Kyle Pitts tweets, deletes, “it’s about to get scary in Atlanta”

It looks like the Falcons may soon have a new quarterback.

Tight end Kyle Pitts, represented by the same agent as Deshaun Watson, tweeted and then quickly deleted, “It’s about to get scary in Atlanta.”

Unless a tiger has gotten loose from the local zoo, it means that Watson could be continuing his career in his hometown.

Watson is currently choosing between the Falcons, Panthers, and Saints.

That would also mean Matt Ryan will be traded, as soon as today. As previously explained, his cap charge spikes by $7.5 million if he’s on the roster tomorrow. Even if it happens today, the Falcons would absorb $40 million in dead money.

But they’d emerge with a new franchise quarterback, a player who would be with the Falcon for years to come.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m. ET: Pitts claim that the deleted tweet referred to the addition of cornerback Casey Hayward. Sure it did.

  1. Watson will be the QB, with Ryan going to Indy or mentoring Lance in SF …

  2. When he said scary he meant that the team will trade for Mayfield and his career will be wasted.

  3. For years, Arthur Blank and the Falcons boasted about drafting and rostering only ‘high character’ players. Desperation brings about strange bedfellows, as the old saying goes.

  4. He followed that tweet up with 1 saying he was referring to their recent signing of Hayward.

  5. “Even if it happens today, the Falcons would absorb $40 million in dead money.”

    That seems like a lot!

  6. He can’t possibly be telling the truth can he, Mr. Tom Brady is going to the 49ers?

  7. It’s not go get scary you have no defense and no one else to throw the ball to you the only target there so it will not be scary unless y’all upgrade to get more talented players

  8. Does Ryan reunite with Kyle in SF for one last hurrah while Lance marinates another year?

  9. Ryan to Indy. It makes sense. ATL gets him out of the NFC. Indy has loads of cap space,.. and I’m sure they don’t have to give away the farm to get him.

  10. Please explain the mathematics of fielding a full roster with a $40 M cap charge + $35 M salary for Watson. They already have $21.5 M of dead cap money That leaves $111.5 M for other 52 players.

Sounds like Texans II to me.

  11. If that is referring to Watson, NONE of the other 3 NFC south teams believe you….
Falcons about to cripple their next 3-5 seasons… They are NO threat!

  12. Honestly Atlanta is the last place I thought he’d sign with. Heck, I thought the Browns had a better chance still with Panthers second and Saints in the lead. We’ll see…

  13. good, now the falcons can continue to be a middle of the pack team at the best. here are some stats:
texans- 3 yrs with fitzpatrick, hoyer, and osweiler as qb- record 27-21 w/2 playoff appearances
texans- 4 yrs with watson as qb- record- 29-35 w/2 playoff appreances and those numbers were with having hopkins 3/4 yrs. WOW really generational numbers!

ATL was 1 game better over the same time period that watson was texan qb, so this is really just a lateral move, except Ryan got them to the SB.

  14. The Falcons roster was terrible without Watson, and if you give up picks and players for Watson it will even be worse. This young kid doesn’t understand.

  15. When it is all said and done, Ryan will have had a better career than Watson.

Ryan I believe can still play well now if he has time to throw.

  16. Wow. Matt Ryan deserves better than this. The team chasing after a 4-12 serial abuser, teammates tweeting about it before the ink is dry – what a mess.

Ryan is pretty much the one thing that has kept the team in the realm of relevant for his entire tenure. And this is the thanks he gets.

Here’s hoping that if they do ditch him for a 4-12 serial abuser, they at least let him choose where he goes. Give him the option of a good team, like Indy or San Fran. If they dump him off to Houston or Cleveland, that’s adding deep insult to injury.

  17. Arthur Blank has never recovered from having his 4th quarter dance at the Superbowl interrupted by the Patriots.
    Beautiful thing.

Sure, because we all know the Atlanta Falcons as presently structured will become instantly “scary” simply by adding a 32-year-old cornerback, albeit a good one.
Kyle Pitts is just another immature Twitter user who acted without thinking, and now he’s making a feeble and transparent efort to cover his rear end.

  19. matt ryan will have a better record than deshaun watson, regardless of where he goes.

If I am the Texans, Kyle Pitts 100% would have to be in the deal.
    ===
    That would be hilarious.

  21. People have found Watson guilty when the Grand Jury did not charge him with any of the crimes… They reviewed all 22 cases and selected 9 that might have been chargeable under the law. The Falcons will be a better football team with Watson at QB so this is a no-brainer…

  22. Unless Ryan is part of the trade package… makes sense as a mentor for Davis Mills

  23. Hey, I’m just a guy posting a comment on the internet, but it seems to me that any team with a lot of holes to fill will greatly hamper their ability to fill those holes by trading for Watson. They’ll have to give up at least two top players, three firsts and I can’t remember – a second or third?

You’re diminishing your roster of talent while gaining a good QB, sure. But now you’re facing three drafts without a first round pick.

I’m kind of amazed that teams are willing to pay this price – especially considering we don’t know how long his suspension will last. This could very well turn into a Ray Rice situation – Goodell suspends Watson for 8 games but increases it to the full season because of public backlash.

The chance for a 37 year old to chase a ring instead of playing out the string on a bottom 5 roster in a total rebuild that’s 3 years away from escaping cap hell?

    Oh no how terrible…

  25. So Watson wants to go to SF. No kidding, so do 20 other Qbs on average to below average teams. Carolina, and Atlanta will be a wasteland for years with this trade. Cant figure how the Saints can possibly clear enough space to trade for him and put a competitive team on the field.

  26. Go ahead. Start bragging about your super-team. Except it didn’t work out so well for the last one.

  27. The cupboard is bare in Atlanta. Even with Deshaun Watson, they don’t scare anybody.

  28. Money on scary bad if Atlanta gets Watson they are already lacking a lot of talent and would have no good drafts picks or decent cap space to actually improve the team so it is a desperation move that usually always fail.

Could see either Indy or Seattle having the cap space and need to trade for Ryan. Everybody else would either need to cut some players or ask a lot to rework their contracts which became much harder yesterday with having to always be within the cap.

  29. Maybe he is referring to the fact that the Falcons have lost their top two receivers and he is scared that he is going to get killed this season.

  30. Scary as in the guy went 4 and 12 the last time he played. The guy is so overrated it’s comical. Great players elevate the players around him. Not only does this guy have questionable character but he’s the plane, not the pilot as some sorry team is soon to find out.

  31. Falcons can dump the dead cap money this season and go 5-12 or worse. Then get a good draft pick next year to help out Watson. If they have a top 3 pick next year, plus Watson, plus tons of cap money you haters are going to be changing your tune.

  32. So glad the Pats aren’t in on bidding wars with the cap spiking and teams flush with 300 mil in CBA cash.

The whole league thinks this is a video game.

  33. Sounds right. Obviously this guy knows something and was told to button his lip. Mayfiled may be the better story. How can you play for a team you beleive doesnt want you. I would be pd off myself if I was him. I read on this blog that he would be a great fit in Detroit. Who knows, Mayfield to the Lions, Ryan to the Browns, Goeff to Disney Land…………

  34. Watson is out here dragging out his choice like he’s Aaron Rodgers. Except one is the reigning MVP who gets in the Playoffs every year with basically one receiver.. the other can’t even stay loyal to one masseuse and has looming issues still at hand

So Matt Ryan to the Browns?

    Mayfield – Seahawks
    Watson – Falcons
    Ryan – Texans
    Garoppolo – Browns

All I did was give the rest of the story that was left out at the time and then updated
