Russell Gage thought it was a prank when Tom Brady called to recruit him to Tampa Bay

Russell Gage was 4 years old when Tom Brady was selected in the NFL draft, so Gage can’t remember a time when Brady wasn’t in the NFL. And when Brady contacted Gage this week to tell him how much he wanted to be teammates, Gage couldn’t believe his ears.

Gage, a wide receiver who was formally introduced today in Tampa after signing with the Buccaneers in free agency, revealed that Brady called him on Monday night, and at first he thought it was a prank call.

The 26-year-old Gage said he has admired Brady for so long that when he got a call from Brady saying that he’d be a great fit with the Bucs, he wondered if it could be real.

It was real, and it was spectacular for Gage to hear that Brady wants to throw him the ball this season. Gage has spent the last four years with the Falcons and last season caught 66 passes for 770 yards, and Brady would love to see Gage become even more productive in the Bucs’ offense.

  1. Brady using the Patriot way to pay all these players. Funneling money through his TB12 foundation to pay them under the table to stay under the cap. Truly outrageous that goodell never investigates this but he already knows it’s going on.

  2. Do you ever think the current Green Bay quarterback would do something like this?

  3. It was real, and it was spectacular
    _________

I see what you did there.

  4. Gotta love NFL stories. On field. Off field. Never slows down and there’s never really an off season.

  5. This LaBron James strategy of dictating to organizations where and if you’ll play and recruiting your friends to play there can backfire in a huge way as it has for the Lakers!

    I’ll never like this!

  6. Wow, Brady is QB, OC and talent scout in one person. Looks like he’s training for a higher goal.

  7. Can you imagine what a rush it must have been to get a call from the GOAT and have him ASK you to come play on his team? For a professional athlete does it really get any better?

  8. Why so much hate for a guy who takes so much less than what his true market value is so he can put the right supporting parts around him. If anyone is entitled to do this, it should be a man who has played for 22 years and is still playing at the highest level. Basketball and football are completely different FYI.

Brady doesn’t recruit his “friends.” Other than Gronk (who has shown that he can still catch & block at near the top of his game), Brady recruits talented players who can come in and help at a cost the team can afford. I’m sure Brady would have loved to throw to Devante Adams but there is no money for that.

  10. Brady is without a doubt the GOAT but he’s also an insufferable fraud. Gage will be singing a different tune after he drops a couple of passes or runs the wrong route and Tom gets in his ear hole.

And why is there no money for that? LOL

Hint: There’s a reason why TB lost last year in the playoffs and are overrated with their top heavy rosters.

Good thing Goodell’s henchmen were around in the SB 2 years ago, where Goodell doesn’t want to see back to back SB winners, where it benefitted Brady.

3 INTs in a conf title game is horrible as is disappearing for an entire half with your thumbs up your butt with the media not saying one word about it.

  12. Brady the GM recruited AB and it blew up in his face and Arian’s face on live TV. Beware of Brady the GM.

If he drops a couple of passes or runs the wrong route he should have Tom in his ear hole.

  14. Recruiting AB “blew up in his face”?? Better check who delivered in playoffs to get that 7th ring jack. Not that GOAT wouldn’t have found another way.

  15. This guy is like Jarvis Landry, except for $6 million less. Looks like a win-win.

So why did the Patriots not only lose but get humiliated in the playoffs?

Hint: there’s a reason Bill Belichick’s disastrous playoff record without Tom Brady as his QB continues.
