Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell will be busy trying to make the Super Bowl on Sunday and the coming days could be busy ones for him to set up next steps in his coaching career.

NFL Media reports that a pair of teams are interested in talking to O’Connell about their head coaching vacancies this week. The Vikings have interviewed O’Connell once and they’d like to have a second conversation with him about the job. The Jaguars would like to have their first interview with O’Connell.

O’Connell’s first interview with the Vikings came before Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was hired as the General Manager. The two men were both in the 49ers organization in 2016 and Adofo-Mensah also worked with current 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, who is also reportedly on the list of candidates the Vikings want to interview a second time.

The Vikings also spoke to University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh on Saturday.

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has been seen as the favorite for the Jacksonville job, but there have reportedly been issues with getting him to sign on to work with General Manager Trent Baalke. The Saints also requested an interview with Leftwich this week.

  1. How does Baalke still have a job? Just reading about all the candidates teams have been interviewing for their GM openings makes it abundantly clear that there are a lot of better options available. If Baalke is the only holdup, Khan needs to get him outta there so Lawrence can work with Leftwich and be put in a situation where he might actually learn something about being an NFL QB.

  2. the vikings should interview Leftwidh – OConnel and Ryans seem like scrubs. The head coach interviewing needs to wait until after the season. All it accomplishes is distracting playoff team coaches from doing their jobs.

  3. Nobody wants the Jaguars job as long as Baalke remains GM. If Leftwich turns them down, they will have missed on all of their top three candidates. And the clueless owner has made no indication that he’s changing his mind on Baalke.

It’s so bad that they’re back to doing first interviews with candidates like OConnell. The Jaguars have had a head coach opening for over a month and a half.

  4. Baalke is a disgrace! But given that their goofy owner hired Meyer it’s no surprise he keeps this loser hanging around as GM. Stupid. At least he dumped Meyer. One down, one to go….
