kelly Stafford.

  20. “The only thing Suh is “gonna (expletive) up” is his bank acct when he’s broke by the time he’s 40 & showing up on TMZ.”

Suh actually seems to be a very good businessman. Time will tell.

  21. Careful, Kelly, you’re starting to approach Brittany Matthews territory in levels of annoyance.

  22. Stafford just had the worst thing ever to happen, the Rams are cooked now when the wife of a player starts babbling to the media it is the kiss of death.
It’s funny how nobody that has ever played with Suh ever has anything bad to say about him..perhaps the media really pushes the narrative about him a little too much. Sure he is a tough player but not the demon everyone thinks he is. His teammates love him.

  23. The man is out of control and borderline psychotic on the field. He has a long history of this and being one of football’s dirtiest players

  24. Always important to hear what the relatives think. Or rather, we think they will provide a secret insight and say what the athlete is really thinking. Are we sure about that formula?

For his perspective on this situation, let’s check in with Patrick Mahomes’ future brother-in-law….

  25. Looked to me like Stafford balled up to stop Vontez Burfict II from flopping his 320lbs on top of him, like we all know he would’ve. If he got him in the barnacles, so be it. Sometimes Karma is a wonderful thing..

  26. Sad for Brady and other Buc’s but it is always a good day when a person like Suh is eliminated from the playoffs!!

Suh became friends with Nebraska alum Warren Buffet while in college . He’s taken his advice to build an impressive investment portfolio . Below is an excerpt from a recent article on Suh in Forbes magazine.

“In the years since, Suh has gone about building a diverse, balanced portfolio. Along with a partner named Joel Andersen, he’s a co-founder of HMS Developments, which develops residential, mixed-use and commercial real estate. He is the co-owner of two hotels. He owns restaurants in several cities. He invests in venture capital and private equity, including funds managed by Andreessen Horowitz and General Atlantic. He invests in stocks. He’s even the adviser to a SPAC, called FAST Acquisition Corp., that raised $200 million in an IPO in March.”

  28. Stafford is still playing at the elite level, Suh is not. I loved watching Brenden Scherff push him around and throw him to the ground when the Bucs played the WFT, looked like a man against a boy.

  29. Also go back and actually look at that play. There’s zero nut-kicking. His leg/foot got wrapped up for like a nanosecond between & behind Suh’s legs, then he pulled it back and stood up. Suh is a 6-year-old in a grown man’s body.

  30. As far as Suh goes, he should have been kicked out of the league years ago, so that’s on the NFL. Maybe if the league would have done their job, Kelly wouldn’t feel like she has to. Sometimes I feel wives should stay out of it, but Suh is a little off center, and he threatened her husband. It wasn’t like your usual bone-headed taunt. This guy is a repeat offender, and he breaks the rules to try to injure players. The video evidence of some of the things Suh has done don’t go away.

  31. Probably bc Stafford couldn’t get it done in the playoffs when they were in Detroit. Suh is a moron and a competitor so he probably holds a grudge for no reason like how Shaq made up the beef with David Robinson. Athletes do it all the time for extra motivation.

  32. Never seen so many people outraged by a woman speaking her mind. If Kelly was a man people would be wholeheartedly endorsing her comments.

  33. Suh is a big baby and poor sportsman. He’s lucky he’s got his rage more under control, his stomping stunts done today might get him bounced for good. He’s got his ring, let him sit around claiming to be a victim. No one kicked him.

  34. If you are looking for Suh’s approval, you’re truly failing at life.

  35. For the those trashing Kelly…she’s already stared down and beaten something scarier than any of you have ever faced, so flame away fellas

  36. Not a good look if you have your wife verbally fighting your battles.

  37. The people who are so upset by Kelly having an opinion are really going to be triggered when a team hires the first female GM.

  38. Stafford kicked Suh and I generally don’t side with a cheap shot artist like him. Stafford used Suh’s reputation to his advantage.

  39. Your husband is about to play in the biggest game of his life. Please, with all due respect, stop talking until after the season concludes.

  40. It’s always good when the wives of QBs have their own podcasts… What could possibly go wrong?

  41. Stafford got away with one. He kicked Suh right in the nads….not that Suh didn’t deserve it. But the refs missed that one.

  42. I’m annoyed just reading the transcript of the podcast. I can’t imagine how anyone could listen to this more than 6 seconds.

  43. New title: Player who has stomped on heads, arms and kicked another player in the groin gets mad when it happens to him.

Mrs Stafford left out the part where her husband kicked Suh in the nuts. She conveniently left that part out. That’s why Suh said he was going to F him up.

Suh damn sure recovered from a kick to the nuts faster than any man in history if that’s the case.

  45. Jealousy. Stafford has a chance to win a Super Bowl. Suh won a fluker bowl last year, pretty asterisky stuff and most people don’t take it seriously.

  46. I have a million dollar idea!: A podcast hosted by the wives of NFL quarterbacks. Giselle, Matthew Stafford’s wife, and Mahomes’s fiancé should be the regular hosts, with occasional guests. They drink wine during the show.

  47. Ummmm Stafford (whether intentional or not) kicked him in the groin on the play in question. Seems hard to believe Matt was totally oblivious who it was either.

  48. Defensive lineman are supposed to be mean. I don’t remember a “Cordial” Joe Greene.

  49. Suh is a defensive linemen. It’s his job to dislike quarterbacks. That and Stafford had a bigger contract than Suh.

  50. Did Stafford really kick him? I mean the guy lolowed on top of the man I doubt he had much control of where his body was going. Suh is a scumbag and if Stafford did unintentionally kick him in the Jimmy well then he deserved it.

  51. I’ve never watched a game Suh played in where he didn’t deliver at least 1 cheapshot.

Seriously dude, you are lecturing a someone about allegedly kicking someone who is known for stomping and kicking other people repeatedly. Suh is the last person on earth that should get upset about being kicked during a football game.

  53. I like Kelly S, makes good points…. my team’s QB (KC 15) wife is doing tik tok videos non-sense with his ego-maniac lil brother!

  54. Suh is only motivated by two things, anger and money. I don’t think it was intentional but it does look like Stafford may have clipped him. The hilarious part of this was Suh’s whining to the refs. That’s pretty rich coming from the guy that intentionally kick Matt Schaub in the nuts.

Also, Kelly Stafford will always have her mans back.

  55. When I saw the replay, I was like, did Stafford try to kick him? Or if anything, protect himself with his legs from Suh falling on him, which I would do any day of the week.

  56. Suh may be mean and dirty on the field but he is one of the most charitable athletes. His family foundation has donated millions of dollars to the needy in Detroit area. He has donated few million dollars to Nebraska University. Suh is good friends with Warren Buffet and has spent some time with him, Suh is not going to be broke by 40 as some people think.

  57. Awww, poor little Suh got abused by Stafford. Kicked, flagged and smoked on the last play of the game. Such abuse. Matt was worth each and every pick.

Brady has played in 10 SBs and won 7 of them. I think he will be ok. Meanwhile Aaron has played in 1. Just like Trent Dilfer and Doug Williams.

  60. Does she realize Suh is still in the league and may face Stafford again in the future?

  61. I used to like her and felt bad about her brain tumor and all, but playing off her husband’s success and celebrity to create a platform on social media is just weak. Why people pay attention to that drivel is beyond me.

  62. I think maybe let “Matthew” speak for himself. Of course she would have opinions, but that’s not super helpful to share publicly. Not it just creates questions that need to be answered by Stafford while he’s preparing for the biggest game of his career.

  63. Let’s see if Matthew can get past that 49ers D he tends to struggle with, and then Mahomes of course … so he can catch up with Suh in the ring department.

Um… you realize he’s only been fined once since the 2014 season? One fine in 2018 for a horse-collar tackle (in other words, he’s been fined exactly once in the last seven full seasons). The guy definitely cleaned up his act.
