Defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis has found a new team.

According to multiple reports, Ioannidis has landed with the Panthers on a one-year deal. No other terms have been disclosed.

Ioannidis was released by the Commanders earlier this week and his agent said the move came after the team told his client that they would not be cutting him. The move provided Washington with a good chunk of cap space, however, and that proved to be too much for them to resist.

Ioannidis spent the last six seasons in Washington and started 40 of the 73 games he played for the team. He had 38 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 16 appearances during the 2021 season.

  1. He was very good for Washington. He was their sack leader one season. PFF grades favored him, for what it’s worth, and fans liked him.

What happened was when Rivera came he put in a 4-3, and so Ioannidis instead of being a starting 3-4 end got boxed into being a 4-3 tackle — which put him in reserve behind Allen and Payne.

But when there was playing time to be had he was great.

  2. He played for rhule at temple so this makes sense. Not that hard to figure out here.

  3. Unless you live in the dmv you don’t know about the roid accusations. I personally wanted him back on my team, but I suppose his backloaded contract was too much. It’s a shame.

  4. Good player wide body but Daron Payne was more disruptive (no slap jokes please) player and I can see why we kept Payne instead of Ioannidis who was often hurt these last two years… welcome to the NFL draft and the Washington Commanders select Jordan Davis…Georgia

    …I can hear it!!!
