A ransomware gang claims it has hacked the 49ers, contending that it has stolen some of the team’s financial data.

Via the Associated Press, the group known as BlackByte posted team documents in a file marked “2020 invoices” in a site on the dark web.

The team has acknowledged a “network security incident” involving some of its corporate IT network systems.

“To date, we have no indication that this incident involves systems outside of our corporate network, such as those connected to Levi’s Stadium operations or ticket holders,” the team said in a statement provided to the AP. This implies that the attack involves systems inside the corporate network, which presumably entails a potentially broad range of information.

The team has said that it notified law enforcement and hired cybersecurity firms to assist in the process.

  1. I used to work in online marketing, called on the Oakland Raiders, learned that they outsource their web portal, among other IT systems. The IT people were glorified bureaucrats with sub-standard skill sets relative to the local market. I wonder if the 49ers manage their IT systems in house……

  2. In this day in age with all of the security tech on the market; If you get hacked you deserve to be hacked.

  3. Umm, this can happen anywhere to anyone or any group. If you don’t take it seriously and have some hubris running around with Jed York and Co., it doesn’t matter where you are located.

  4. Kyle Shanahan will part the sea, walk into Russia and find the persons responsible for this. Just before he is about to get the 49ers systems back online, he will make some late mistake that allows the hackers to regain control of the situation and turn what looked to be a heroic effort into a loss. But don’t worry the teflon head coach will never take any of the blame as always.

  5. Living in the SV doesn’t make you exempt from hacking. If anything it’s the opposite; the SV is where all the hackers live.

  6. I’m sure those unsuspecting hackers will get caught now that the Niners ‘loser stink’ in on them. That just doesn’t wash off.
