Rams receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had a big start to Super Bowl LVI, catching a 17-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and a 35-yard reception early in the second quarter that helped set up Cooper Kupp’s first touchdown reception of the night.

But later on in the second quarter, Beckham suffered a non-contact knee injury while trying to catch a pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Beckham exited the game and did not return.

After the contest, Beckham told CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson that he was happy to be a Super Bowl champion. But didn’t give any details about the extent of his knee injury.

“We don’t know yet, we’re going to wait to hear,” Beckham said. “I was trying to go back out there. Docs are going to take care of you.”

Beckham did make his way back on the sideline in street clothes and was able to watch the rest of the contest.

“There was a moment I was in the back room — they told me I was done, I couldn’t play, and I had to come back out there and be a part of this because it’s so much bigger than myself,” Beckham said. “And these boys pulled through and made it happen. So, it’s nothing but love.”

Beckham is slated to become a free agent after signing with the Rams in November. He caught 27 passes for 305 yards with five touchdowns for Los Angeles in the regular season and added 23 receptions for 339 yards with three TDs in the postseason.

  1. Losing OBJ was big. That really hurt. Thankfully Kupp found ways to get open, which should never happen!

  2. If he had remained healthy he would have gone on to have a MONSTER game! Too bad. Hope he heals well and comes back even better.

  3. Meanwhile, Baker still played with two sprained knees, a sprained ankle, broken bone in his shoulder, and a torn labrum.

  4. OBJ should have been the game MVP, lol. With him the Rams offense was difficult to defend. Without him the Rams got shut down. His injury showed how valuable he was to the Rams in that game.

  5. looked like Stafford slightly threw it behind him and Odell blew his knee when he was adjusting to catch the ball..Least he got a ring out of it, wonder if he will retire?

This is going to age horribly if it ends up being serious.

He was on the sidelines walking around. And on the field after the game. And partying in the locker room, without any brace or crutches or anything. Seemed fine.

You do understand that you can run full on sprints with a torn ACL. Can’t move laterally but can run full sprints. Most knee injuries you can at least walk on before surgery. I could tell you because I’ve had four.

He had already kind of had one. I think they were going to shift to Kupp more as soon as the coverage started shifting toward Beckham a little more. Fortunately the other recivers did well and Kupp wound up thumbing his nose at the coverage anyhow.
