Kicker Matt Gay officially is returning to the Rams.

The team announced Gay signed his restricted free agent tender. The one-year tender is worth $2.54 million.

Gay entered the NFL as a fifth-round choice of the Buccaneers in 2019. He lasted only one season in Tampa, going 27-of-35 on field goals and 43-of-48 on extra points.

He joined the Rams in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021.

Gay was 32-of-34 on his field goal attempts last season and made 48-of-49 PATs.

In his career, Gay is 73-of-85 on his field goal attempts and 107-of-113 on extra points.

  1. The year he was with the Bucs–he’d MAKE a 55 yarder into the wind, then miss a 27 yard chip shot to win the game. They lost two games in that 7-9 season where he literally missed an extra point kick as time expired. To his credit, he seems to have fixed that

  2. Matt Gay was really great for the Rams last year. I suspect he was injured at some point during the playoffs, because his kicks didn’t have quite the same authority or accuracy. Case-in-point was his missed 47-yard-FG against the Bucs, which fell four or five yards short(!?!?). But I’m very happy that they’ve re-signed him. Kicker is the most underrated and under-valued position in today’s NFL.

  3. Huge Buccaneers fan ,but I hope they NEVER draft another kicker ever again. They just can’t judge the talent needed to pick a kicker. They do much better signing veterans who have experience.
