After putting together the best season of his career with the Raiders in 2020, receiver Nelson Agholor signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Patriots in free agency.

But his first season with New England was a disappointment.

Agholor caught just 37 passes for 473 yards with three touchdowns in 15 games with 13 starts. In 2020, he had 48 receptions for 896 yards with eight TDs.

But Agholor isn’t sweating his lack of production in 2021, conveying a sense of optimism when speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

“The best part about it, Year Two in the Patriots’ system is when guys really get going,” Agholor said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “I feel comfortable, I’m excited to have my best season with the Patriots, and show why I’m here.”

Agholor added, via Mike Giardi of NFL Media, that he wants tomato it a memorable season.

“I’m at my best when I just have fun and play fast,” Agholor said. “I’m a competitor naturally. I love to compete. I love to play the game.”

Agholor was third on the team in receiving yards last season behind Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, and Hunter Henry. The team has added DeVante Parker via trade and receiver Tyquan Thornton in the draft for 2022.

  1. I think he’ll be fine. If he has a good year, I can see him possibly getting an extension even maybe during camp or preseason to bring down his number a bit.

  2. Another bust FA signing by BB. Awful GM, the most overrated coach in history

But better than ANY coach the Bills have ever or will ever have.

Maybe, but he won more Super Bowls with Brady than Bill Walsh did with Montana.

at 13 million/year he is performing relative to his contract. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see him outperform his contract but he is by no means a bust. Save the bust label for T Hill in Miami with Tua

  6. here in philly we know nellie tries hard, is a good dude and teammate. but between the drops and the balls he couldn’t track well enough to make a play when the play was there, nellie’s mind seemed to betray him at the worst times.

hope he’s right but usually by the seventh or so year, a player is what he is……

  7. Josh McDaniels under utilized him possibly to protect a rookie QB. I expect him to be utilized more this season and have a bounce back year. I still think Tyquan Thornton has a higher ceiling and is the future for the Patriots.

  8. I guess time will tell….I also wouldn’t be shocked to see him get traded… doubt they would release him due to cap hit…. Guess he’s here this year unless a trade…. 13 million is sadly reasonable for a WR2 these days….

  9. He’s on his third team, not sure a “second year” is going to make a difference.

  10. Agholor has always been a tough guy to figure out. Just look at the ups & downs from year-to-year. He was awful in 2016. In 2017 & 2018 he was very good. Especially in the Super Bowl. But in 2019 he was horrible again. 2020 with the Raiders was his best year yet. But he followed that with disappointing 2021 with the Patriots. After 7 years in the league, I’m still not sure what he is.

  11. Break a 900 yards in a season before you turn 30 before you start talking about how your going to “get going”.

  12. Maybe our new slot guy??
Fast & shifty….Bourne/Parker outside while Thornton learns or if Parker gets hurt..??

  13. Told you all : it was Brady’s system all the time. Without Brady, the system won’t work, just like the offense system in Packers works because of Rodgers.

It is really funny that Belichick and his believers really believe that Belichick could come up with some schemes and designs that no other coaches could design with Brady, and no other QB can learn, even after two decades.

  14. Brady didn’t bring a system with him from Michigan…. He learned Bills system, bought in & it brought out best in them both…. Brady is running that system now down in Tampa…
Bill is now tweaking his system around Mac & his strengths &mac has also bought in to the base system Bill runs…. It looks like yet another great pairing of football minds

The Pats will not be having any one WR be a focal point for a 1000 yard season, unless a HOF caliber WR like an Edelman or Welker/Moss, so you can stop with the fantasy football demands. No one cares about that.

Bourne and Meyers both went for 800 each last year, which is so rare, it only happened with Moss/Welker, it never even happened with Branch/Givens with Brady. LOL

It happened with a rookie QB.

Agholor is a good QB who can be a piece of the growth puzzle here.

No real Pats fan cares about what the final stat lines are, if the players are consistent and positively producing, it doesn’t matter who gets it.

That’s the issue with the rest of the NFL and why they don’t get it. Mac Jones’s favorite WR will be the open one, just like what Brady USED to be like before he became snobby Brady losing huge playoff games and SBs from 2007-2012, forcing balls and being predictable.

Don’t look know, but NE has a very formidable and balanced offense with a QB who won’t care about stats or playing favorites.

  16. Then he should return the “Year 1” money after those results….

  17. Mac Jones’s favorite wr will be the open one.

    ++++++++++++++

If he can see open one on time, 2/10th of a second slower, the open one is not open anymore.

BTW, watch Brady’s 700th TD in OT against Bills. The receiver would NOT be open with any other QB.

    N’Keal Harry. That’s a bust.

  19. Brady learned Belichick’s system

    ++++++++

That is like claiming that modern day engineers learned from people of 500 years ago on how to build planes, because those people dreamed of flying and had vision of flying like birds.

  20. Dude should have stuck with Vegas where he could be a contender but he chased the money in Beantown. Not much sympathy from me.

andy: pretty sure nellie (having banked $39M at the end of this season) would not be looking to you for your sympathy,,, a

and the 10-7 pats and the 10-7 raiders look to be about equal in the contender category: way behind buffalo kc and cincy…

  22. New englands qb and receivers are awful, the team is irrelevant, and the tears of the fans sustain me.

  23. Hmmm. Not sure I agree with your math here, Myles: Agholor was third on the team in receiving yards last season behind Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, and Hunter Henry.
