The Dolphins are moving toward a second round of head coaching interviews and there’s word on which coaches remain in the mix in Miami.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore are expected to receive second interviews for the job.

Daboll coached at Alabama early in Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s time at the school and he was mentioned as a candidate shortly after the Dolphins fired Brian Flores. Daboll has also interviewed twice with the Giants, however, and worked with their new General Manager Joe Schoen in Buffalo, so there may be competition for his services.

The second round of interviews is expected to get underway next week.

  1. My vote is for Brian Daboll. The job he has done with developing Josh Allen has been nothing short of impressive.

  2. I wonder if Schoen really wants Daboll. If he did, I’d think Daboll would be in NY right now. I didn’t think Daboll was revered in Buffalo. He’s not someone I would be happy seeing as HC…

  3. Hoping Daboll stays in Buffalo 1 more year to get that championship with Allen in helping develop him over the past few years. Would hate to break up all of the coordinating before Allen gets the Ring.

Daboll gives me that same impression too. However, if you close your eyes hard enough, doesn’t Daboll remind you of Andy Reid? For that potential alone, I think he is worth a shot. All of those things you have said about Daboll could have been said about Reid prior to him landing a job in Philly.

  5. For Ross, it’s all about the division. He’s sick and tired of 3rd place. He wants someone who can knows the Bills and can compete with them, and who can beat the Pats. That, and putting together an offense that complements Tua’s skill set seem to make Daboll the one to look at hardest.

  6. Only the Dolphins would be dumb enough not to hire Daboll… Giants will probably grab him first….

  7. They could resurrect Don Shula, but until they fix the OL it don’t matter who the HC is.

  8. Hiring Daboll will be a disaster and Ross will have set the Dolphins back 5 years… again…. He was the Dolphins Offensive Coordinator 10 years ago… he was fired because he sucked at the job. He then took over the OC in KC. Once again fired after 1 year. He then fell into position coach roles and college…. In Buffalo he hit the lottery with Josh Allen, if they picked anyone else, there’s not a chance in the world he’s even getting interviews right now. HE’S NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE. The Dolphins royally screwed up firing Brian Flores (over Ross’ ego) and we fans are all paying for it now…. they should just hire this unknown guy Mike McDaniel… he seems like someone everyone likes.. why not. At this point.. what the hell do we have to lose.

  9. My money is on the Giants. He’s close to home and his family in Buffalo, and I doubt he’d go to a division rival unless the Dolphins massively overpay him. I think he’s using the Dolphins as leverage for the Giants HC gig, where he has familiarity with the new GM Schoen who was the assistant GM in Buffalo.

  10. Dolphins dodged the Daboll bullet… can someone tell me more about McDaniel? I’ve only see interviews with him where he seems like the light of the room that everyone loves…. can anyone elaborate on him?
