Raiders have been plagued by “financial disorder,” with employees who complained about it quickly let go

The revolving door at the Raiders’ facility in recent months has raised eyebrows throughout the league. The New York Times has tried to get to the bottom of it. And while the Times has advanced the ball, it feels like there’s more to the story that remains untold.

The Times spoke to more than a dozen former employees, who described what the Times characterized as “financial disorder.” The problem consisted of “lax controls” over the spending of money, including the “bungling” of tax payments. No one asserted that the issues constituted any type of crime.

The Times explains that erroneous information on the company’s books “can generally lead to problems with creditors, regulators, the league and others.” There is no contention that any general or specific problems have arisen, yet, due to the “financial disorder.”

The Times also reports that employees who raised concerns about the situation “were often ignored or pushed out and given settlements and nondisclosure agreements to keep them quiet.”

“If anyone complained, they were let go,” former Raiders human resources employee Nicole Adams told the Times. Adams contends she was “pushed out” in 2020. She declined to sign a severance agreement that would have included an NDA. She also said that former interim president Dan Ventrelle, who worked at the time as the team’s general counsel, “joked he would be ready to settle if anyone came forward with a charge.”

Ventrelle made headlines eight days ago with his abrupt departure, followed by a claim that he conveyed allegations of workplace misconduct to the league and was fired because of it. The Times article contains no new information as to the allegations Ventrelle received and reported.

Perhaps the most damning claim in the Times article is that the “Raiders kind of operate back in the Stone Age.” That quote came from Adams. An unnamed former employee said that “everything was still very much paper, files, boxes, warehouses.”

While there are no violations of league rules in using low-tech processes, the Times article paints a picture of incompetence with affirmative efforts to conceal the same. There’s nothing yet that crosses the kind of lines that teams like Washington allegedly have crossed. Apparently, there won’t be until Ventrelle starts offering up details, in whatever context he chooses to do so.

  1. When is the Offield crap with this organization ever going to end?

  2. Not gonna lie, this all seems like a well orchestrated witch hunt on the Raiders. It is no secret Goodell wants a local Vegas owner for the team….

  3. Dysfunctional team, mix in the city of Las Vegas and the sky is the limit for dysfunction.

  4. Raiders doing Raider things. Don’t cash that check Adams, it won’t clear, hahahaha

  5. My Raiders are known for dysfunction. Terrible upper management, worse GM and HC decisions compounded by no fans because the keep moving. Las Vegas was by far the worst possible place for this team to move. What a total disaster organization.

  6. After the Bears fleeced the Raiders in 2018, I knew there was going to be decline. We see that decline now that there is no trade value in return and they wasted all their picks on a WR that will not have the same production on this dismal roster. GEEZ! Never thought that it would get this bad!

  7. Makes you wonder how many in the front office of the Raiders are Al’s old guys or if Mark Davis ran this franchise into the ground all by himself.

  8. I wonder how Ziegler/McDaniels feel about their choice.

Mindboggling to leave NE and choose rhe Raiders.

  9. Employees and outsiders are getting too powerful. If you want so much control start your own business.

  10. Mark Davis fell right into their trap. They used him to capture the lucrative Las Vegas gambling market and soon they’ll yank the franchise from under his feet. The NFL knew they’d get into the gambling business eventually. Something like…”let’s get the dufus with the bowl haircut that we blocked from going to LA and convince him to be The Shield bearer in Vegas and we’ll never have to worry about the Raiders moving ever again!” If Mark Davis still owns the Raiders in five years, someone in NYC messed up and heads will roll.

    Just lose baby.
    —————-
They’ve been doing that for nearly 40 years now.

  12. I’m just in pure shock. Mark Davis looks like he’s just oozing with competence and capable of running the tightest of ships

  13. After the Raiders drafted Jamarcus Russell 1st overall in the 2007 NFL draft(and his subsequent busting)…the Davis’ should’ve been forced to immediately sell the team.

  14. It would be interesting to know how much insight or oversight the league even has into franchise operations. It certainly feels inconsistent and even random depending on the issue or franchise. And of course the league office is corrupt to the core anyway so it’s like trying to decide which mob family to root for.

    _________

The NFL did not need to use Mark Davis to move to Las Vegas. Vegas wanted a franchise and the NFL finally came out of the dark ages by allowing the Raiders move there. There was no sort of big conspiracy or underhanded plot involved.

The Bears fleeced the Raiders? You mean with the Khalil Mack trade? The one that was supposed to get the Bears to the Super Bowl, but never did? The one that ended 4 years later with Khalil Mack going to the Chargers, with his bloated contract? Yep, the Bears sure won that deal. FIFY: the only person who won that deal was Mack, with his giant contract.

  17. I read somewhere this is the result of the findings made by the management consultants brought in by Davis. Looks as though he’s cleaning house…

  18. I had a heads up last year when one of my lyft riders told me her best friend was recently fired by the Raiders and made a scapegoat by Mark Badain

Six months later Mark Badan and a whole floor of company men were shown the door

Just goes to show as you never know who you are meeting and what their story is or was

    Go Raiders

  19. Al looks down from football heaven: “Son get rid of that hair style.”

  20. The primary difference between Raiders’ ownership and washington’s ownership is that the former is simply incompetent while the latter is sleazy.

  21. “Raiders kind of operate back in the Stone Age.” That quote came from Adams. An unnamed former employee said that “everything was still very much paper, files, boxes, warehouses.” = The new stadium has an incinerator in the next room.

    +++++++++++++++++

You still thinking about Khalil Mack, Raider’s fan?

If you have to ask a question about something you’re thinking about still, it’s obvious that your ins3curities are showing. The main point was about the blatant and obvious decline of the Raiders. R-E-L-A-X! Adams is going to have a 650 yd 4 TD season with Carr attempting to throw to him.

  23. At this point the Mack trade is a moot point. Let it go. No one “won” the trade in the end.

Mack, as another fan said, won the trade with $$$ but more over he has a serious chance at getting a ring with the Chargers. They are legit contenders for the foreseeable future.

    – Bears fan

  24. “At this point the Mack trade is a moot point.”

Maybe for the Bears, not the Raiders. The Chargers, Chiefs and Broncos will be fighting it out in that division while the Raiders go down the drain, hahahaha.

Mack is coming for Carr, you can take that to the bank.

btw…I think the Bears definitely got more out of that trade than Raiders, so he’s right and you’re in denial.

    – Chargers fan

  25. Sounds like Mark Davis is running that team with his hair on fire. It has been been permanently burned into shape of a bowl.

  26. sounds like the Raiders have always been horrible, just like the Lions and you have been wrong for a decade or so and didn’t know it until your bs ran out.

  27. The Raiders are their own revenue source aren’t they? I mean, most owners have capital from other ventures and the teams are somewhat of a hobby or just part of their portfolio. I’d imagine you would be meticulous with your money and records if the brand was paying for itself.

  28. Imagine a Charge fan watching game 17 and the coach takes a timeout instead of letting his team ride into the playoffs and thinking “yeah, we are on our way”.

  29. I’m sure Mark Davis isn’t as rich as the other owners but this seems like an obvious attempt to force him out. The league has been trying to do this ever since Goodell became commissioner. Whether you like the Raiders or hate them you can’t pretend the NFL and specifically Goodell aren’t liars. Gruden was 100% wrong to say what he said….but he said it 10 years ago when he wasn’t employed by an NFL team and he was forced out.

Maybe deservedly so but is Dan Snyder still the owner of the commanders?? Oh maybe his wife is lol. Something stinks here and if anyone thinks Goodell hasn’t been trying to force Davis out for years I’d question how smart they are. It’s just plain wrong, imagine if the owner of your favorite team was being strong armed to lose their team by Rodger Goodell. I hope Davis sues the living bleep out of them

  30. 5 billion dollar franchise owned by a guy with a 5 dollar haircut. Nothing to see here

  31. The Mack trade was one of the best things Gruden did. But don’t confuse Gruden the coach and Gruden the GM.

He has always been awful with college scouting.
