The NFL is considering Green Bay, Detroit and Washington, D.C., as the hosts for the 2024 NFL draft.

That’s the word from Packers President Mark Murphy, who told reporters today that the homes of the Packers, Lions and Commanders are in the running. The NFL owners are expected to choose the site of the 2024 draft at a league meeting in late March.

For decades, New York City was the default home of the draft, but in 2015 it moved to Chicago, and since then the league has tried to turn it into a major offseason event that crisscrosses the country, and host cities have become increasingly eager to bring the draft to town.

Any of the three finalists would give local fans a draft experience they haven’t previously had: Neither Detroit nor Green Bay has ever hosted a draft (although Milwaukee hosted it in 1940). Washington has only hosted it once, in 1941.

The 2022 draft will be in Las Vegas and the 2023 draft will be in Kansas City.

  1. Might as well just say it’s going to Green Bay. The league, media and refs have a crush on Green Bay so there’s no way it’s going to Detroit or Washington.

  2. Green Bay is good at hosting a single NFL game… it would be a terrible destination for a multiple day NFL event like the draft.

They simply don’t have enough hotel rooms, cabs or rideshare drivers to host.

  3. The Vikings could hold the draft. They have plenty of room since they didn’t waste any on a trophy cabinet!

  4. Yes. Daniel Snyder has run such a first class program! Lets reward Washington with the NFL Draft! Makes perfect sense NFL.

  5. I hope Green Bay gets it. The attendees will come back here and say what a great experience it was, and it will be.

  6. Detroit or Washington would both be great choices. They have awesome fans.

  7. We might not have enough hotel rooms or ride share services,…. but for god’s sakes we have Plenty of Beer, Brats,.. and Cheese Curds.
Supper Clubs too. Heck,… I might invite a few big city boys to tour a few country bumpkin bars in our rural areas. Charlie Sheen said he had a blast doing that when he was here for the NFC Championship.

  8. Three cities not on my list for travel in late April.

Nothing uglier than Door county in the peak of spring, that’s for sure.

  9. Door County is the Martha’s Vineyard of the Midwest. It’s beautiful. You’ll love it.

Weather is quite pleasant in all three places at that time of year — highs in the 60s. Perfect weather for NFL fans to wear their logo festooned spring jackets.
