Kyler Murray is very happy to be reunited with Hollywood Brown

Prior to the 2020 draft, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray made it known he wanted the team to draft receiver CeeDee Lamb, a former Oklahoma teammate. The Cardinals didn’t, passing on Lamb with the eighth overall pick.

Last night, the Cardinals came around. They traded for receiver Marquis “Hollywood” Brown, a fellow first-round selection in 2019 and a former Murray college teammate.

After some awkward moments in the offseason between player and team, Murray is very happy about the move.

Let’s run it back!” Murray tweeted. “Hollywood to the desert… Y’all welcome my boy!”

Brown is seen by Murray, we’re told, as the perfect complement to DeAndre Hopkins. Brown gives them speed on the outside, something the Arizona offense desperately needed.

Defenses will now have to back away a bit more from the line of scrimmage, opening up the underneath passing routes — and possibly creating more paths through which Murray can run.

Brown fills the void created by the departure of Christian Kirk in free agency. Brown’s presence also addresses the fact that 2019 second-rounder speedster Andy Isabella has never lived up to his billing. He was a healthy scratch for much of the 2021 season, appearing in only eight games and making only one catch.

Don’t be shocked if the Cardinals try to trade Isabella during the remainder of the draft. With Brown now on the team, they can finally move on from the former Massachusetts standout. As a senior, he had 102 catches, 1,698 yards, and 13 receiving touchdowns.

Also, don’t be shocked if the Cardinals and Murray get an extension worked out. They weren’t on the same page for weeks. They now seem to be singing from the same sheet music.

  1. Cards offense in now loaded: Murray, Hop, Hollywood, AJ Green, Rondale Moore, Ertz and James Conner. Pick your poison.

  2. The Cardinals are going to have to deal with Hollywood Brown’s contract demands too. He was another one who deleted all his social media posts about his team. He wasn’t working out with Lamar Jackson and Rashad Bateman either. The rumor was that Brown was looking for over $20 million a season and didn’t want to wait to get it. Once the Ravens announced that they were picking up his 5th year option Brown was looking to get out. The Cardinals are going to have to extend Murray and Brown soon or these guys are going to have complete meltdowns. It sure sounds like Marquise Brown likes to listen to advice from his cousin Antonio.

  3. Most Cardinals fans don’t want to welcome him. They’d prefer you both leave. Two of the biggest me first divas in the sport now on the same team.

  4. Let’s see how happy he is after Brickhands Brown drops every third pass…….

  5. “run it back” 🤔

Had Kyler Murray has won anything to run back?

Steve Keims comment when asked if he hopes this will make Kyler happy “It better,” “A lot.”

    😂

  6. So they have a WR that can stretch the field so Murray can run around? Seems like a good reason to make a trade. Sarcasm totally implied.

  7. Kyler runs 7 yards, followed by 2 incompletions. Yes, this is the offense to fear in the NFC West!

  8. Two middling talents. With their powers combined, the Cardinals will go 8-9 in perpetuity.

  9. He’ll run it back….until someone touches him, then he’ll go straight to the ground.

6 of the 7 guys you listed were on the team last year, and what did that get them??

More detail shows it will be 8-0 then 0-9 to finish 8-9.

So, Murray doesn’t consider Hopkins to be a fast WR?
    —————————————————-

Did you watch last year at all? Hop is a possession receiver and TD machine, but he is no longer fast. He will still get 8 catches for 80yds, but you won’t see him get 4 for 155yds any more.

  13. It still doesn’t change the fact that Kyler is overrated. Great fantasy player, not so much in real life.

  14. After Jackson got hurt last season, Brown absolutely quit on the Ravens. His last 6 games were one business decision after another – he may have gotten tackled a total of 2 times. Catch and fall. Drop. Jog through a route. Catch and fall. Repeat. Have fun Cards fans, the fact you paid only less a third for him than AJ Brown is highway robbery by the Ravens.

Hopkins has never been about speed. He has hands, moves, runs great routes, great on 50/50 balls and red zone. He’s not a speed guy at all, kind of like the legend he replaced in AZ.

    =========================

They finished 8th in the league in total offense (yardage). Rams were 9th. Cards were top 10 in both rushing and passing. I don’t think they’re an elite offense, but they are a very good one. They will be elite if they clean up the penalties and improve a bit in the red zone.

Murray missed 3 games, Hopkins missed 7, Ertz wasn’t on the team for the first 6.

  18. Smart money doesn’t give Kyler the big payoff, but I’m pretty sure Arizona is going to do it. Take Malik Willis and try again. To this point both have won the same amount of playoff games.

  19. Hollywood has had as many highlight drops as he has had catches. Ravens won this trade.

DEFINITELY good enough to grab a solid 3rd or 4th place finish in the NFC West.

  21. Diggs had a positive impact on the Bill’s passing attack because Allen is a true franchise/elite QB who was ready for a leap. That’s not the case with Murray who is at best a good second tier QB.

  22. Cards are a total mirage. Fake front runners, they will win the same amount of games this year maybe less.

  23. Cardinals depth chart career numbers: 24,289 yards/164td, best in the NFL. Ravens depth chart career numbers: Ravens: 1,229 yards/3td, easily the worst in the NFL and unless they add another veteran could be one the least experienced/worst ever heading into a training camp.

  24. Good luck with those two upcoming contracts and neither player looks like they will give an inch (will holdout if needed). Murray is going to want at least $45 million a for 5 years fully guaranteed and Hollywood $25 million 4 year deal with at least $60 million (thanks to the deal the Eagles gave to a 2nd tier receiver). Wonder of the Bidwill’s actually have that much cash on hand to cover the guaranteed parts of those contracts, probably around $230 million.
