Aaron Rodgers posts social-media message that provides no clear answers about his future

As Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains in his self-described window of deliberation as to whether he’ll continue to be the Packers quarterback, he has posted a vague message on social media that will mean whatever the reader wants it to mean.

Posted as “Monday Night Gratitude,” Rodgers opens by thanking Shailene Woodley, to whom he was engaged and with whom he reportedly has split. He then pivots to his professional relationships.

“To the men I got to share the QB room with everyday,” Rodgers says, “you guys made every day so much fun and I’m so thankful for the daily laughs and stress relief you brought me every week of the year.”

He then thanks specific teammates, including receiver Randall Cobb and tackle David Bakhtiari. “I loved every moment we got to spend together this year,” Rodgers says. “Your love and support was overwhelming, and I cherish the friendships I have with each of you.”

He then addresses “past and current” teammates more broadly. “You are the icing on the beautiful cake we call our job; football,” he says. “The friendships that we have will transcend our collective time in this game and I am so thankful for the role that each of you have played in making my life that much better. I love you guys, and I cherish the memories we’ve made.”

He closes with a message “to everyone else”: “Spread love and gratitude you beautiful people, and read a book once in a while too while you’re at it. Love and peace.”

In isolation, it means nothing about his future. In the context of the decision he’s in the process of making, it could mean plenty. It can be interpreted as if he’s staying. It can be interpreted as if he’s going. Ultimately, it really doesn’t say much of anything about what comes next.

But it feels like a precursor to what comes next, given that he said 12 days ago he’ll take a couple of weeks and that his decision will come “pretty quick.”

Pretty quick apparently is coming pretty soon. Nothing in his message changes the timeline that he provided on February 10.

  1. He already said he was going to mention his intentions on the pat mcafee show, anything before that means nothing.

  2. Remember when Mark Murphy said that Rodgers was a complicated fella? Everybody chastised Murphy. I think Murphy was just being honest about Rodgers. He’s a hard guy to figure out.

  3. My guess is he’s feeling sorry for himself tonight after getting dumped by Shailene Woodley.

  4. I hope his friendship with his teammates is more real than his relationship with his “fiance”.

  5. When he said he would make a quick decision… I assumed he would share said decision with public like a mature professional would. Not Aaron… he looked at Kylers playbook and liked what he saw. Immature social media games on the fly! Fantastic!

  6. This guy for the second straight off season is playing a diva. Either demand a trade, retire, remain where you are, but shut up already! Attention seeker…

  7. “…and read a book once in a while too while you’re at it.”
    Ho HO, what a left-handed whip-song!
Well, shucks–At least we figured out Captain Covid doesn’t have worms…

  8. Must be bored so pulling puppet strings on NFL-overthing-world is cheap entertainment for all. One notion is that Tom Clements didn’t take the QB coach gig for nothing. Another angle is that his shot at a ring is equally good if Davante and some others stick-around. The ointment in the NFC Norris Division is weird with Getsy to Bears & Pettine, Donnelly and Smith turning purple and the whole thing is now Shanahan-adjacent-Central. I guess the trainers might be left. In Gutey (and Russ Ball) we trust. GPG.

  9. Early Feb to early March in the NFL should be fairly quiet, but no. There is Rodgers, Watson, Brady, Brown, The Washington Commies, now the Cowboys.Geez, give it a rest.

  10. So in other words ‘this is a show about nothing,’ but this isn’t even funny, it’s getting old.

  11. His rambling kind of makes me wonder if he knows he can’t get “a beautiful” drug tested for quite a while.

  12. What a drama queen. Make up your mind and do it.

Spare me his musings on social media, PFT.

  13. When you thank teammates, you either is retiring or leaving the team. That’s my interpretation.

  14. Plenty of people loved Brett Favre when he did his annual retire/not retire dance and Rodgers loves attention at least as much as Favre.

  15. Is the self anointed “smartest guy in the room” trying to be the focus of an SNL skit? What a drama queen diva this guy is. Aaron, the country is laughing at you – not with you.

  16. Sounds like a goodbye to the Packers and a hello to some other org he’ll tornado through.

  17. If I play for Green Bay this year and either don’t make the playoffs or am ousted in the playoffs like we were this year, I’ll be exiting the NFL for good, embarassed and humiliated.

  18. Don’t join an AFC team if you knows what’s best. Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, Herbert, Burrow will take your lunch money!

  19. “… and read a book once in a while too while you’re at it.”

    He’s got a point. Americans don’t read.

  20. Apparently, Rodgers thinks that the whole world revolves around him and what he’s going to do next.

  21. Too much scotch in the glass,George on the jukebox and an ache in your heart for the one who left you makes for feelings like old Aaron seems to have. keep him away from a gun.

Yet, here you are…? Confused why you’re even reading news you don’t care about. Oh wait, OutRaGe!!!

  23. This guy once had control of how he wanted his persona and brand considered and respected. His own arrogance failed him. He lied about the presumed efficacy of his vaccination status, and got indignant about it when he was exposed. He lost credibility. The Packers know this. Anyone who has tried to forgive-and-forget a liar knows this. You can’t go home again.

  24. Why make this public? Thank these people personally and behind the scenes, not on the cover of “Us” magazine.

  25. Sounds like a depressed man that was jilted by his lover, no friends to talk to, so he takes his loneliness to social media.

  26. I get a kick out of the irony of people accusing someone else of being a drama queen as they try to parse a celebrity tweet for juicy gossip. Pure comedy gold.

  27. Trade him while he’s still got some value let’s rebuild in 2022 with extra picks instead of 2023 without them . This guy is no longer the asset to the PACKERS he once was.
His brand is in shambles because of his lying and his very over the top self centered ego a guy who thinks the world revolves around him let’s move on already time our GM put on his big boy pants and does what’s best for the Packers .

    Jackson? Haha….good one!!

  29. He coulda just contacted those he thought of so highly directly and avoided all the publicity; however, I guess that’s no longer his MO.

  30. @ chief4ever don’t worry, Pat Mahomes and his family will continue to strive for relevancy in the off-season. Already, some off your players have captured the attention of the press and law enforcement in the few weeks since KC lost at home.

  31. Ewwin Wawgers loves himself to love anyone else. He has commitment issues. And his family wants nothing to do with him. He likes to milk drama. Wonder if he can get an innoculation for that? Oh, Dr. Bombay….

  32. He’s in California right now. That tweet looks more inspired by magic gummies than scotch.

  33. So the guy who didn’t get vaccinated because Joe Rogan, a comedian, told him horse dewormer was better wants ME to read a book?

  34. More Bah Bah Bah… from a self-centered attention-needy 12 year old OB that should quit football so he can concentrate on the one he loves…Himself And save Us from his passive aggressive tantrums

  36. Its actually nice seeing a picture of the Packers without Rodgers in it. The Packers should send the Diva a picture like that and let him ponder it as he drinks his three fingers of Scotch alone.
