Draft prospect Adam Anderson charged with rape

Former Georgia linebacker Adam Anderson was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday, charged with rape of a 21-year-old, ESPN reports.

Anderson once was projected as a first-round choice in this week’s NFL draft. Now, he’s slated for an arraignment June 13.

Anderson was arrested on Nov. 10 after a woman accused him of raping her in a house in Athens, Georgia, on Oct. 29. She told police that, after having drinks, she woke up to find Anderson raping her. The woman reported it to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department that day.

Georgia suspended him from the football team Nov. 2 after being notified of the allegation.

Anderson, who has been training in south Florida, had a private workout for NFL scouts from 17 teams at a high school in Athens in March, according to ESPN.

“Adam respectfully reminds the public and his supporters that he was not permitted by law to participate in the grand jury proceeding, which is totally under the control of the prosecution,” Anderson’s attorney, Steve Sadow, said in a statement to ESPN. “This means his defense was not presented or argued to the grand jurors. Adam will plead not guilty to the charge and continue his fight in court to clear his name and reputation. Adam once again appeals to the good citizens of Athens-Clarke County to keep an open mind and not prejudge his case.”

A second woman has accused Anderson of sexually assaulting her in neighboring Oconee County, Georgia, in October 2020, per ESPN. Anderson has not been charged in that case.

  1. I’m only here for the, “Hes rising up the Cleveland Browns draft board” comments.

  2. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Baltimore and Dallas are all very interested with him as a n UDFA after the draft and payoff occurs.

  3. This is how the process is supposed to work. The woman went to the police immediately, so if something happened, he’ll have to face the consequences. None of this ambiguity years later and accusations of what might have happened. He’ll also get to defend himself in court on what happened, and she’ll put forth her side through the prosecution.

  4. If cleared… he deserves a 2nd chance for the NFL. Until then, I will think less of any team that values a discount on a NFL prospect over their own integrity. Ahem… Browns.

  5. Wonder if any of the commenters here have a thought about why this guy was indicted criminally yet Watson was not….perhaps it has something to do with the ‘evidence’ in the respective cases ?

  6. It’s absurd for his attorney to state he wasn’t a witness in his grand jury proceeding, as if he’s being singled out for some shabby treatment. That’s NORMAL in grand jury indictments! If these rape allegations are true, I’m more concerned with getting him off of the streets than his NFL career, because this is serial rapist behavior and the public needs to be protected from him!

  7. If only he did something like this 20 more times he’d get 250 million guaranteed.

  8. The purpose of a grand jury is to determine if there’s enough evidence to proceed with a criminal trial.
Of course the accused isn’t involved in that process.
I wonder if his defense attorney is also his football agent desperately trying to salvage a payday.

  9. Before we convict this kid in the court of public opinion lets remember what happened to Brian Banks

1000% different situations, if this one proves to be true. We have seen false allegations before.

Watson never held anybody against their will or forced them to do anything. Not a watson fan but his actions are super bad taste being nude getting a massage.

    These allegations are rape.

  11. The difference between this dude and Watson is Watson is a pro that everyone knows and have billionaires ensuring he gets off. Campaign donoations speak loudly to judges. This dude does not have a PR team or a billionaire advocatung him. Let true justice be served either guilty or innocent.
