The Bears are bringing in another quarterback behind Justin Fields.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Chicago is signing Nate Peterman to a one-year contract.

Peterman spent the last three seasons with the Raiders, primarily as the club’s third quarterback. He appeared in one game in 2020, attempting five passes. Then he played one game in 2021 but didn’t make a throw.

Peterman joined the Raiders after a failed stint with the Bills, who released him after he threw three interceptions in a Week Nine start in 2018. Peterman also infamously threw five interceptions in the first half of his first career start against the Chargers back in 2017.

The Bears now have Peterman, Trevor Siemian, and Ryan Willis at quarterback behind Fields. The club agreed to release Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles late last month.

  1. So not only did the bears not get Fields any weapons or help on offense, but then the team hires THE WORST QB IN THE HISTORY OF QB’S to back him up… one of the worst franchises in the league just keeps getting worse

  2. Yes, this is a great signing…….if the Bears were the Raiders.

  3. Calm down everyone. Peterman is currently just the 3rd string qb. No reason to overreact.

  4. Poles is a Brand New GM, but his draft and free agency moves do not inspire confidence.

  5. Head scratcher unless they just need another arm for camp. Even then why not get an undrafted guy who costs less? I’m assuming the plan isn’t to roll into the season with Peterman as the backup. If it is that does not bode well for this new regime in Chicago.

  6. When did Nathan decide to go by Nate? Maybe hoping we’d forget who he really was.

  7. The fact that Peterman is put on rosters tells you he must be very knowledgeable and professional.

  8. Some awful takes here from people not understanding why guys like Peterman are brought into camps.
