Melvin Gordon expects Broncos run game to be a lot better in 2022

Running back Melvin Gordon returned to the Broncos this offseason, but it is shaping up to be a much different offense than the one he played in last year.

The acquisition of quarterback Russell Wilson has led to thoughts of a much improved passing game in Denver, but Gordon doesn’t think that will be the only place where the Broncos will be better this season. With 2021 second-rounder Javonte Williams back after a strong rookie year and the Broncos adding Mike Boone as a free agent to flesh out the running back room, Gordon’s predicting big things for the ground game.

“We’re gonna go crazy, man,” Gordon said. “We gotta go crazy. The young bull got so much talent, and we push each other every day in practice. We even got Boone, who’s a good player, too, that’s going to help push us. I’m expecting the run game to be a lot better than it was last year for sure.”

New head coach Nathaniel Hackett came to Denver after serving as the Packers offensive coordinator and his arrival is another reason people are looking for a leap forward on the offensive side of the ball this season. If that comes to fruition, the Broncos’ chances of returning to the postseason should look a lot better.

  1. Stacked AFC West, I have them finishing 3rd or 4th. Still haven’t caught up to the Chiefs, maybe passes LV or LA, but probably not both

Nah, Chiefs are taking a big step back this year. Their “defense” got thoroughly exposed by both the Bills and Bengals. Losing Tyreek makes Mahomes a 1 trick pony. They had a good run but the AFC west will be a dogfight

  3. I won’t count on it. Russell want to running around with the ball or deep pass. he said BLAH BLAH LOOK AT ME BLAH BLAH!!

  4. Gordon is right about the Broncos running game, but what they needed last season was a QB to compete, they have one now. Health is what will determine the AFC West, the team that can stay the healthiest, wins it

  5. So Melvin has a ‘plan’ to eliminate his fumbling? < 1 per game might benefit Denver though I’ll put my bets on a different team.

  6. The Broncos might be .500 or a little better, but they will still battle the Raiders for the basement of the AFC West. Gordon wishes he was still a Charger.

  7. I’m pretty sure you never hear anyone say “you know we are gonna be worse this year we have really taken a step back” “I gained a bunch of weight and might run a 6 second 40 but I’m still getting paid!”….maybe Eddie lacy said that but nobody else…..

  8. Melvin is right. The run game will be better this year if for no other reason than who is lining up behind center. Teddy’s arm doesn’t exactly scare any defense so it was standard practice to stack the box.

  9. It’s a QB league and the Broncos finally have a QB. Throw early and often. Then keep throwing. When the defense is expecting a throw, run the ball. Don’t wait until 3rd and long and then try to throw. That’s what happened in Seattle the last couple seasons. They acted like pass was a bad word. Keep the defense on their heels, not their toes.

  10. Sounds good, Melvin.

This guy has spent his whole career thinking he’s better than he is over in the corner just screaming out for attention.

    What a loser.
