Brett Favre: Davante Adams is going to miss Aaron Rodgers

Davante Adams is going to miss Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is going to miss Davante Adams.

The only question is: Which player misses the other the most?

Adams caught 238 passes for 2,927 yards and 29 touchdowns the past two seasons in earning back-to-back All-Pro honors. That’s an average of eight catches for 98 yards and a touchdown per game. Rodgers won MVP honors both of those seasons.

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre expects Adams’ numbers to go down this season without Rodgers as his quarterback.

“No disrespect to Davante at all — zero disrespect. I do think that Davante will make Derek Carr better and, in time, they will be a dynamic duo. Now, will it be the duo that Aaron and Davante had? Time will tell,” Favre told TMZ Sports. “I think Derek Carr is a very good quarterback, but he’s not in Aaron’s league yet. He may never be, and that’s no disrespect either, but I do think that Davante owes a great deal of gratitude to Aaron and the Packers drafting him.

“That’s not to say he’s not a great player because he is a tremendous player and we’ll see that with Las Vegas. But it’s just hard to shift gears, especially from a player as prolific as Aaron Rodgers. I’d be shocked if he had the same year (this year) he’s had. That’s not to say he can’t do it, but I would be shocked.”

In answering the other side of the question, Favre expects Rodgers to do just fine without Adams. The Packers, who also lost Marquez Valdes-Scantling, signed Sammy Watkins in free agency and drafted Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure.

“They’ll be OK,” Favre said. “It’s hard to replace a great player like Davante Adams. It’s hard to replace Aaron Rodgers. You don’t replace those players. You plug someone and hope that the others take up the slack until that person finds their own way. Aaron’s too good. Much like Tom Brady has gone into every season and manage to systematically tear teams apart with whoever. It doesn’t matter. And that will be the case with Aaron.”

As Favre said, time will tell how much Rodgers misses Adams and how much Adams misses Rodgers. But Carr isn’t Rodgers, and none of the receivers the Packers brought in are Adams.

This cracks me up every time I read it

  2. In 2022, Farve could still suit up and be a top 20 QB in the current league.

  3. “We think Adams is going to miss Rodgers, more.”
-Greg Jennings, Javon Walker, James Jones.

  4. Of course he is and his stats will also reflect that. Adams needed Rodgers maybe even more than Rodgers needed Adams. He wanted to go to Las Vegas and play with his buddy and got paid .. he will find out it isn’t all roses out there soon enough.

  5. What will challenge Davante most is playing in the best division in the NFL instead of the worst. Rodgers’ success won’t be tied to Adams there or not, but rather he’s all in or just playing for money and fame.

  6. There was a non verbal connection between Adams and Rodgers. When they lined up and saw certain defensive schemes these 2 knew exactly what the other was thinking. And all Aaron had to do was give Davante a signal and it was on.

  7. It’s not only the QB downgrade either. In Green Bay the rest of pass catchers were terrible. Now he has to compete for targets with Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow. He will still be a great receiver with Derek Carr but I agree with Brett that he won’t ever beat those amazing statistical seasons he had with the Packers.

  8. Classic talking in circles. Brett doesn’t know. We don’t know. No-one knows. Both players at the top of their game. The season will tell.

  9. Rodgers won’t miss Adams. Rodgers will make a star out of whoever wears a Packers uniform. That’s just the nature of NFL football. The super elite all time great QBs don’t rely on anyone but themselves. That’s why they’re the best of the best.

  10. Am I the only one that thinks Aaron Rodgers is overrated?

Zero TDs in the NFC championship game.. for a guy that is supposedly an all time great.. he has less rings than Eli.

  11. ‘they will be a dynamic duo’…

Because they didn’t play well together in College and haven’t pursued joining up again for years. Yeah, it’s going to take them a while to connect.

  12. Really it boiled down to Carr vs Love… I guess adams had seen enough wounded ducks to know it was time to get out of dodge…

  13. Packers are 7-0 without Davante Adams in the Matt LaFleur era. Remember, the goal of an offense is to score points. Not to pad the stats of a single receiver. It always seemed like whenever Davante would have a huge fantasy-football stud type game, the Packers would only score about 24 points. Whenever Davante was out of the game or his role limited, the Packers would top 30+ points with ease. Remember, Aaron Rodgers won his SB and first 2 MVP’s throwing to a bunch of 2nd-tier and 3rd-tier receivers, which made him distribute the ball more evenly and focus on accuracy and reads. Over the last several years, Aaron just can’t help himself as he clues in on Davante wayyy too much, to the detriment of spreading the ball around. Now that our WR corps is more like it was in the early 2010’s, I think Aaron gets back to making quick reads, getting the ball out of his hands faster, and being less of a one-dimensional offense [aka, throw it to Davante every other passing play]. Love Davante as a player, but same thing happened with Favre after Sterling Sharpe retired – Favre distributed the ball better and we became a better overall team.

  14. As of today, post-Adams, the Packers are ranked No.4 in the NFL for SuperBowl win probability. The Vikings are No.20.

    See the difference?

  15. Packers were 7-0 without Adams.

Take a look at the opponents, injuries for teams they played.

  16. I don’t think Adams will have as big of a year but it’s mainly because the Raiders also have Waller and Renfrow. In Green Bay the last few seasons it was clear Rodgers didn’t have much faith in his other receivers and would often force the ball to Adams. Because Rodgers is one of the greatest passers of all time he could still complete most of those passes. But if defenses are doubling Adams, Carr is going to go to Waller, Renfrow and others. Right now the Raiders 4th and 5th options are probably as good as anyone on the Packers.

  17. Rodgers many times had other recievers that were often wide open and ignored them in favor of a double teamed Adams.if the Packers other recievers rarely got targeted how could they have proved themselves over a full season. Hopefully Rodgers will now use his full arsenal of recievers.

  18. Farve is only part right. Roger’s is a great qb, but Adam’s is a great wr. Adam’s will be great with Carr as well. Car turned Walker into a top tight end. Amari Copper was a top wr with Carr fue a while s well. Adam’s will be fine.

    Why don’t you? We’ll wait.

  20. Out of all the really wild moves or transactions this season, this one really caught me off guard. Wilson I could see, he’s getting older, Hill was hard to believe, but – why not. But the Pack doing this blew me away.

The Packers had to make a choice,….. Rodgers or Adams. They couldn’t pay a QB $40+ Mil and the #1 WR $25 Mil. Something had to give.
It’s easier to replace the WR than the QB and still have a shot to win a Super Bowl.

  22. Adams carr already had a better connection then arron Rogers!!
And Adams and Carr know this..

  23. Look at how many 1000 yard receivers DC4 has created over the years. Check the stats

  24. Everything Lord Favre said was pretty spot on – for a change. You don’t need a high school diploma from Sheboygan to realize both will be at least a little worse off without the other.

We’ll see just how funny it is Week 1.
Hope you keep your sense of humor.
Though I suspect you may not. 😉

  26. Seeing that Rodgers only trusted Adams in clutch situations, Rodgers will become pedestrian. He will go back to throwing the ball OB or in the dirt. We know he won’t throw into a tight window, afraid to throw an interception. That would hurt HIS stats. GB screwed the pooch the last ten years, not giving Rodgers WRs. Detroit will sweep the pack this year. Take it to the bank, book it! 😂

  27. lol, what a stupid trade for the Raiders. Great move by the Pack.

… 2011, 6 of those guys were on the same team. Couldn’t even get them on the field together!

The Packers problem since 2010 has been defense. Period.

  29. It doesn’t matter who is catching the ball. Get open and keep your head on a swivel. Rodgers is better than most at spreading the ball around and creating stars. I think he set the team record with twelve different receivers in one game. Not too shabby. Besides, the running game is solid, the RB’s can catch out of the backfield, and I expect the TE is going to play a huge role this year. No worries.

  30. Love Davante as a player, but same thing happened with Favre after Sterling Sharpe retired – Favre distributed the ball better and we became a better overall team.

If Sharpe was on the team 1995-1998 how many rings does that team have?

He was as good as any WR I’ve ever seen. Even Rice, at the absolute peak of his game.

  31. The Packers had to make a choice,….. Rodgers or Adams. They couldn’t pay a QB $40+ Mil and the #1 WR $25 Mil. Something had to give.

    Adams wanted out.

He said the Packers offered him more than the Raiders.

  32. therealraider says: Am I the only one that thinks Aaron Rodgers is overrated? Zero TDs in the NFC championship game.. for a guy that is supposedly an all time great.. he has less rings than Eli.
–As a Packer fan, I must acknowledge, this is factually correct, but it’s also missing lots of context. Eli Manning also has more SB rings than Drew Brees, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, Dan Fouts and Brett Favre. That does not make him a better QB. Jim Plunkett also has two SB rings. Statistically and in terms of accomplishments Aaron Rodgers is easily Top 10 all time, and arguably, Top 3. He has some insane accomplishments in terms of consistency, TD/INT ratio, passer rating etc. As a Packers fan however I must admit, his playoff record is well below his career performance. He’s 1-4 in NFC title games, and although you can blame weaker defenses or other questionable surrounding talent, at some point you want the greats to put their team on their backs to win it all. Rodgers has done that once, and on that team they had an exceptional defense. His HOF performance standard has not been seen often in the playoffs.

Nelson was 33 when he left, and not even close to the player he was after the knee injury

Jennings had 2 solid seasons with Ponder and Bridgewater throwing to him.. and lets not forget the Packers wanted to keep him. The Vikes offered him more money.

.. Adams will not be average, or below.

He was the highest rated passer in post-season history the first half of his career.

He is 1 of only 7 QBs with a post-season rating over 100.

He has averaged 28 points/game in the Playoffs, pretty much the same as Tom Brady.

The defense gave them no chance to win against Atlanta and San Francisco (2016 & 2019) Epic thrashings.

Seattle in 2014 was arguably the worst Playoff meltdown in NFL history. 12-point lead with 3:52 to go.
