Chiefs cut Damon Arnette after arrest

Damon Arnette‘s tenure with the Chiefs didn’t last long.

Arnette, the former Raiders first-round pick who signed a reserve/futures contract with the Chiefs last week, was released this morning, hours after he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

A cornerback who went to the Raiders with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, Arnette was a huge disappointment and was released in November of 2021 after a video surfaced of him displaying a gun and making threats. But the Chiefs decided to give Arnette a chance by signing him to a reserve/futures contract.

The Chiefs reportedly told Arnette there would be zero tolerance, but the message apparently didn’t get through to him, as he was arrested overnight in Las Vegas.

Unlike standard contracts, reserve/futures contracts don’t put players on the active roster, so Arnette wouldn’t have been playing for the Chiefs during the postseason anyway. Instead, the reserve/futures signing just meant he would have a chance to be on the Chiefs’ 90-player offseason roster.

Now that chance has come to an end. It may have been Arnette’s last chance in the NFL.

  1. Wow!! If the chiefs release you after an arrest you know you’re a loser. They usually sign these guys to long term contracts

  2. Tyreek Hill showed the Chiefs who he was and where is he now? Getting ready for the AFCCG. If you can run like a “cheetah” and catch the ball,it’s all good.

  3. Boy the Raiders really nailed it on character with the last couple of draft classes, didn’t they?

  4. Don’t worry, Damon. Once word gets out to Jurrah, the Cowboys will be more than willing to sign you to nice fat contact. You’re just the type of “leader” they’re looking for!

  5. Wait, the Chiefs sign career criminals as long as they can play? Got it. What a model franchise.

  6. One thing about the Chiefs is they do enable women beaters and criminals, no matter how bad of a pos you are Andy will always be there if you have lighting fast speed or can rush the passer.

There really needs to be a penalty for “second chance” teams and coaches when they recommit, inste4ad of like the Chiefs look the other way by Roger.

  7. So many of these young men come from rough places and/or have been free of consequence their entire short lives. Many need guidance and mentorship. Because of the physical talent they possess they continue to get additional chances. Would love to see the NFL as whole continue to provide these young men with the tools to evolve into functioning adults even after they are no longer useful on the grid iron.

  8. When it comes to guys like this, front offices are blinded by the fact that he was a 1st round draft pick. This guy is more of a criminal than a football player.
The Chiefs stupidly thought he was redeemable and was worth giving a second chance to. He didn’t waste any time proving them wrong.

  9. Chiefs keep signging violent people and the media says nothing.

Such an unlikeable franchise like Baltimore and others that support this kind of thing.

  10. This dude. Gets a second chance again. And does what now? The Cheifs cut you after the Raiders did the same? Yikes.

  11. He must not be very good because if he were any good, Andy Reid would not cut him. He doesn’t care about character over there. Don’t let him fool you.

  12. So was this guy a problem at OSU? If so, they must’ve done a good job of keeping him under wraps.

  13. If it happened in NYC or LA, he would have been released with no bail a hour later. With the charge knocked down to a disorderly.

  14. Lots of Chiefs and Tyreek Hill hate on here. I guess everyone forgot that Hill was setup by his ex and it was all a scam. Maybe it’s just jealously that the Chiefs be playing in their 4th straight conference championship tomorrow…..

  15. Some guys just aren’t very bright. The only other team that might sign him would be Dallas (remember, they signed Greg Hardy) but I’m not sure he possesses enough talent to overlook this latest episode.

This latest episode though shows that he is clueless. You’d think he would have learned after being cut by the Raiders. Apparently not. It was just a matter of time before he made himself unemployable by the NFL. It seems that time might be now….if nothing more than for showing extremely bad judgment in this latest episode.

  16. The Chiefs should be ashamed that they even signed this guy after his November incident. Go Bengals!

Of someone who hero-worships a trashpile who beats pregnant women and then comes on the internet to brag about it?

    Not really.

After he retired as an NFL coach, IBM hired Dick Vermeil to be the keynote speaker at a function they had. After his lengthy talk, Vermeil fielded questions. One gentleman asked Vermeil what he thought about giving guys who get in trouble 2nd and 3rd chances. Vermeil said he had players who got into trouble with other teams that he thought he could change, but couldn’t. He then raised his hand way above his head and former an “O” with his thumb and index finger and said, “if a guy is one of these, he’ll probably always be one of these”. That said it all, to me.

  19. Leave the gangsta past behind, DA. You’ve been cut from 2 teams now. When are you gonna learn? NFL dream is down the toilet now.

  20. Sorry Arrnett, your not Antonio Brown and get 10,000 chances. That was it for the NFL. .

  21. I wonder who couched for him at Ohio State when Mayock said they were concerned about character issues but were assured by osu folks it wouldn’t be an issue
