Patrick Mahomes can be the youngest quarterback to start three Super Bowls

Few players have accomplished as much as Patrick Mahomes, so early in his career, and he’s one win away from another unprecedented accomplishment.

If the Chiefs beat the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl LVI, Mahomes will start in his third Super Bowl, and he will be the youngest quarterback in NFL history to start three Super Bowls.

Tom Brady is currently the youngest quarterback to start his third Super Bowl; Mahomes will be 26 years and 149 days old on the day of Super Bowl LVI, younger than Brady was at the time of his third Super Bowl.

Mahomes is five seasons into his NFL career, and although he was a backup as a rookie, he is off to as good a start as the NFL has ever seen.

  1. Not bad for a guy who 17 weeks ago was “broken”, a guy who the league had “figured out”.

  2. The one thing is that sustained success in the NFL is absolutely not guaranteed.

When won their 3rd superbowl in 4 years it seemed like the run would never end. They went a full decade without a title before beating the Seahawks.

When the cowboys won their 3rd in 4 years it also seemed like they had plenty left. 26 years later they haven’t even seen an NFL title game.

Point is let’s appreciate this run now without thinking about the future.

  3. Andy Reid was among the most criticized and ridiculed coaches before he drafted Mahomes. He was always a great coach, but he never had a top QB until Mahomes. McNabb was a good QB, but not quite elite. Now Andy’s a first ballot HOF coach, and rightfully so. Hope he continues to coach for another 10 years.

  4. We are witnessing greatness. He will end up in the GOAT conversation of the best that ever did it with Brady, Montana, Elway, Peyton Manning, Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino, and Otto Graham. Go Chiefs!!!

Plus he is a class act.

  5. Dont forget tho – Big Ben is the youngest QB to win a SB. I’m sure I will get a Seahawks fan backlash, for this comment.

  6. Everybody sleeping on this guy with Burrow being better than Brady.

  7. I get it, but Brady won 3 Super Bowls before he ever lost a playoff game, so not quite “as good a start as the NFL has ever seen”. That said, if not for Brady in 2018 and last year then Mahomes probably already has 3 Super Bowls.

  9. Mahomes also got drafted into the best situation any QB in NFL history ever had. Sits behind Alex Smith on a playoff caliber football team with freak shows at every level of the offense and arguably the best offensive HC in NFL history.

How many other QB’s would have had drastically better careers in a similar scenario?

Not taking anything away from Mahomes but the stars aligned for him to be where he is.

  10. Mahomes first year as a starter came after he got to sit behind a pro’s pro in Alex Smith and learn on an absolutely loaded roster with one of the greatest offensive minds in the NFL history.

His first year starting he has a HOF TE, All Pro-WR, All-Pro RT and a Pro Bowl-RB and Pro Bowl LT.

Can you name one QB that had more talent surrounding him on offense or a better starting scenario to an NFL career?

Josh Allen’s first year in the league. No Pro Bowl or All-Pro players on offense. 1 good rookie OL, 4 bums that had him running for his life from the snap.

His weapons? Kelvin Benjamin who dropped every pass he didn’t give up early on the route. Zay Jones, Charles Clay, who dropped two game winners and the ghost of Shady McCoy.

Defensive HC in McDermott and Brian Daboll’s first year in Buffalo.

Oh and the Bills were eating $50 million in dead cap for players who weren’t on the roster to fix cap issues.

I would argue no QB has ever had a better start to their career than for the simple fact that no QB has ever come into a better situation is NFL history.

  13. Mahomes has the best offense in the league to help him out. Including the best receiver and tight end in the league in Hill and Kelce. Plus much as I dislike Reid he is the best offensive mind of the millennium so far. Compare that to Brady or Rodgers who never had the luxury of having tbe best receiver and tight end on the same team.

    ==========

    Brady, 100%

The evil genius, with the best D in the League. No coincidence they won 3 out of the gate.

Lol. Filming signals from the sidelines was widely practices until the league sent a memo about it in 2007. They had no advantage. Try again.

Crazy thing is he has an outside shot to catch Belichick if he retires. Never thought that could happen. Not in Super Bowl wins, but in overall wins. Would have to coach a long time still and I suspect he will retire. He doesn’t appear to be a healthy man.

  17. Regardless of the roster talent- Brady came into a loaded roster too. One of the best defenses this league has ever seen. (shutting down the greatest show on turf) Mahomes is special. He makes plays that defy logic. The TD to Pringle last week with two free edge rushers comes to mind…. He would have been great no matter where he played. If the Chiefs didn’t draft him, the Saints would have.

  18. Compare that to Brady or Rodgers who never had the luxury of having tbe best receiver and tight end on the same team.
    ===========

Rodgers had an absurd receiving core early on, a key factor in his Super Bowl.. he had so many targets they couldn’t get them all on teh field at once.. Jennings, Driver, Jordy, James Jones, Jermichael Finley, Randall Cobb.. literally all those guys on the team 2011-2012. Finley was forced to retire, we’ll never know what may have been there. But when he was at his best, so was that Packer offense.

Moss and Gronk were on the same team… for 4 games….

  19. I would love to see Joe Burrow in the Super Bowl this year. Mahomes is great, but I’m rooting for the Bengals. The fans deserve it and I love the chemistry with his receivers, especially Chase. He just needs better o-line protection.

  20. Wow, some forget that the Brady guy was so good early in his career. And then mid-career. And then late career. And then ludicrously late career.

  21. If the Chiefs cover Ja’marr Chase with single coverage again Mahomes will not be going to the SB. See week 17.

  22. That and also the QB with the most insufferable personal posse. His brother and girlfriend are going to be the downfall of this guy’s popularity

  23. He need to establish his greatness while young, because with that running style, Mahomes will not playing well into his late 30s and 40s.

I don’t think there’s any question about that. He’s well on his way.

I understand how people feel about them, but maybe just stop paying attention to them. Who cares what they do.

  26. Mahomes is a special player, but outside of KC, pretty sure the rest of us are already a bit tired of it. The last thing anyone needs, is a new version of the Patriots. Go Bengals.

  27. “ chillyballs”, do you you actually pay attention to football? Have you seen was #12 has accomplished since 2015? 3 SB wins?
