Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones knows he’s taking on a tough quarterback to start the season.

Asked by Joy Taylor who the biggest obstacle is to the Raiders among Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, Jones said the only one he’s focused on now is Herbert, because the Raiders face the Chargers in Week One.

“The biggest obstacle? That’s a great question, but I will still give you a media answer: I’m going to say Justin Herbert, because it’s our first game. So that’s going to be our biggest obstacle, attacking Week One,” Jones said.

Jones said his only experience playing against Herbert was in the Pro Bowl, but even in that exhibition he became impressed with Herbert’s ability to place the ball, throwing one pass in just the right place so that Jones couldn’t touch it and his receiver caught it for a touchdown.

“He threw it there on purpose, thinking, this is away from the defender, and it’s a touchdown,” Jones said. “For a guy to be that young and be a precise passer like that, it’s dangerous. I’m a fan. Hopefully I can get after him too at the same time.”

Jones knows there are three quarterbacks in the AFC West he’ll have to get after. But he’s not looking past the first one.

  1. I wouldn’t worry much about Chandler Jones, there’s a reason AZ wouldn’t resign him to another mega deal. He showed last year he had lost a step and he’s only got older since then now 32.5 years old. Half of his sacks came in ONE single game last season, the first one of the year. Markus Golden was much more consistently effective than Jones was last year. Chargers have a good offensive line, I don’t see Jones doing much in that game or being better than mediocre at best this next season.

  2. Jones will disappear as always late in the season and in games vs the better competition.

Run all day long to the weak side. Ball game.

  3. The bigger challenge will be for Carr verse the Chargers front seven. The Raiders will get rocked in this game. Last place finish for the desert dumpster fire Raiders begins with this game.

  4. @touchback6 wow the one Charger fan in the US. I remember big mouth Bosa got his feelings hurt the last game of the season. That’s the only thing he hurt all day. See you week1

  5. The Raiders are going top rekt this season, they had no picks in the draft and still have no QB. Their defense is not good enough to compete in this division nor the playoffs.

  6. @ cards cry baby fans

Jones still had more pressure’s and QB hits, while being the one teams will double. Nice try acting like Golden was heads and shoulders better. This ain’t bad mouthing Golden either. He’s a good player.

  7. 24-10 Chargers win this game handily and set the tone for their competitiveness to win the division against the Chiefs.

Raiders take a huge step back this season, time to start considering moving back to Oakland and rebuilding immediately. Relocating to Vegas was the worst NFL franchise organizational move in the history of the league.

Typical chargless mentality. Last made playoffs when? How did last season end?

    Oh wait.

  9. This will be an easy win for the Chargers, the Raiders are going to get smacked in the mouth.

    Chiefs 14-3
    Chargers 12-5
    Broncos 10-7
    Raiders 5-12
