The Bills made a huge splash on the first day of free agency by landing linebacker Von Miller, but that wasn’t all they were up to on Wednesday.

The Bills announced that they have also agreed to a deal with tight end O.J. Howard. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that it is a one-year deal worth $3.5 million with incentives that could push it to $5 million.

Howard was a 2017 first-round pick of the Buccaneers and spent the last five seasons with the team. He tore his Achilles in 2020 and missed the Super Bowl, but returned to play in every game last season.

Howard caught 14 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown in the 2021 regular season. He added two catches for 10 yards in the postseason.

The Bills will team Howard with Dawson Knox in what they hope will be a longer postseason run of their own.

  1. He was a #3 TE behind retired Gronk and Brate. Other than depth, I don’t see much of an impact from this signing.

  2. Hope it works out for him. Dude is still young enough I hope he can still have solid career.

  3. Another nice sneaky signing. WAY TO GO MR. BEANE!!!!
    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Bills looking like my favorite to go to the big show..From an Eagles fan I’m pulling for them. No fan base in the NFL deserves it more. Awesome fans. Went to a Bills home game couple yrs back and those fans are great! Great moves Buffalo..

  5. God no, not another O.J.
But seriously, “cap hell” is looking pretty good for now.

  6. Maybe He’ll be as good as Jonnu Smith. Ha ha ha!

Got to love the Pat’s “haul”.

  7. OJ Howard was great at Alabama. Tampa Bay used him as a vertical threat when he was playing with Jameis Winston. When Brady brought Gronk to town with him Howard became a forgotten man. He has a 1 year prove it deal in Buffalo. Practice Squad OT Tommy Doyle even managed to catch a TD from Josh Allen in the playoffs against the Pats. Hopefully the change of scenery will turn Howard’s career around.

  8. After he was injured, OJ Howard never seemed to fit into the Bucs scheme, even after Godwin was hurt & Brown was gone. Never quite made sense why that was.

Let’s see if he still has juice.
