Is 2022 the Tom Brady farewell tour?

Tom Brady made it clear when he was retiring that he didn’t want a farewell tour. Now that he’s unretiring, an obvious question arises.

Is 2022 his farewell tour?

Many will assume it is. Brady can try to put a stop to it by saying that he’ll definitely be playing in 2023. (He can always change his mind later, as we know.) He also could sign a contract extension with the Buccaneers, to further the ruse.

Or he could just say he’ll worry about 2023 when 2023 comes. Really, if he retires after the 2022 season (hopefully no one buys the ball that will be his final touchdown pass for more than $518,000), we’ll expect him to unretire again, right? Especially if he’s due to become a free agent, and any team can make a pitch to land him for a year or two or whatever.

Maybe the ambiguity that Brady has now baked into his situation will prevent anyone from thinking that any year is his last year. Never say never means we’ll never know if he’s really done. Which means no year will clearly be his last year.

That said, the narrative that any year can be his last year will linger, for every remaining year of his career. For now, all we know is that he’ll be playing in 2022. Farewell tour or not, he’s playing again after saying goodbye.

  1. Between the Aaron Rodgers hate, the covid/vaccine scare tactics ,Tom going to SF, and deshaun Watson never taking another snap in the NFL again PFT is absolutely the crushing it!!

  2. It kind of depends how the season goes. If he sucks like Peyton did his last year, then it’s obvious it will be a farewell tour. But if he comes out playing like this last season and maybe wins the Super Bowl than people will assume he will come back

  3. Yeah whoever paid half a mill for a ball that won’t be Brady’s last touchdown is the one who lost.

  4. Lol. At this point, I dont think anyone cares anymore.

He’s now a phony. I personally wont ever take him seriously again.

  5. As a fan. Gotta say, I buy into too much media hype. Didn’t Brady say he told the truth 10 percent of the time? That’s still higher than most media outlets.

  6. This guy is so good at keeping talking heads guessing. I love it! Hes always a step ahead!

  7. Whoever paid $500,000 plus for the football that was his last touchdown pass probably still has more money than brains.

  8. Still could be his last TD. Things happen and camp, preseason, and the start of the first game a lot can happen to an old man.

  9. Wow. I think he is such a joke. My question is; whatever happened to all that BS about wanting to spend more time with his kids?

  10. Sure seems like TB didn’t like being out of the spotlight. The way he’s handling this may turn fans against him. I’m out, I’m in.. not to mention TB has been really fortunate injury wise. Would hate to see him take a real hit and get hurt. Of course whoever hits TB gets flagged, regardless of circumstance:)

  11. He unreturned to not be overshadowed going into the Hall of Fame with Big Ben 😂

  12. Dude’s playing until he’s 50. Whatever records he sets will remain his. Like him or hate him, the man is one of a kind.

  13. Or did he “retire” in the first place because he wanted to maneuver himself over to the 9ers, finds out that that scenario is not going to come to fruition after all and so then decides to “unretire?”

  14. Or did he only “retire” in the first place because he wanted to maneuver himself over to the 9ers, finds out that that scenario is not going to come to fruition after all and so then decides to “unretire?”

  15. If it comes from his mouth I won’t believe it…he’s already said he’s retiring then came back, so whenever he announces it again I’m taking his “word” with a grain of salt

  16. In a sense. After two months out of the hyperbaric chamber, Giselle said. “Back you go!”

  17. You mean the tour the attention seeker said he didn’t want? It was all for the attention and now the bandwagon Bucs fans are climbing back on board.

  18. I’m in awe what this guy can do at his age. I don’t think enough people realize it.

  19. Think Brady will be the 1st QB to win a super bowl in his 50’s and possibly his 60’s.

  20. Well there you go, Mike was correct about Brady combing back, just not to SF – at least not yet. I’ll bet Rodgers is pissed! I don’t have an issue with this, he’s changed his mind early enough to give everyone time to adjust, at least he did this before free agency and the draft.

  21. Brady gave up his childhood dream because he was scared of being outplayed by Matt Stafford like he was twice this year. Bucs are going 8-8 tops. He will regret this season for the rest is his life

  22. I mean, there’s like 3 other relevant SB contenders currently in the NFC. Why not come back until that changes? Let this man have his final year for the fans if he wants.

  23. So does the guy who paid all of that money for a football that is now not what it was have a case to sue? I mean he bought that football BECAUSE Tom Brady said he was retired, and that statement is what established the price of the ball, and now Brady has changed his mind which has made the football basically worthless

  24. Who cares if he’s back. Not me. Brady may be the GOAT but I’m the Chokemaster General.

  25. So is Brady basically playing for free. I might be wrong but was not the one year extension he signed basically push some money to a dead year for salary cap reasons. It was money he already made.

  26. “Tom Brady made it clear when he was retiring that he didn’t want a farewell tour.” – Tom doesn’t make anything clear. He said himself that most of what he says is a lie.

  27. I think he tried the family life and his family said; go play football! Just kidding.

Sure gives the Buccaneers an added boost knowing he is returning, im sure.

  28. He played great in 2021, but when you go downhill when you’re older, it’s not a slide – it’s a black diamond ski slope.

  29. Brady is the party guest who’s so self-absorbed by his own jokes and brilliant stories that he’s too tone deaf and out of touch to realize that the host and 90% of the other guests have heard and seen enough and are pleading inside for him to cede the floor to someone… anyone else and just leave the party!

  30. Part of me wants to think he did this to spite the media for announcing his retirement for him. Now the rest of the NFL has to suffer.

  31. Lol. At this point, I dont think anyone cares anymore.

He’s now a phony. I personally wont ever take him seriously again.

Brady surely will be crushed to know.

  32. Of course whoever hits TB gets flagged, regardless of circumstance:)

Then how was he sacked 22 times last year?

  33. He’s an egomaniacal in every sense of the word.
No other reason to explain why he’s coming back
since he’s won every imaginable award and has
    every NFL QB record.

  34. Dear Tom, no matter how many years you play in the league, you are not going to erase your 18-1 choke season vs the Giants, a team we all know still keeps you up late at night

  35. I don’t know why there would be a farewell tour. Brady is like the boy who cried wolf. Only, instead of wolves, its retirement.

  36. It’s safe to assume at this point that any time Rodgers or Brady’s season ends with a loss they are going to run away to the end of the driveway just to hear everyone say how much they are missed.

  37. For the sake of the game, let’s hope so. TB is just trying for an Elway/Manning mic drop, but he missed his chance two years ago.

  38. I thought you said he was going to the 49’ers? maybe after this year then he will huh
