The Cowboys are set to add their first free agent of the offseason.

Wide receiver James Washington‘s agent Drew Rosenhaus announced that his client has agreed to a deal with the team. It’s a one-year pact for the former Steeler.

Washington was a 2018 second-round pick and he played in 60 regular season games for Pittsburgh. He caught 114 passes for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns in those appearances and had seven catches for 109 yards and a touchdown in two playoff outings.

The Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Browns and saw Cedrick Wilson sign with the Dolphins, so Washington joins CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup on the receiver depth chart in Dallas.

  1. Underutilized in Pit in favor of Claypool. Could end up becoming a real player in Dallas.

  2. Seems to have talent. I’m not sure if it was how he was used or his QB situation but the numbers don’t match.

  3. Just give Dallas the NFC east trophy. Dallas is loaded and the draft hasn’t even got here yet.

  4. Washington’s catch percentage from last year was exactly 50%.. It’s looking more & more like Dallas is bargain basement shopping at Goodwill.

  5. He couldn’t put up big numbers with Big Ben and now he’s going to be a real player for Dallas !! Let’s just hand him the trophy.

  6. Here in Pittsburgh he wasn’t utilized as much as one would think a former second round pick would be. He’s a deep threat with loads of talent and consistently makes contested catches. He didn’t have a role in our offense due to Juju and Claypool. However, I would argue that he’s more talented than both. He deserves a fresh start with a new team.

  7. He didn’t have a lot of drops but he certainly had some costly ones. Only 24 catches too. It doesn’t appear as if the Steelers wanted him back and there must not have been much of a market for him to only sign a one-year deal.

  8. He’s not being asked to be a 1 and carry the load, he’s being signed as a complimentary and supporting piece in a very decent group, a group that will get most defensive coordinators full attention

  9. As a Steelers fan, I really liked him. I truly think he’s better than JuJu and Clypool but Ben’s arm just wasn’t there the last few seasons.

  10. I always thought he wasn’t being utilized enough in Pittsburgh. That being said, he tends to drop passes a tad too often. I hope he shines, though.

  11. Tomlin had him in his bad boy house. He would make a play then on the bench, drop a ball on the bench. Cowboys will get a palyer

  12. Washington was a wasted 2nd rd pick by Pitt in 2018. Then they took teammate QB Rudolph in next round. 2 draft busts, same yr, and same school – OKla St. Bet they stay away from drafting OSU Cowboys for a while.
