Von Miller: Aaron Donald’s done everything, but winning a Super Bowl is addictive

USA TODAY Sports

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald sidestepped a question about his potential retirement after winning Super Bowl LVI.

But one of his key teammates addressed the potential of Donald hanging up his cleats after the game.

“I don’t know, man. He’s done everything you can possibly do,” now two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller said. “But this feeling here, there’s nothing like it. It’s addictive. Once you feel this — coming to the Super Bowl is one thing. But winning it is different. And we’ll just have to see.

“He’s done so much. But I’ll tell you, this feeling is great. It just makes you want it more and more and more. But he’s definitely capped off a great career, if he chooses to do that. But this is an addictive feeling and I can’t see him walking away from this.”

Donald finished Super Bowl LVI with four total tackles, 2.0 sacks, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits. He combined with defensive tackle Greg Gaines to stuff a Cincinnati run for no gain on third-and-1 with 48 seconds left. Then he got to Joe Burrow on fourth-and-1, spinning the quarterback around to force an errant, incomplete throw and seal the 23-20 victory.

“He’s different, man. He’s the truth, man,” Miller said of Donald. “He does everything well. He never turns it off — on the football field, off the football field, in the locker room. Flying on the plane. To games flying on the plane, away from games. Working out. In meetings. He’s the same guy. He was determined for this moment. It feels good to be a part of this win for him.”

  1. I was going to place a bet on the Bengals to win. Thankfully I didn’t place that bet because this game was rigged

  2. Maybe. To be honest if Donald did retire I would almost respect him more and I am not sure that is possible. I have to continue to work for money as my retirement is 10 years away. If Donald comes back it will because he desires it. I think he has a better chance of coming back than I. He ain’t done.

  3. Von totally broke Cam’s will in SB50. He was never the same after that fumble.
But I think Joe is way tougher than Cam ever was

  4. Kupp deserved MVP but if he didn’t get it, it would’ve been nice to see Aaron Donald win it. Von a two-time super bowl winner..Pretty sure he’s stamped for the hall of fame now

  5. I told y’all no one was gonna care that Miller loves the Broncos after he wins the Super Bowl with two sacks… said it last week fwiw

  6. Boy, it’s a real shame the Rams were so distracted by their OC interviewing for a head coaching job and being rumored as the next Vikings coach. Otherwise, they might have won the Super Bowl.

I remember your post. Thumbs up again. Bin is a champion x2 and he always shows up for the big games

  8. The Ref that kept calling ticky tack calls ONLY when it looked the the Rams on that last drive (Rams major media market) might lose..deserved the Rams MVP…If those calls were made the whole game I’d say different. But calling questionable game deciding calls ONLY on the last drive is .Bengals smaller market less money

  9. This was a Hollywood Super Bowl, NFL was not surviving in the Los Angeles market…..again. The only thing that can save the NFL in Los Angeles was a super bowl hosted by Los Angeles, a halftime show with Los Angeles powerhouse music stars, and a Los Angeles team playing in the super bowl, against a sacrificial lamb type of opponent who really didn’t pose a threat.

Oh, and look what magically happens, a Franchise QB falls in the Rams’ laps, a gold jacket DE and star receiver falls in their laps mid season, the Chiefs lose at home to a 10-7 team in the AFC championship, refs who kept the flags in their pockets for most of the game decided to call penalties in the final two minutes of a Rams game winning drive too late for the Bengals to adjust to the way they were calling the game.

This is outrageous, if this is what the NFL needs to do to sustain football in the Los Angeles market, maybe you shouldn’t have a team there in the first place let alone two teams, this game was either rigged or all the stars just magically aligned just in time to save football in Los Angeles.

If you had bet on the Bengals, you would have won. They covered the spread. But okay.

  11. Aaron Donald plays a game that has a correlation to a short life span. Average life expectancy of an NFL player is under 60 years. Playing relatively healthy for 7 years and retiring could saving him 5-10 years later in life.

Selfishly, I want to keep seeing him play football. But I can’t blame him if he wants to go out on top.
