Report: All’s quiet on the Deebo Samuel trade front

Deebo Samuel took to Twitter to complain about people talking about his situation without knowing the facts. Unfortunately, he provided no facts to clear up things.

People are going to continue talking about the receiver’s situation as long as he remains in San Francisco without a long-term deal.

Will the 49ers trade him or not? That still is the question.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there is no sense of “any movement” on Samuel’s trade request. One call, of course, could entice the 49ers to move Samuel, but it’s going to take a lot for that to happen.

Samuel had 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns last season, and he added a passing touchdown. He is due a big (BIG!) raise over the $4.89 million he is scheduled to make in the final year of his rookie deal.

If the 49ers are going to make Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall choice in 2021, their starter this season, then the young quarterback needs Samuel to remain happy and healthy . . . and on the 49ers’ roster and not somebody else’s.

  1. He’s super valuable to the Niners but his value drops with a new team and a different offensive system. Add that to the likelihood he is not a team guy and the Niners have no chance of getting what they are asking for him.

  2. I’m sure there was plenty of interest until teams learned 1) what SF wanted for him and 2) how much he expected on the new contract. I’m sure that threw a bit of water on the fire.

package deebo and Jimmy for two 1s and a mid level vet starter

Or not package Jimmy G since no one trading for Samuel is going to want a $25 Million backup QB.

  4. Deebo is a special talent, yes. Shanahan and Lynch probably think his offensive system can get 70% of the production Deebo did out of whoever they put in that spot, which I don’t fully disagree with

  5. Rumor out Jets made a nice offer of 4 picks plus Elijah Moore. I love me some Deebo, but I would take that trade

  6. Let this be a lesson to loud-mouthed snowflakes – you will find getting your way to be a two way street. Your team has your rights and they can offload you for what they think you are worth. Real men honor their contracts.
