Former Commanders safety Deshazor Everett pleaded guilty to reckless driving Tuesday, Peter Hailey of reports. Everett was at the wheel in a December 2021 car wreck that caused the death of Olivia Peters.

Everett originally faced an involuntary manslaughter charge after an investigation by the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office found he was driving more than double the posted speed limit of 45 mph. That charge was reduced to reckless driving Tuesday.

Everett, 30, is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 8, his attorney, Kaveh Noorishad, told Hailey. Reckless driving is a misdemeanor in Virginia and carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,500.

Everett was seriously injured, and Peters was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the vehicle Everett was driving hit several trees and rolled over.

Washington cut him in March after seven seasons with the team.

  1. Joe Lunchbox would still be facing an involuntary manslaughter charge. One set of laws for the rich and another for me and you.

  2. Joe Lunchbox would get the very same deal as Everett if he hired a competent attorney and had a clean record.
Everett has made some decent money playing football, but he’s going to have to find a job when he’s done playing.
    He’s not uber-wealthy.

  3. Sometimes the references to speed take into account what the typical rate of speed is in that spot. Lots of places I drive virtually all the vehicles in the flow of traffic are going significantly faster than posted speed limits. Not double and not Ruggs mph though.

  4. I prefer Joe “Soft Sided Coleman European Style Mid-Day Carryall”, thx.

  5. 90+ mph in a 45 mph zone, kill somebody, and get a slap on the wrist. Unbelievable.

  6. Time for politicians to have late night laws passed under our noses. We need red flag driving laws passed. There’s no reason for a car to have the ability to go 90 mph. Cars should be allowed to only go 35 mph max. Reduce horsepower on all vehicles. Anyone who has ever received a speeding ticket, traffic violation, or accident must hand over their driving license and turn their keys in to authorities. This is about safety people! How many lives need to be lost in traffic accidents before enough is enough?

  7. Driving 90MP in a 45 MPH zone?
That alone should be mandatory jail time.
To cause a death while doing so should be more than a year.
With “time off for good behaviour” how long will he spend in jail?
